I think he based that assumption on the MTGCommander preview article that the Arcana linked to. It spoiled The Mimeoplasm. It doesn't give certainty about the other four, but I think that's why he made that assumption.
EDIT: nath'd
It does outright state we are getting some though, it heavily implies that it'll be the rest of that..cycle.
Well if Mimeo is in there there is a good chance others will be as well.
What I don't like is that sometimes the alternative commander for a deck is as popular as the "main" one.
Kalia is certainly more popular than Tariel.
But is Mimeoplasm more popular than Damia? Riku more than Animar? Ghave than Karador? Perhaps but not by much and it leaves those of us who built around the others feeling left out.
Personally I'd rather the set not "waste" 5 slots on foiled commanders from the commander precons since there are many old and valuable EDH staples I'd rather see take those slots (eg. Divining Top, Strip Mine, Coalition Relic, etc...). And these sets would have the opportunity to bring Red and White up to power since those colors rely far more on older more expensive cards to make up for the weaknesses of those colors (like land tax for white; sneak attack, wheel of fortune, etc...).
Do not even count that oversized card bull **** in the number of cards included.
Why not? Don't speak for others here; myself, which Commanders are in oversize is going to be a key part of if I want to spend money on this. Just the Azuza alone is a point in its favor for me.
If I had to take a guess at what generals would be foiled, I'd say Kaalia, Tariel, Ghave, Mimeo and maybe Vish Kal.
This would not make sense at all because there's no balance. If they reprint any three colour wedge commanders then they'll choose one for every kind.
If they do I'd sign in for Kaalia, Karador, Mimeoplasm, Riku and Zedruu.
May it's me and I did get the information wrong... I thought someone said that they're making oversized cards, premium foil cards, some cards first time in foil ever and some new art. In comparison with your deckbuilder's toolkit aumption I'd go more along with a similarity to the From The vault Series.
I could imagine stuff like:
5 oversized foil cards
15 foil cards
spin down counter
and sleeves (someone mentioned sleeves...)
MRSP 45$
Sorry had to quote myself... Where are all the people that complained about my 45$ MRSP ?!! hahahaha... 75$ Is ok when the product meet's satisfaction.
This would not make sense at all because there's no balance. If they reprint any three colour wedge commanders then they'll choose one for every kind.
If they do I'd sign in for Kaalia, Karador, Mimeoplasm, Riku and Zedruu.
That might hold up in a larger set, but we're talking about just 18 cards. Spending almost a third of their card slots out of 18 cards on a single cycle of cards from just a year ago would be just as bad as what they did with FTV: Legends. The fact that some of them aren't as popular as others (and that wedges in general tend to be not as popular as arcs or pairs) makes it even more unlikely that they'll do it.
Remember, this is only 18 cards. It doesn't have to be thoroughly color-balanced.
It's a given that Kaalia, Karador/Ghave, The Mimeoplasm, and Riku are going to be in here.
Riku, The Mimeoplasm, and Kaalia are the most popular generals that came out of the Commander intro product set. Both Riku and The Mimeoplasm were covered and talked about with Ken Nagle, a designer for the Commander product, on a Channel Fireball Magic TV episode. He himself said that WoTC has done research on which commanders were the most popular from that set, and on top of that, Riku and The Mimeoplasm were the two most popular generals from that set amongst WOTC employees.
Kaalia is a given, simply for the fact that she retained much of her presale/initial release value for the longest time because so many players bought her as a single -- way surpassing the demand for other Commander generals as singles. She's immensely popular.
I'm not quite sure if Karador or Ghave is the more popular general. Frankly, I think Zedruu and Ruhan of the Fomori failed to attract that much of a significant fanbase to warrant a foil version. I don't think WoTC has to foil out a general amongst each wedge, despite common sense making it appear to be the most logical decision. While there is a certain demographic that likes either of these generals, it's relative small of a % compared to the other generals.
I think the oversized foil generals is a complete waste of time. I've never seen anyone use those aside from the initial Commander product release party or whatever you want to call it. Sure, they are collectible, but not practical in any way. I'd rather have them include regular sized foil Azusa, etc. A 28 regular-sized, foil product set would be much better then this 18/10 split they got going on.
I already think it's worth it,t hough, with the foil Command Tower, Sylvan Library, The Mimeoplasm, life counter, +/- counters, and 120 sleeves. Here's to hoping there's more playables though. It would be awesome to have a foil Sensei's Divining Top in there, along with a full other "staples"/"fun cards that are played a ton in the format" like Bribery, Scroll Rack, etc.
Do not even count that oversized card bull **** in the number of cards included.
Exactly. In my meta proxy are not allowed, and oversized cards require a normal sized version of the card or a proxy to actually use it as a commander. So oversized cards are completely useless to me.
I won't buy it - the way WotC sells stuff to the UK it'll have an RRP of about £65-70 (c. $100, depending on exchange rates.)
In Russia we have the same situation, but 75 dollars in our LGS will be 90-95-100 dollars because of shipping and monopoly of our distributor. So, if they want me to buy it, there MUST be a lot of good cards for such an expensive price.
P.S. But I really love those counters and I'll buy them in the internet.
Those other 15 cards better be super staples and worth the cost.. and that artwork looks like an alternate art Command Tower..
I figure they'll have foils for all of the Commander product Commanders as well as a few staple cards that are used from each color, as well as of course Command Tower.
I don't understand why people are complaining - this is Wizard's chance to reprint some real EDH staples whose prices have become ridiculous. People want their Maze of Ith(s) but then when Wizards creates a product where it is actually possible to reprint those cards, people complain about the MSRP. I mean, it will suck if they don't make it worth the cost, but it's unreasonable for people to both want awesome cards and for the thing to cost $25.

Some people mention why they do. Some not. Others do just because they can I'm not complaining for example, but I'm definitely not happy with the product so far. That means, if there are no other good reprints are showing up I don't buy it and try to buy singles from it. If there are I'll buy product multiple times... It's really so easy
I think this product feels like a massive fail given the comments in this thread. Whether you hate foils, oversized cards, random little pieces of plastic, only getting 18 cards or the ridonkolous price tag - there doesn't seem to be much love out there for a product lots had high hopes of. I guess the life counter is sweet!?!
Oh well.....as others have pointed out guess it means more money towards RTR.
I'd not complain before you did see everything spoiled. You're probably one of the first one in line early in the morning when it get's released if they put just one of your favourite cards in foil in... (normal size of course).

I find this eminently reasonable - merely a bit frustrated that people are complaining about the MSRP with the knowledge that a) there will probably be good stuff in here to make it worth it and b) the cards haven't been spoiled yet, so we don't know whether it's worth it. I completely understand why people are upset that they feel oversized cards/etc. are making up part of the product's value, but again - it's hard to tell whether Wizards considers those things to be a significant factor in the final price or rather just "extras".
When I heard "Commander's Arsenal", I thought this product would be more like the Deckbuilder's toolkit. So you would get like 100-150 cards, singletons, which go into various decks and which get you started on building any commander deck you want. Most of them Uncommons. Some rares like Solemn, Triskelion, Birds, Coalition Relic, Primetime, etc. Staple cards really.
That is exactly what I thought as well. Then I saw the price tag of $75 and the thought recurred. Then I saw a bunch of junk I don't really care about at all and thought "18 foils? That's it? :/".
It may be early but due to the fact that I really don't care for foils it will take a lot to make me buy this product. Then again, this is more aimed at the guys who like to "pimp" out their decks, and that isn't me.
Also agree that sleeves you cannot buy again sounds like a very bad idea.
Well, considering how high the MSRP is, it could have a lot of the things people have been clammoring for.

I really doubt the oversized foils get normal sized cards, though. Yes, it happened with the decks, but those cards didn't exist yet.
but it's unreasonable for people to both want awesome cards and for the thing to cost $25.
Why is it unreasonable? It costs Wizards no more to print that Maze of Ith that it does to print *random junk common*. Just because Maze of Ith is $40 on the secondary market doesn't mean that Wizards has to tack an extra $40 onto any product they're selling that contains one. If I wanted to pay a premium on a product just because it has expensive staples, I would have just bought said staples already.
It's really lame that Wizards seems hellbent on constantly catering to either brand new players (aka we can't put anything good in this deck because it's too complicated/we don't want advanced players to buy it) or collectors/resellers/scalpers (aka here's a really expensive foil product set that is extremely limited in quantity that you hoard and then resell for a big profit).
We need more products that are for your average Magic player. Or products like the Commander precons, which were great for everyone. The decks themselves weren't bad at all for a preconstructed product. They had needed staples for people who were new to the format, they had value, they had new cards for people who were already veterans of the format, they had a good retail price for what you got, they were easy to customize...
Same with the new Planechase decks. Those were always a great example of an all-around good Magic product that appeals to everyone. I don't know why Wizards insists on restricting themselves to one tiny portion of their market audience when they could easily make this something that new, casual and hardcore EDH players alike would buy.
That is three out of 18, all of which are useful... I am slowly warming up to the idea of it being only 18 cards.
The Asuza, lost but seekign is one of the 10 new oversize foil versions of existing generals. I'm willing to bet that the oversize generals are not duplicated as playble versions in the box set.
I may be wrong, but I didn't think there were that many people who really "liked" the oversized generals. You can't play them, you still need a normal sized version, essentially they serve no purpose within the game. It's like an artist print of a powerful card -- great, you got one. but you can't use it for anything.

Not foiled generals.
Judging on channelfireballs top 8 Commander list. (which I think is a good idea of what to expect)
I think Hoard of Nation's will be there or is it only previously non foiled commanders?
