One of the few cards that you absolutely want to have in EDH!
Note the Sarcasm
On the card, I think it is ok, with decent P/T. the ability is useful in the mid to late game to get rid of redundant spells that are useless in the late game. Overall might see play in Standard to replace titans, while not a titan level, but still good.
#1 - What's the dumbest idea you ever had?
#2 - 15/15 for 15?
#1 - Make it dumber
#2 - Give it protection from removal and counter?
#1 - DUMBER!
#2 - Add Timewalk?
#1 - DAMN IT MAN, I SAID DUMB!! DUMB !!!
#2 - It destroys everything when it attacks.... And wait, I have a friend who plays mill decks... I want to beat him too.
#1 - Excellent! Recess is over, go back and learn sex-ed with the other 6th graders.
As someone who plays Commander exclusively, I am very pleased to see that wizards isn't making good cards while always keeping EDH in mind. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the good cards that we get, but it's just very... refreshing.
Color me disappointed. It's a fine ability for constructed, but what would normally be a total limited bomb in the vein of Sphinx of Uthuun becomes a nearly-vanilla 5/6 flier for 6.
I'll still first pick it probably, but with an invisible tear at what could have been.
And at least there won't be any, "Good in EDH" in this thread.
There have been about 20 people making that joke though, which is equally as tiring.
I'd like to see somebody better at statistics than me crunch some numbers on how often you'll be able to activate this in any given deck without specific cards TRYING to combo with it. I have a feeling this is a catch 22 kind of creature, in that the ability is not effective in a deck not designed to abuse it, but a deck designed to abuse it is not effective because it is wasting card space just for its ability. It is particularly ineffective in recent (although failing) control decks that run a very large spread of spells to catch as many threats as possible. This requires the consistency of many 4-ofs as the least of its stringent conditions.
That's being fairly pessimistic though, I am a big fan of Consecrated, but they can't all be card advantage gods. It has an additional power which makes it a whole turn faster to kill, and the card draw can be immediate and instant provided that it resolves, which is also a big leg up. I think it's cool, and am always glad to see new fat flying blue creatures. Somebody please break it.
Perhaps you should just send WOTC a resume and tell them why you're better at Magic than one of their employees instead of complaining here, where nobody really has any authority on the matter.

I'm all for limited being less swingy and rare-dominated. I'm not sure what's up with you.
If someone manages to break this card in some kind of weird dredge-reanimator, chuck two dredgers and win deck, I shall name him the king (or queen) of Johnnies.
Storyline nerd, sliver-lover, vegan, anarchist, pansexual, role-playing, tattoo-covered, punk kid. Those are all the applicable labels I can think of, I will add more as they pop up.
Current decks:
:symr::symw: Allies-Modern
:symg::symu: Infect-Old Standard that I need to update
And trying to decide what my next EDH will be.
I am a :symg::symrg::symr::symur::symu::symug: 'walker all the way.
I don't know rules to well, so tell me if this works: if i discard two cards with dredge using the sphinx's ability, can i dredge them and draw 2 cards? (so that i can get unlimited card draw)
I've seen a few people mention this card's synergy with Dredge, and while I agree that it would be much easier to trigger with a deck full of Dredge cards, the casting cost makes it somewhat prohibitive in that archetype. Dredge.dec doesn't really like 6cmc cards that do nothing while they're in the yard.
Unique ability, though, and love the art. It really captures the enigmatic feel that I believe a Sphinx should have.
this seems like a pretty great replacement for cephalid in dredge as a dread return target, as you usually have two gravetrolls in your hand, or stinkweed imps. Either way it seems pretty powerful for dredge mechanic too bad dread return is banned in modern.

Anyway...does it bother anyone else that this generic Sphinx has a higher total power/toughness than Isperia?? I mean, c'mon, what's up with that?
So...there are two win-button combos with this card.
Relentless Rats + Laboratory Maniac
Tamiyo, the Moon Sage (well, her Emblem) + Laboratory Maniac (well, you need two copies of some other card first, heck, just use Relentless Rats, Laboratory Maniac, AND Tamiyo...)
I'm pretty sure you can do that.

I think. But after reading it again I think you guys may have it right. It's just horribly worded.

Just horrible.
yep, card is trash, I would rather it had been pitch 2 draw 2
Have all of them.

Maybe, but the card still sucks.
