I will definitely be picking up all of the intro packs, pretty stoked about it. Eh, might have been awesome with the guild leaders, but this is fine too.
I will admit that the M13 intro packs were the very first time where I made a conscious effort to get every single deck, largely due to the legendary rares included in them. I would love to see a repeat of this by Wizards in the future, but this is by no means expected on my part.
Considering they are giving out 5 different cards as prerelease promos rather than the normal 1 it makes sence that they reuse them this way...otherwise have 10 of the rares of the set as easy to get stuff would drive the sell down more than what they'll do now...
IMO it is still a good deal more if the Deck are decent enough
Me for once might get some and play Sealed Fun with them and my friends as we will not have prerelease in my town...
This post makes a lot of sense.
Yeah, I'm slightly disappointed, too, but I can see the reasons behind this decision. And people shouldn't judge the decks by their foils, I expect them to be about as good as the original Ravnica precons. I'll probably end up buying the Izzet deck after going as Izzet to the prerelease, and having two copies of a good flying beater is nothing to sneeze at. Mixing it with the original Gyzmometry is also going to be an exciting experience.
I also believe that the guild leaders are going to be the only legendary creatures in the block. The original amount of legends was due to Ravnica following Kamigawa, a Legend-centric block. There's no reason to print more this time other than as another throwback to the original block.
This just seems to further support the idea that there will NOT be Guild Champions in this BLOCK. I mean, it would be sooo perfect! The Mythic Rarity would further distinguish the Leaders from the Champions (Champions could be Rare), and instead of randomly having the Guildmage on the front of the deck, the Guild Champion would be there, front and center, nice and shiny! If there's not Guild Champions in this set, why would they be in Sinker? I mean, 5 legends in RTR, 5 legends in Gatecrash, then...10 legends in Sinker, the small set? No way!
And besides, I thought they said they wanted to support Commander more and stuff, yet they keep missing out on GREAT opportunities like this (Like, no Legendary Werewolf in Innistrad block) The new Legends and their decks in M13 was AWESOME...but I guess it was not a preview of what was to come...But as cool as they were, they were still monocolor. I think most people would love seeing more dual-color legends, especially in enemy colors. OH WELL.
I mean...yeah, not 100% confirmed yet, but I'm really doubting it by now.
Who knows? Maybe the other rare is the Guild Champion? Sure...
Nah, there's no room for that, because everyone knows that the other rare will be a SHOCKLAND. Sure...
The language issue is weird but not unheard of. In the last blocks I got the information from my usual store that the last set never has intro packs in Portuguese, nly the first two. I don't really get the logic but I never did find a Portuguese intro set from any third set of a block. Maybe WotC is going with English only intro packs from the get go.
Seriously, giving out 5 prerelease cards, a release card,a buy a box card, a Gameday card, and 10 intro pack rares that aren't any of those would use up pretty much every general appeal, non-staple rare in the set. For some of the guilds, that could easily even be their only bomb at rare.
I didnt know people even bought these things unless there was a broken print in them a la jitte. Thats definitely not going to happen when half the poeople that want theese rares already have one via the prerelease.
You guys realize that these aren't made for collectors, right? They're impulse buys for people who sort of play, go to target or walmart, see a "ridiculous" green/white land or blue/red dragon and drop their money for it.
Also, a lot of folks want more than one of these foiled because they like their EDH decks to bling. Now, I won't have folks crowding up Golgari at the prerelease because they want a Corpsejack for Ghave.
I don't really agree with that at all. While there's rarely anything in an intro pack I can't get even just by cracking boosters, I see myself as a collector and a serious player, and I still end up buying at least one every release, depending on what is in them, and what the foil is. M13 is the only example of a time I bought all of them for the foil copies of the legends, but you never know, there might be something in one of them you really wanted
I'm a little surprised by all the hate here. Did you guys really expect five different intro pack rares from those we get on the prerelease?

I don't know man, after buying over 100 intro packs and theme decks, I'm pretty sure that qualifies as collecting.
Is this the first time a Land is the front rare of an Intro Deck?
Yeah, but it's not a normal land. It's one that makes an 8/8 vigilance for 6 mana. The fact that it's also a land is irrelevant because new players will pop it the first chance they get.
I'm a little surprised by all the hate here. Did you guys really expect five different intro pack rares from those we get on the prerelease?
Um, yeah? I mean, I can understand the reasoning in hindsight (5 different prerelease promos means more of those rares in circulation, might as well devalue 5 rares on the secondary market as opposed to 10 (not to mention that all five of them are very indicative of each guild's theme)), but considering that nothing like this has ever happened before (to my knowledge, at least)... I can see why some people are upset. I know that I, who was planning on choosing Izzet in prerelease and then getting the Izzet deck, am a little miffed, but upon reflection, at least it's a chance for me to get a foil Corpsejack (the power of Ghave compels me!).
In any case, I've come to accept this fact, and am now looking forward to release! Between Izzet vs Golgari, Izzet prerelease, and a Golgari Intro Pack, I'm gonna be LOADED with Izzet and Golgari-ness!

Someday, I will own all of the dragons. All of them. 43/111, approximately 39% complete. Over a third done.
(calling it now; there will be a cycle of Legendary dual lands with Basic Land types in Theros block)
... AAAAAAAAND I was wrong
No offend but you seem to be the only collector/player I heard who feels a need to buy Intro Packs.
Every Player that I know that is not an utter noob has no interest in buying Intro Packs. They are Noob-Baits, or Starters to get Random Buyers onto Papercrack nothing more.
I don't know about you, but try to build 5 2 color $10 decks that doesn't suck, and each color is represented twice, and each deck is a block constructed deck. Oh yeah, all 5 must be balanced.
I collect intro packs because I don't have to do what I stated above. Balancing 5 decks is hard by oneself. For those who want to play, but do not want to totally commit to the game, that is, get better, then yeah, intro packs are a good purchase, considering how intro packs only suck in relation to constructed decks, but against other intro packs, then they are fun to use.
But hey, you have one deck and a group full of people who normally don't invest in magic. You'd probably need to go to a game store to find somebody to play with. Now me, I can get some person who does not really want to be a super magic nerd, that is, they don't want to be top magic player, and build the ultimate deck, and spend $1000 on a single deck, and be able to play with them, because I can just get my box of over 100 intro packs/theme decks, and say "pick one", and they could play. These "non-magic" players may be former magic players who don't want to commit to the game entirely. Apparently by definition, they are noobs. After-all, we noobs don't spend $100 on one deck, and spend almost more than a quarter of the day at a card shop playing the game, and prefer to only just play the game, rather than be the super magic pro.
Yeah these look pretty disappointing, but I can't remember the last time an Intro Pack did anything but disappoint. At least they made Event Decks for anyone who wants to a buy pre-con that isn't awful. And those should be insane this time; they're pretty much guaranteed to be guild-based, and the way they've been packing one or two rare lands into the Event Decks lately, they should both have at least one shockland.

intro packs became dissapointing in 2008. When Theme Decks became intro packs.
Other downhill attempts at intro packs happened too:
2011: New Phyrexia intro packs and other small set intro packs now contain 1 rare of that set, as opposed to 2.
2012: Magic 2013, Theme decks used to be packaged in a deck box. Shards of Alara to Avacyn Restored intro packs are packaged in some sort of box that you can still put your deck back into. Magic 2013 and beyond, well, let's just say once you take out that deck, it takes a lot of fumbling around to put it back in, and take it back out again, thus making the M13 and beyond intro pack packaging not reusable.
2012: Return to Ravnica, probably not likely to be a permanant thing, but intro packs now contain foil rares that are the same as the prerelease promo.
The times that intro packs improved, ahem, I mean, are fixed, are in:
2010: Magic 2011, 41 cards to 60 cards, to fix the error they did in 2008.
2012: Magic 2013, second booster to fix the fact that intro packs suck, and the second boosters is saying, hey, here are some random cards to make your intro pack better, but we don't guarantee that they will be Theme Deck quality.
Yeah. Kinda sucks they merged Intro and Theme. I know they were similar, but not entirely. Intro are for beginners. Theme decks are for people looking to improve on a theme. Common bond: card hunters.

Well intro packs also do have a theme, such as a tribal or mechanical theme, but the only difference I see is that intro packs are neutered theme decks.
The only thing I hate is the packaging. Went from a fully functional box, to a semi-functional box, to a useless box. Apparently, the box is useless because the product is called intro PACK, kind of like booster PACK, where the packaging is expected to be thrown away, as opposed to something like event DECK where you are supposed to keep the packaging to serve as the DECK box.

Or, people will buy 1 fatpack and trade the dice they dont want for another one. Its not that hard if you go to the store regularly. Trust me.

There will be no Russian intro packs too - sadly information from our distributor.
I'll still pick up a foil Corpsejack Menace (Ghave told me to), but the rest I'll let hang.

They have said Teysa will be involved in the block, so I wouldn't completely discount the Guild Champions.
Maybe they'll all be in the 3rd set or something so they don't get mixed up with the Leaders.
