Oh, I thought he was talking about playing a spell that is countering a spell with counters on it as it comes into play, but I see you guys were just discussing whether he was flashing a creature with flash in order to flash a flashback or just flashing a creature with flash but not needing flash in order to flashback a spell without flash.
It's rare that I prefer the promo art, but I think I may like this better than the original.

Same here, I much prefer the promo art. The FNM Pillar art is literally a huge pillar of fire that's right in your face. The AVR art is like Moses looking at the burning bush off in the distance.
And why exactly we would have care if we would pick up a playable rare as FNM reward sometime? I wouldntn mind once in a while getting a 5 dollar card as reward.. Not expecting snapcaster mage or something similar but i would like to get something valueable saving me money from buying it..
Nevertheless it is nice..Always FNM promos are nice.
1) FNM promos are for uncommon cards at best, never rares or mythics.
2) As far as value goes... you really haven't been paying attention, have you? Because if you had, you'd have noticed that they issued Dismember, Lingering Souls and Go For The Throat all within the past year.
WotC needs to break the "no rares or mythics" rule for Armada Wurm. Because if any card needed alternate art, it's that one. I mean, come on.
I don't care if it becomes the rarest promo card on the face of the planet, I'll buy a playset at premium just so I don't have to look at that ridiculously bad art.
ON TOPIC: I like the art on Pillar's FNM. I think I'll have to see it IRL, though to see if it's better than the original.
Pretty good. Although I still think I'd like it better if the promos were things that would still have slight monetary value in the future rather than none.
Well they want to make the promo a card that anyone can use... not just a good rare used in 1 deck. From what i can tell Pillar of Flame is one of most used cards in standard.

If that's your "casual," what on earth is required for "formal," a butler in livery shuffling the decks whilst a pianist plays Brahms in front of a tapestry?
I'm so glad that i'm going to be able to attend FNM again starting next month. I can get these to pimp out my burn deck a bit more Right next to my white bordered lightning bolt <3
The problem with defining this format by what is "fun" is that everyone seems to define fun as what they don't lose to. If you keep losing to easily answered cards, that means you should improve your deck. If you don't want to improve your deck, then you should come to peace with the idea that you are going to lose because you chose to not interact with better strategies.

This is one I will not mind giving to Yomako...unlike my FNM Evolving Wilds.

Feel free to tell me yours!
FNM promos are only ever common or uncommon.
Isn't that true of basically every common/uncommon burn spell ever though?
Pillar is a good choice, it's actually one of the harder commons to find simply due to demand.

It's a solid card and a worthy choice, but I just find it boring.
