If the store owner says that I can't trade in the premises, I'll just go outside. If he says that I can't trade within 10m of his premises, I'll go to 11 meters. If he says that he doesn't want to see me trading, I will put a basket over his head and continue trading.
Yes, he's a local legend. He's only known to take his clothes off before he goes into the Ladies' Lockerroom. Nobody knows what he does in there because he's invisible, but it's almost certainly tons of masturbating.
no i didn't actually pay for it in advance although, i would have if they asked. I actually asked them if I could for the exact reason stated above, to get a receipt.
I really really wanted it too. But 225 is hard to come up with....
I'm just really upset because I'm a regular. I go to the store whenever I can. And recently I brought a lot including two boxes of RtR.
i really want the diao chan, if someone gets this and does want that card please pm me. I have plenty to trade.
if not... i may still get this...
That really sucks dude. It's pretty asinine of a store to pull that crap. If a store lets you preorder, even without money, it's pretty dicklike of them to pull that crap, even if it is technically legal. I work at my LGS and we have a policy of always MSRP, if not lower than that if we need to. Our FTV's were 35, and our Arsenal's were 75.

Selling as MSRP is simply stupid if you can easily without any problem sell for x3 the price or even more.
It makes not much sence, unless you can count the trusting customer that they will invest even more money back into your store.

Don't undersestimate what you refer to as the "trusting customer". There are two stores in my town, one has for the last 3 years sold FTV's for $35, the other for $75. Guess which one my friends and I go to?
The same store that sells for MSRP is doing a random drawing for his 5 Arsenal's, winners get the chance to buy at MSRP. The other store is charging...well I don't know what they are charging beacause I've been in there once in the last year whereas I'm at the "MSRP store" nearly once a week.
My friends and I split a case of RTR from the "MSRP store" for $570 ($95/box), and we'll be doing the same for Gatecrash, so he knows that by keeping a happly client base it pays off.

Not at all stupid. It's stupid to neither sell at MSRP or sell over MSRP, but rather it depends on specific situations at specific stores. Newer small stores should absolutely sell at MSRP to build a solid player base in their own store. Struggling stores should absoultely sell at MSRP to hold on to loyal customers. Larger stores with larger player bases can get away with higher than MSRP because they can afford the loss of a few players, but a lot of smaller stores cannot. It's much better to have one player continue to buy 1 or 2 boxes of every set than earn a little more money on this specific product if you cannot afford to lose that player.
It's a good thing people that say certain business decisions are stupid don't own their own businesses, they probably wouldn't stay in business long without thinking through the consequences of all possible outcomes.
Why don't the stores that want "loyalty" just bundle the Arsenal with a box of RTR? So you get it for $75, if you buy a box from them (and win the random drawing or whatever). Something like that.

Not a bad idea. I suppose it's up to each individual store owner. As I mentioned above my preferred LGS is doing a random drawing for the right to purchase at MSRP. Before he decided on the random free drawing we discussed several options, a raffle where you could purchase as many tickets as you want, a raffle where the ticket price was higher but you could only purchase 1 ticket, an EDH tourney with no entry fee and the right to purchase at MSRP, an EDH tourney with a fee and winners got their set for free, etc.
In the end he just decided to do what was easiest, a random free drawing this Saturday followed by a free casual EDH tourney with tournament results unrelated to who get the Arsenal's. He is allowing people from the FNM the night before to put in their name, as well as those that show up on Saturday.
EDH is not particularly popular in our community outside of a dozen players (whereas our FNM's and releases always get maximum store occupancy which is 40 players), and based on the player base and $75 price tag I'm guessing that no more than 20-25 people will enter the raffle, and I'd say anywhere from 1/3 to 1/2 of those would only be buying to flip the sets.
I was the first person to bring the product to the storeowners attention and well before he decided on his method of distributing them I offered him $125 for one, but he wanted to give everyone an equal chance. I was disappointed but can respect his decision. Still, I'll be at the shop with $300 in my pocket, willing to buy any off winners for up to $150 should they want to quickly double their money.
160 is the price SCG posted up that they're buying them for. Our LGS has taken the stance on products like FTV that he has to sell them for the SCG buy price else people will just buy it and flip it to SCG immediately. Jerks.
For CA, my LGS decided he's not selling any of them - and given I was first in line, I'm a little miffed, but I totally understand his position.
He's doing a 'premium standard' tournament every Friday for the next 4 weeks and with a CA as the prize. I think he did the best he could with the corner WotC painted him into. He said he talked to the rep and they are now admitting the backlash from this has them reconsidering never releasing something this limited again. (Maro's twitter would appear to back this statement up as well)
Wow, those prices seem... ... reasonable? Command Tower seems like a deal. Scroll Rack is a bit on the high side. Retainers is high, but that kinda gets a pass for being so rare.
Obv you'd want the whole thing for $75... but if you just want one or two this seems not hateful.

the summary is that my store said they would reserve one for me (twice) but did not.
after i complained, the store said they would break up a box and give me the diao chan for free.
I can't really complain too much since the diao chan was only one i really wanted.
but thanks so much for everyone's help. i responded to the pms.
they also gave me the option of buying the contents at 160 which is scg buylist price. originally they said 75 but then balked and told me 225.. 160 is sort of tempting, but since i only really wanted the diao chan, i think i'll just take it.
I am slightly displeased by the high prices of the cards as singles (especially Rhystic Study, the card from this set that I am most eager to obtain), but I suppose that that is understandable, due to the limited print run of this set. However, I absolutely cannot pay $20.00 for a foil Command Tower, regardless of how greatly I desire to have such a card; that is simply too high a price for a card whose previous printing is being sold for less than $5.00 by most vendors.
Will any online stores apart from StarCityGames be selling cards from this set as singles? I do not have an account with SCG at this present time (my preferred vendor is currently TrollandToad.com), and I am not certain if it is worth the time and effort of creating an account there to simply purchase one card. Does anyone else have advice to offer about that?

All online vendors will eventually sell singles from this set (more than likely) just due to circulation. Mostly however it is going to depend on how quickly the singles get sold and who ends up buying them. With SCG buying the opened boxes at 160$ I would guess that the majority of the stock will be with them...however as time goes on the stock of singles will disperse to the different retailers online. As for right now, your best bet is to just pick what you want off of ebay.
as a side note the most recent printing of command tower is the judge foil and that is about 30-35 right now so 20 for a foil is a good. And foils of many cards that have not previous foil versions are going to just be expensive...just happens.

First off this isn’t your stores fault it is Wizards for limiting it so much. Second I guess you don’t value your store or you would support it and buy the card. The owner/manager is trying to work with you and least you could do is return the favor. You are lucky to have a LGS. Without them MTG would not be what it is today. Support your store or one day they won't be there.

Then they shouldn't presale, if they can't accommodate the amount. 100% wrong, couldn't be more wrong if you literally tried. another note any store that acts like that, isn't a good LGS. They are SLIGHTLY redeeming themselves by offering him something, but even offering to sell it for 160 is a slap in the face. I would demand a refund and never spend a dime in the store again.
a month or so ago i asked the store owner to reserve me a copy. He wasn't even going to order them from his distributor since he didn't know about them and they were "too expensive, I don't think they will sell."
Anyways I call three weeks ago and he says, yup you have one for reserve. I then ask him if I should pay the 75 during FNM that night. He said to pay when it came out.
My recent purchases from this store: two angel of serenity, two boxes of RtR, and two revised tundras. All in the same month. I am a loyal customer, that is the only reason he is offering me the diao chan or the commander set for buylist.
Thanks everyone who was so kind in their pms. I really love that they reprinted diao chan for edh. the card is a lot of fun. for those who haven't tried, i would highly recommend using her as a general (although mono red yuk). In my experience, diao chan is one of the last targets.

Yes, thank you very much for informing us of that.

Regarding Mark Rosewater's Twitter page, if this set proves to be sufficiently popular, which it seems to be, thus far, is there any chance that WotC shall print more copies of it, to increase its availability? I sincerely hope so.
