of course not. but they are aware of the major problems this limited print run is causing, and this is just a mere indication
And what major problem would that be? Not everyone being able to obtain one? Whose problem is that? The way they're releasing this means that just a lucky few will get it.. Rest can just buy non-foil. Doesnt seem like a problem to me..
So, my local store said they talked to there rep, and that it is 2 or 4 units, but each unit is 2 boxes, so the actual numbers are 4 to 16. This is just a word of mouth though. Just thought I would share.
Wow I may actually get one I am 6th on the list for pre-order at my LGS this makes me happy I really like the die and could use the foil generals as I don't own many of them

So, every few days or weeks I check into this thread to see if there are any updates as to the content of the product and I am always surprised at the sense of righteous indignation that exists here.
The issue seems terribly simple but please correct me if I'm wrong.
--Commander is a casual format, giving players the ability to play pet cards, broken interactions illegal elsewhere and to generally deck out decks with cool and/or rare things in an 'eternal' setting.
--This product was a last minute replacement for a lapsing product and DOESN'T TAKE THE PLACE OF ANY OTHERWISE RELEASED PRODUCT.
--It is extremely limited and will have art/foiling that cannot be found anywhere else.
--The product will contain NO NEW CARDS and thus shouldn't create any unfairness with regard to who can afford to get them and who cannot. These cards exist SOLELY as aesthetic updates.
Given these premises, there seems to be exactly one reason for this rage. Some people want them and can't get them. No one needs them. No one will be pushed out of the game for them. People are just mad because they want a nice product they cannot/will not pay for.
So.... what do you guys do when you see a car you want but cannot afford? Clothes? Food? I really don't get it. Part of the richness of this game is that people play and collect for different reasons. Some want foils, some want legacy staples, some just draft and sell the pickings. This product is just one tiny release focused on the people who are interested in expensive rare releases. Why do you begrudge a company for releasing this for those people? It effects you in NO WAY! I keep hearing people talk about a secondary market and all that jazz but none of that even matters. This is a product that isn't taking the place of another needed product. You don't need to buy it to keep up with the format. Seriously, why do you need this product or need to rage about it's existence?
my new lgs informed me that the oversized cards will be included as regular foil cards in the set as part of the 18. Has anyone else heard this, or is he mistaken?
What? Going by the product they are coming out with, this wouldn't be targeted at EDH players at all. It's targetted at ZOMG super collectors who have everything mint, in box and never touch it for fear that it will lose value.
That's quite a big assumption. If I wanted to collect something I'd never touch I'd collect baseball cards. I play with all my crazy expensive foils. Hell, I even did this with my power and some other expensive cards cause I was sick of them just sitting in a binder: http://www.twitpic.com/a2if9l http://www.twitpic.com/a2ifi9

Your LGS has no reason to know or believe such a claim.

I absolutely love the "Tower of Power" you created
They are not random they are likely to be oversized versions of popular commanders. They just simply have no reason to have small versions as well.
Exactly. I mean, there could be no, partial, or complete overlap, but we have no way of knowing one way or the other. And that goes for everyone. When products are announced it's not like dealers can just call up Wizards and pump them for extra information like this. I think logically there will be zero overlap, but we have literally no way to know.

The only cases I can see the same card showing up as a foil and an oversized card would be in the case of a popular commanders never before printed in the new card frame. Possibly some of the popular commanders from Legends such as Dakkon Blackblade or P3K legends.

I'd love to see a foil Dakkon Blackblade in this. Hopefully with the same flavor text and art, though I wouldn't be opposed to new art.
Unfortunately every try hard from Sacramento to Shanghai preaches from the top of their 27 lands + Mana Reflection that Tooth and Nail and Time Stretch are fine to play in the same turn but Armageddon is unfair.
You can't play a commander only in oversized format since it could get shuffled in your library. Having oversized-only cards would be weird as the card would be useless if you don't own the original. Additionally, they would't advertise the product as 18 cards for commanders but 18 + X cards. Why undersell it in the marketing copy? Thus the only logical conslusion is that all oversized cards are duplicates.

It's useless if you have the regular sized too.
The regular sized works just fine and takes up less space. Space is often at a premium in commander games.

Or you could just shuffle in a backwards card.
Having an overlap would be a waste of foils.
Also I would guess that the oversized card are all/mostly legends, and the standar foils are all/mostly staples. (except for the Commander commanders that they're reprinting)
I just called the giantest store in my state and they said they don't expect to get any, and if they do it might be a tourney prize
find a store with a large EDH population, they are much more likely to pick them up because they are much more likely to sell. If the store you called HAS said population, whoever owns it is a moron.
4 x 2 = 8 units for advanced stores if this is true I think.
Nope , already confirmed from Helen and also from calling Wizards that it is 2 Command Arsenal for Core Stores and 4 Command Arsenal for Advanced Stores. It is a shame though
