I wondered if Nightveil Specter was reprsentative of a cycle; that HHH was pretty distinctive cost. I guess it will be a looser than I expected cycle with the other hybrid rares being creatures with HHH in their casting costs.
Good catch. I hope the Boros card in this presumed Hybrid cycle is a Standard-worthy three-drop.
I do not see why this does not have haste tacked on for that mana cost. Nice creature, but 1 cc less or some form of evasion or haste would have brought it up to more competitive levels
This would have been a 4/4 or higher with haste. That would have been too good.
The "right" thing for this card would have been as a 2/2 for 1:symrg::symrg: It would have been instantly constructed playable.
I guess so although she is seeing zero play right. Right now she is basically a 4 mana flash creature. No one is abusing her to flash in Thrags/Huntmasters. =x

To the people that say that a card needs to be a higher rarity because of Limited... I hate you guys so much. I present to you with this.
I can't see this not seeing constructed play. It's Human, pumps it's self since it gets at least 1 counter the turn it attacks and is in the same colours as wolf run.

"Right" emphasizing how bad of an idea giving an effect that strong to a 3 drop would be, especially with an unrestrictive 1:symrg::symrg: in the cost. When you're a 4 drop you need something to make you close enough to a finisher to be relevant in aggro/midrange, but a 3 drop just has to add to the offense. Even by itself it swings for 3 and with anything else it completely takes over in size. Imagine a loxodon smiter that just needed an extra turn to get BIGGER.
IDK maybe I'm overreacting, but I think this would be too good as a 3 drop, unless it was:symrg::symrg::symrg:

You'd probably be wrong, then. Consider that you're likely dealing the same damage output on T5 as you already did with Hellrider on T4.
Except Hellrider isn't a Human and is easier to kill. This chick becomes a lot harder to deal with after the first attack.
There are human 4-drops, namely Instigator Gang, that are better than this that don't see play. Being human doesn't mean a whole lot when the card is nothing short of mediocre.
As pointed out by luminum can in the Commander thread... this is a crappier version of Fangren Firstborn. Pretty lazy design... ugh I hate it even more now. At least fangren gets bigger along with his boys. Selfish!

You have to remember the discard clause on Loxodon Smiter. And that it is uncounterable. And that it is an amazing blocker without attacking. And it doesn't die to searing spear.
I don't think that as a 2/2 for 1:symgr::symgr: this would have automatically been better than Smiter. In human aggro, however, this would have been better than smiter, and the 3 drop spot is where that deck needs to improve. Make it cost 1RG then. The reveal of this makes me a sad panda.
LP, I'm checking your article out as well. Behind all of your swag is the brain of one of the most intelligent Magic players I've ever known. I guess that's one more thing for you to add to the wall of ego that is your Sally sig.
I can go with that. LK, you are the Mace Windu of red mages...cool, tempered logic in deliberation, but capable of just flat kicking tail when the situation warrants it.

Oh I agree that it has it's weaknesses compared to smiter, especially the vulnerability to removal and discard, but without a more restrictive casting cost it just seems much better in aggro decks in particular. At 1RG I'd have no complaints.
I like it. It can get really brutal really quickly. On a side note i love the art for it and with this and the Emissary, i am really pumped for the Gruul Hybrid cards. Both so far are really cool and they look amazing art wise.

Wield your heart, and the world will tremble!!!-Doran, the Siege Tower BWG
The effect could prove so discombobulating to combo players, in particularly, they may fizzle and run away screaming. "From that day the Curse of the Plateau was upon me, and I found every hand I ever pull from a combo deck is a mulligan."

I think as a 3-drop this would have been good in Naya Aggro, if it survived more than two turns. It'd be far from broken though.
Someone please explain to me why, with those mechanics, it's not Boros. Yes, the art and name fit Gruul but mechanically if you gave me just the card text and nothing else and made a poll (before it was spoiled) I can't imagine Boros not being the winner in a landslide.
Feels more "We all attack as one!" like Boros, not "We Eat!" like Gruul.
I once farted during the final match for prizes at an FNM. It was a tense moment, everything was quiet, control vs control, I was about to mana leak, thought about it.. and farted. Then mana leaked.
The art in this set being wasted on boring or crippled card designs is criminal :/
The card is a house in limited, and outclassed in standard from a variety of angles. Would it have killed them to put trample or haste on this?
With trample it is very good. (still not constructed material though) With haste it is nearly broken. Unless you enjoy getting killed with 6/6 or 7/7 haste creatures for 4? It would almost always be a 5/5 with haste (or better). I think they are trying to get away from that kind of thing. The comparisons to hellrider are fair though.
Think Yeva is still better than this guy too.

I need to see a larger scan and/or the actual thing first -- I can't tell whether or not the perspective works as is.
Chippy's definitely a hit-or-miss artist (and Trostani was a miss IMO).

I'd rather play Instigator Gang for sure.

Re: People misusing the term Vanilla to describe a flying, unleash (sometimes trample) critter.
If this thing had haste, it would still be worse on a first attack than Hellrider.
I don't understand the point of this card.
