I hope they make something that interacts with +1/+1 counters in black (not Corpsejack). This Rakdos dude enters with +1s, and Unleash is all about +1s
Jarad's Orders: Seems too slow for most constructed formats. Might be good with Unburial Rites, provided that we see a good reanimation target. Pretty darn good in EDH.
Cyclonic Rift: Ow. This is really awesome. I don't see it functioning as a control finisher in standard (Because when you play this against most decks, they just replay their hand while you're tapped out and enjoy the ETB effects), but in EDH the Overloaded version might as well read "You win the game."
Cryptborn Horror: Nope, I'm not seeing it. Maybe in a very dedicated burn deck, he could be a decent way of providing reach, but otherwise he's pretty much "Win more." In Zombies, I don't think the curve can support him too well, although he can get REALLY big if you have the right pieces set up.
That was my thought. I'm really not a fan of Tooth and Nail-style "I win" cards, especially not in Blue.
Wizards print good rares, players complain about cash grab. They print underwhelming rares, players complain that the cards suck. They spoil the best cards first, players complain about the insane prices of preorders. They spoil the meh cards first, players complain that this is the worst set ever.
So. I think I understand now.
As far as these forums are concerned, WotC can never do anything good because:
Card that is new and probably good = "pushed"
Card that is new and probably bad = "EDH/casual fodder"
Card that is a reprint = "lazy"
Card that is a better version of an older card = "power creep"
Card that is a weaker version of an older card = "worthless"
Not seeing anything that even slightly convinces me the Horror is even slightly playable.
I could actually see this being played in multiplayer EDH. You hit one player for a lot, then cast this beastie for cheap. Horror is a strong multiplayer card, I think.
what? where did i say anything about this dying to removal?
if anybody has a poor argument its you. check yourself before you wreck yourself, seriously.
how exactly do you try to compare this guy to goyf? like i dont even know where to start on how horrible your argument is...
You don't even understand what my argument was.
The goyf thing was a blast to the past with people saying goyf was bad because it died to terror. I was comparing that to your argument.
Its the same rhetoric, if you compare it to a typical r/b build this guy should be killing them on turn 4 and if you are on top deck mode something went drastically wrong.
So, why does anyone care if its a bad top deck? Its a sick curve.
Why doesn't that Rakdos card cost 1? Even if you manage to do 4 damage on turn 3, it is only a 4/4 for for 3. We have seen one of those that can't be countered and might come into play for free. Maybe if it cost 1-2 it would leave room to punish an opponent for an uninteractive draw by hitting them for 4 then hurling a generic burn spell at them and making them deal with a 6/6.
Have you lost your mind? Do you know anything about this game?
If that card cost just instead of 3, in standard alone on turn 3 you could miracle a Thunderous Wrath, Pillar of Flame then cast him with your last mana and get a 7/7 trample for after dealing 7 damage already. Yeah, that sounds amazingly fair. Basically, you just cast a better Inferno Titan on turn 3.
This is exactly why most people on this forum have absolutely no idea how to evaluate cards.
Best one of this lot is definitely Jarad's Orders. In the right deck, it has power equivalent to Gifts Ungiven and it's in the exact right color to make the right deck.
Cyclonic Rift will see EDH play. Evacuate gets played plenty in blue decks and this is more powerful for two extra mana (not that big of a deal in that format). I doubt it will see Standard play, unless the format slows down significantly.
The Cryptborn horror is potentially nice, but I doubt it's powerful in standard. As was already pointed out, it's only good if you're already winning, which is the definition of a win-more card. Only around 4-5 damage does it actually become decent and if you can deal 4-5 damage in a turn and still have enough mana open, then you should be winning either way. In that situation, I'd rather have a Duress or some nice removal in my hand to decrease the odds that my opponent has a way of turning things around. And if I'm not doing well... I'd still rather have Duress or a nice piece of removal.
that radkos card is the definition of win more, but we have Vexing Devil, so if we get a good bump in the night type card i can see it. If you don't curve into a 4/4 on turn 3, at least you'll be able to get it on turn 4 for 3 mana. It might also find a home in some super-fast creature deck with banners raised and hellrider. The cards aren't there now, but he's definitely got some potential.
Thing is, ALL of the Rakdos cards have been terrible for Standard! Doesn't that disturb you even a small bit while you see blue getting great cards left and right?!
Missing Dreadbore, Slaughter Games, and Augur Spree?
Do you see Azorius players whining a storm, when all we've gotten so far is a half-decent Charm (Rakdos charm hasn't even been spoiled yet), Familiar & Supreme Verdict?
Wait until you see all the cards spoiled before flipping a conniption.
Dreadbore won't see standard play outside of Jund and will be the first thing to go once people realize Vraska, Jace and Liliana won't survive the new U Tempo deck that's brewing.
There is no U tempo deck brewing, it will just be a variation on Delver. Btw, a U/B/G Superfriends deck is PROBABLY going to have some version once RtR drops.

Slaughter Games and Augur Spree are not good.
Dreadbore is fine, but nothing amazing, given we have already seen spells that effectively do the same thing (oblivion ring for example, is even better, so 'killing' planeswalkers is not really a new effect). It is a nice effect for the colours to have, but not worth the crazy praise it is receiving.

"Fair" doesn't exist in a format where U get's Delver, Impostor, Nivmage Elemental, Snapcaster Mage and the still unseen uncommon 1drop. All that exists is U wins, R sucks. And if it wasn't for the great Golgari cards B would be dragged to the suckage by Rakdos too.
Suspiciously, B is the deck that's hurting Delver's standard dominance.

Because the problem of RB is usually reach. Having a "sick curve" can be easily be done in an RB deck. But once you run out of gas, then you're screwed.

I think this is Rakdos' plan all along. Why make any of his underlings good when he can be the star of the show?
Rakdos had better be one heckuva BAMF, and hopefully with a mana cost that isn't outrageous. It seems like many of the Rakdos cards are either junk or just slightly overcosted (with some exceptions, mind you. Dreadbore is awesome.)

Wrong. Slaughter Games is good, and will be in sideboards...a lot. You are wrong again, because when it comes to getting rid of 'walkers Dreadbore>O-Ring.
I don't care what anyone says, I am loving all of these Rakdos cards! Granted they might not be the best is standard but they are going to be boatloads of fun in limited.
Demon: This seems decent as a turn 6 cast after Brimstone Volley
Rift: I've been waiting for this card and I knew it was coming, but where is Izzets 1 drop instants?
Command: No problems here. Diabolic Tutor saw borderline fringe almost kinda play sometimes. This is the same cmc with an added perk. Will it help? Couldn't hurt.

There's a few 10 CMC red creatures (like Progenitus) so you could be talking 12/12 (or better) on turn 3 if you can get a Goblin Guide out and pitch Progenitus to the Blazing Shoal.
Not to mention you would've just dealt 12 damage to your opponent so there's that too.
Cyclonic Rift - Great in the early game insane in the late game.
Cryptborn Horror - Seems a bit slow for Standard maybe it will find a home else where.
