Since there's not gonna be an uncounterable cycle. i wonder what kind it will be.
A shuffle effect similar to the Zeniths from Scars black would be interesting, but I find that unlikely due to such an effect being so recent. It's very difficult to make a guess to be honest...it makes me honestly either think Wizards will not create any type of replacement cycle (which is why I would be so upset at this news being revealed) or that the new cycle will simply be powerful cards without any bonus effect. Either way, I hope I'm wrong.
Unless it's maybe this. If so, I feel like Loxodon Smiter got the best of both worlds, but hey - that would just be very Wizards to give the creature of the cycle both upsides of said cycles.
they clearly have absolutely no idea how to read text longer than the simple few sentences they are used to.
Read my post before you respond to it, unless you just want to look like an idiot.
I'm sorry that you don't enjoy those things and prefer slinging spells freely like a dim-witted moron, but some of us have cerebellums with functional capacity greater than a shrew's.
I used as examples in the post you so blindly skimmed over.
And lastly - because you clearly missed this point as well - learn how to play against countermagic. The mentality of "well I can just play my spells without worrying about a thing and if they have a counter that is unfun and overpowered" is childish, ignorant, and frankly biased/annoying.
You are bound to suck at Magic forever.
I can assure you that my reading comprehension skills are not in question.
Secondly, learn some manners. People are allowed to disagree with others without being insulting and abusive. I'm letting you know that I've reported you once, not for this posts - because frankly, I don't give a damn what you think about me - but because you've written abusively condescending posts to other users as well.
I'm asking you once nicely: Reel in your vitriol. It is unwanted, unnecessary and unwarranted, not just toward me but toward the other users here. You are not the be all and end all of Magic and your opinions will not always be shared by everyone. Learn to live with it. And learn to respond to others without childishly insulting them.
Not trying to be annoying, but did you READ your own post at the beginning of this page? This is a serious case of pot calling the kettle black...
Sure, I stated my opinions strongly on how counter supporters are wrong, how I believe people who like counters don't like playing Magic due to the nature of what a counter is and I did indicate that I'm glad someone like Lord Void will never be designing for Magic. I'll give you that.
BUT, I didn't call him an "idiot," a "dim-witted moron," someone without a "cerebellums with functional capacity greater than a shrew's," someone who's "childish, ignorant, and frankly biased/annoying," and who'll "suck at Magic forever."
Yes, I was harsh on my criticism of Lord Void's previous post where he throws around mass insults like: "It simply makes me believe such people are terrible at Magic to the point of lacking the mental plasticity to PLAY AROUND CERTAIN CARDS," and "[people] are either too lazy, or stupid," "pathetic," "whiners" and "morons."
There's a difference between being opinionated/confrontational (my post) and being a bully/browbeater (his posts). Yes, I told him that people will disagree with him and that he isn't the be all-end all of Magic... right after a post where I blatantly state a biased opinion, but I know that people are going to disagree with me, and that's fine. I'll still believe they're wrong. But I'm not going to insult and berate them for it. There's a WORLD of difference between my post and his postS.

I never stated I was the "end-all, be-all" of Magic, nor that my opinion was. I wanted to let you KNOW, because apparently you DIDN'T, that it's not impossible, nor difficult to play around countermagic if you're a competent player. If you have a problem with that, then you have no one to blame but yourself for it, and you'll never become a better player without LEARNING.
As for my choice of diction, it is my right to use whatever I speech I desire to get my point across. If you feel offended by it, too bad. I honestly cannot say I feel the slightest bit of remorse for people who boldly claim their opinions of what's "unfun" to be fact, when they are stating what are once again opinions, and poorly formulated, biased ones at that. Nowhere did I state anyone would "suck at Magic forever;" but that's a simple truth if you are unable/unwilling to learn how to play around certain cards, and the only person who can fix that is yourself.
Teaching a new player: "So you see he has 2 untapped blue mana there. That's so he can counter your next spell if he needs to."
New player: "So I shouldn't play my spells if my opponent has a counterspell?"
"No, you shouldn't play your spells even if he doesn't. Sometimes he'll have it and sometimes he won't."
"That doesn't sound very fun, avoiding playing because he MIGHT have a counterspell."

If that's how people deal with counterspells no wonder they hate them. I just try to get the wrong thing countered and or play too many spells for them to keep up with.
Of course I always played black back when I first started and my use of duress in every deck was legendary. Well, became legendary I guess. You want to see some mad players? Between duress and creature destruction black was more hated than blue ever was by most of my friends. MBC fo eva.

1. EDH, from what I've seen, is hardly less of a blue dominant/countermagic light format. (correct me if I'm wrong though; I personally dislike EDH and have limited knowledge about it, but nearly every deck I've seen runs blue and with it, countermagic)
2. Not playing spells won't bait the counters from your opponent's hand. That's terrible gameplay and not how you play around countermagic.

A few of my friends consider Pox to be the most unfun Legacy deck to play against. One of my good buddies will scoop to anyone who plays it, not even due to be unable to play around it; he simply finds it incredibly irritating. It's pretty funny to be honest. I, personally think White is the most annoying and unfun color to play against, but once again hatred of specific colors in Magic is all opinion.
Anyway, this thread is not about learning how to play around countermagic; it's about the fact that we shouldn't have to, but still do because THE UNCOUNTERABLE CYCLE ISN'T COMING BACK. ISOMAD.
*looks at cards rotating out, and post-RTR standard* Oh, nevermind. Looks like playing around countermagic won't be necessary for you Standard players at all, please proceed.
I seriously do hope they print SOME cycle of themed power-rares to make up for the loss of this one though; that, at any rate, would only be just. And they BETTER not all be creatures. I am really looking forward to Dimir's card.
Blue is weaker in multiplayer based EDH because of the 1 for 1 potential of the card.
Cards like Wrath of God and Nevinyral's Disk are far more potent in that format than Counterspell and Force of Will.
People do run counters though this is true but unless we are talking 1v1 EDH they are NOT the centerpiece of the format. Not to mention that a heavy blue mage has a tendency to get ganged up on in that format due to people not wanting their cards countered.

eh, i hope gatecrash gets the opposite of the "can't be countered" cards. Cards that are nuts powerful, but countered for a mere 1.
like reprint demonic tutor this way, hah.
As for the people hating on counters, do you also hate that black can discard ANY card for 1? White can remove ANY creature for 1?
blue has to hit it when it's coming in
black has to hit it when it's in the hand
red and white have to hit it when it's on the field
green, um.. grows.

oh yeah, forgot about that because it was pretty god awful
I think we'll get another cycle of something else in gate.
it's just weird to have a cycle counter one color specifically, outside of can't be discarded (black) I don't see a similar "hate cycle"as I don't think another color has a definite mechanic like that

Actually blue is really good in multiplayer EDH, but because of its excellent card draw and combo potential. It's for those reasons it tends to be ganged upon early. Blue also has very good sweepers - think Cyclonic Rift and Evacuation.

Rhystic Study is generally considered to be a blue staple in EDH. Or in any multiplayer format.
Yeah I'm pretty sure he meant the mechanic as a whole was bad (which it was). Rhystic study was literally the only good card and bringing that up doesn't refute his point at all. God, it's a shame you didn't say the oh-so-cliche "[INSERT CARD NAME HERE] would like a word with you."

and it is only good in EDH. Not like other "staples'' that can find homes everywhere.
Prophecy tried "tax" and "mana burn" as mechanics and it kind of fell flat. I can see how some could be useful. But letting your opponent counter your spells/effects are generally bad. Regardless.
Sometimes in EDH I wish I just had the draw spell instead of drawing all the attention to myself with study.

I just want people who redraft to admit this:
"I can't draft objectively unless I am able to guarantee that I receive at least 3 rares. I am also better than most average/new players so I want to make sure that I get the best rares and they end up with worse ones. I care more about the monetary value of cards than actually playing the game for decent prizes."

Really another player complaining about counterspells. :/ How about playing against a black deck "Look at the players two untapped black, he most likely has a removal spell, best not play your creature" Or "See your opponents one mountain untapped, better not play your creature or it will get burned."
Playing around counterspells/removal is one the the aspects of the game. It might be slightly annoying, but it's not annoying for the illusion of it being safe ( I will allow you to play it, but it won't stay.) Yes, printing uncounterble cards, abilities, and a land that makes your threats uncounterable.
In short if we remove countering form the game, black will have to lose removal/discard, red will have to lose burn, green will lose mana ramp, and white will lose lifegain/mana efficient creatures.

Well we have cards that actual hate discard and protection etc. hates burn the same way as hexproof and the like hate removal.
Indestructible hates destroy effects and persist/undying are quite nasty aswell.
the "can't" be countered is just something to work around counterspells, that otherwise allow nearly no interaction.
In the past that was actual a great deal of why Counterspell was removed from printing. If a blue player has UU open they could simply counter you card, no matter what and you could do nothing about it.
Right now we have plenty of room to play against pretty much anything, so magic allows more interactions at different levels.
Boo! I think this is incredibly stupid, mostly because the guilds you might MOST expect it to be in... Gruul and Simic REALLY should have uncounterable things. Maybe it's not a cycle, but just a couple cards...
