Just because she's bossing some vampires around doesn't make her the mastermind behind the whole story arc. I see no reason it's not possible.
Except that everything she has done has been for her own betterment, not someone else's. She harvested the life from the village to return her own youth and was planning on devouring Dack's power.
It's not something that someone who is taking orders would be doing.
Having been to my local comic shop and gotten issues #2 and #3, which I wanted super badly (and having been surprised to see extra copies of #3 out - the one with the Standstill promo; I got it for my pal), I can add credence to the "no issue #4" claim by saying that my shop didn't have it either. Good stuff, #2 and #3, though!

Word has it that the issue will be out this weekend and the promo will be Breath of Malfegor.

If true, I think that takes the cake as the worst promo yet... :0/
Did you hear from a comic store, IDW or some website? A link would be nice, and thank you!
Wait.. and out this weekend? What's with THAT? ??

Weekend was just a typo on my part. It should be out wednesday.
Info was from a trusted source that talked directly with IDW representatives.
And hey, Breath of Malfegor isn't a bad promo. Better at least than Feast of Blood.
No, I'm pretty sure Breath of Malfegor is really bad. 999,999 times out of 1,000,000 I'd rather be playing either Exsanguinate, Kokusho, or something that can affect the board.

My, aren't we all nice now and not threatening to label people trolls when the person you're talking to is a mod. Sheesh.
Promo's very disappointing but I'm not too worried about it. I think with issue 3 selling out because of the ridiculously good promo, IDW is going to ask WotC for better promo cards in the future because it should be obvious by now that that is the main reason people are buying this comic. 'Cause it ain't for the story, I'll tell you that much.
I figure it'll take them a few months too prepare good promos ahead of time, so I expect to see better promos with the next series.

I expect you to be disappointed. But you're spot on that the story is awful. But how do you tell a story like this when WotC won't let anything you write be cannon or feature any of their card main characters in a meaningful way? It's no surprise the comics suck as bad as the last couple of novels.

Totally agreed, but like I said, the best EDH comic promo. Let's be fair, you're not running Feast of Blood, Faithless Looting, or Treasure hunt in your deck.
I've totally run Faithless Looting in commander. I'd consider Treasure Hunt, too, if I had Sylvan Library and Top in the deck. Of course, I'd run Breath of Malfegor in the right deck and the only one I've never used was Electrolyze. (I'd use that in 1 vs 1 if I played that, though)

Exsanguinate I could see being printed, except for the fact that they've already printed a very similar card.
And you're just being naive to think they'd print Kokusho as a promo outside of maybe Judge promos.
For one, they actually like to tie the comic into the promo and Kokusho sure as hell isn't going to make an appearance.
Must admit I'm pretty disappointed so far by the overall quality of the promos after eight issues. I'm not expecting a winner every issue, but when you charge $5 an issue while almost every other comic on the stands is $3-4, you need to ensure it's worth the extra money. The comic itself is average at best, and the promos are by and large not picking up the slack (Standstill being the obvious exception). With any luck they'll focus more on playable/fan-favorite cards in popular formats like Standard or EDH, else it's going to be difficult to keep justifying that $5 cost.

I'm not saying that I expect Kokusho to be a comic book promo, I'm saying that I'd never put Breath of Malfegor in any deck, regardless of the format, (except, possibly, sealed, if my card pool sucks) because there's always going to be a ton of cards I'd rather be playing. I only mentioned Kokusho and Exsanguinate because they were the first to come to mind, and they both fulfill a similar function to Breath of Malfegor.
If you want, I could name off every single card that I'd rather play that would be appropriate for a comic book promo. Heck, I'll even limit it to cards that would work with this cover art. There's only, like, a hundred or so cards that fit that criteria.
Speaking of art, Breath of Malfegor doesn't really work with this art. Sure, it's got Malfegor on it, but he's not using his breath weapon, which is kinda the important part.

Then I'd say you're being too picky and are expecting way too competitive cards. These aren't meant to be super premium products. This is aimed at a casual crowd, lower your standards man. If you want something that is a Must Play for some format, then this product isn't aimed at you.
At the end of the day, it's not a bad card. I've won more than a few multiplayer games with a well timed Breath. You just want it to be great... and I'll settle for playable.

No thanks, talking about competitive cards isn't something I'm interested in.

And neither Dack nor Sorin were casting anything on Standstill. Sorin was strangling the crap out of Dack. How is that a standstill?

He wasn't saying those would be the promos, he was saying that he'd rather get his money's worth for 5 damage, you know? Better to have a big recurrable dragon that causes life loss over a one-shot burn spell. However, both would be fine I think.

What makes you think that I'm only talking about competitive formats? When I said "regardless of the format", I was including all the various casual formats in that statement. The occasional draft at my LGS is as competitive as I go these days.
And it's not like my playgroup is super cutthroat, or that I'm opposed to playing janky cards. For Pete's sake, I have a deck built around Cowardice that I built specifically because one of my friends said that Cowardice was unplayable. I had a deck built around Rocket Launcher just so that I could shout "Missle Strike!!!" whenever I comboed out. I once built a mono-black deck whose theme was pollution. I called the deck "Toxic Love", and would always talk like the villain from the movie "Fern Gully" whenever I played it. I am one of the Timmiest Johnnies who ever Johnny-Timmied.
But that doesn't mean I want to use bad cards when there are better ones I could use. My primary complaint with Breath of Malfegor is not that there are better things to do, but that what it does do, there are better cards to do it with.
Is the art on Breath cool at least? Not feeling very motivated to spend $5+tax on a bad card and bad story... I've been following to this point but I'm losing interest...

The Spell Thief started strong with the giant's castle, but they wasted two issues. The issue with Sorin was interesting and useful, but the exposition in both this issue and issue two were negligible.
The only thing to take from this issue was how Dack and Sifa both ascended.
Hopefully Path of Vengeance will be better, seeing that we're moving back to Ravnica and Sifa's plans finally start to gain ground.

Okay, I'll admit, I was nitpicking there.
Beyond that, story is all exposition and I assume the next part of the arc to be where actual stuff happens...

It was... not one of the better issues.
The internet is your friend.
Aww, I won't have any free comics to give away to my casual game group this time...
