I love the fact that Loxodon Smiter is immune to 99% of countermagic and discard, but is just a vanilla dude once it's actually on the board. You're practically guaranteed to get this from your hand onto the battlefield unmolested, but once it's there the only thing protecting it from removal is its 4 toughness.
Totally called the counterspell yesterday, when m13 came out and when people started to POed about SCM+Mana leak. Perfect counterspell for a SCM Standard not to strong to define the format but strong enough to be played when you need a counterspell in your deck.

Calling someone a Commie is flaming and must be stopped, but turning the word Conservative into a loaded pejorative and using it over and over again is perfectly acceptable.
I think Syncopate is supposed to be Dissipates #5-8, but considering people don't run all 4, and apparently every spell on ravnica is counter-proof, this seems kinda meh.
Also, I really cannot tell what is going on with that art??????
Discarding this elephant to the loltroll seems like a powerful turn two

I fear I won't have much time to play Magic these days.
I get to watch worlds develop around me.
I get to watch great leaders, terrible oppressors, and trend setters rise and fall.
Limited, Standard, Modern, everything is a different playing field I feel I can observe, but will not actually touch.
I look forward to the stories I will hear.
And more so to the ones I will watch unfold first hand.
Isn't the unknown exciting?
Same, although I prefer Power Sink just due to it forces them to pay them mana regardless of if they had enough or not. Although the exile could be decent against Snapcaster I guess.
Syncopate? Really? If this is what all the "can't be countered" stuff revealed in the set so far is meant to hose, then there is a serious problem with Wizards' perception of power. I don't recall Syncopate being very powerful when it was last in Standard (after all, when it was last in Standard, so was the original Counterspell).
Loxodon Smiter is crazy. Ignoring the Obstinate Baloth ability, it's a vanilla 4/4 for THREE MANA. Ramp decks can get this out on turn two pretty easily.

Definite agreement there. Really like it (and most of the art from this set thus far).

Honestly, it's probably worse than power sink. Atleast power sink taps them out afterwards. It can be a blow out.

I agree, it's ridiculous.

Turn 2 4/4 Elephant
Turn 3 Rancor on Elephant, play Strangleroot Geist.
Love it. Make it happen.
Not much else to say otherwise. A solid, uncounterable beatstick and a counter I've seen and dealt with before. Fine by me.

Loxodon is the nuts.

Opponent only. It's just gonna sit in your graveyard.
No really, why is everyone so nonchalant about a 4/4 for 3? Y'all are spoiled rotten. Who cares if it's just a dude?
it doesn't work that way... the elephant only comes into play if your opponent makes you discard him

I'm going back and forth between loving and hating that Syncopate art. Better than the original for sure, though.
