Living temples. These are moderately sized to enormous organic elementals that dwell beneath the ground and exist for most of their lives as root structures with their aboveground vines and tendrils holding masonry in place. This masonry is often a temple or an amphitheater that Selesnyans use in day-to-day life. If threatened, a priest or shaman can summon the living temple and the whole elemental rises from under the earth, the chunks and pieces of masonry still incorporated into its body for use as armor or weapons. After it defeats its foes, the living temple then returns under the earth and assembles its stonework back into place as if nothing had happened.
Maybe i'm reading too much in this but maybe Selesnya has a enchantment subtheme ?
Those living temples really reminds me of Enchantments that becomes creatures until EOT.
How bummed will you be when Mat'Selesnya ends up being an Eldrazi?
You did know she appears in the first novel. She's a moderate sized elemental, like Guardian of Vitu-Ghazi. At least that's how I pictured her from the description.

The original Ravnica also had a small Enchantment / Aura subtheme (Fists of Ironwood, Bramble Elemental, Gatherer of Graces, Beastmaster's Magemark and its friends ...), so I think we will see some Auras. Since G and W are pretty much the "Aura colors", it'd be no surprise if the Conclave had a greater share of them.
Don't forget the argument that they would pair super nicely with the Basic Land Types matter subtheme of M13
I thiught the same thing, what with farseek, gem of becoming, liliana's shade, and the strictly worse version of harrow that is ranger's path... And the kird-apes of course.
I am I the only one angry about the way WoTC waved their magic retcon wand again for this block and just brushed away the dissolution of the Guilds? I mean, as recently as Agents of Artifice, the guilds were broken. Since Jace is still alive and presumably young when RtR takes place, the block couldn't take place more than 20 years following the novel. There's not nearly enough time to naturally reform the guilds in that space.
The guilds did not fall. It was the Guildpact that dissolved. And in the epilogue of the last novel,Dissension, the substitute guildmasters were working towards remaking a Guildpact that was better.
As long as the past events are not irrelevant, i'm happy. The end of the guilds did not happen but there was some big changes in some guilds and i hope they use those changes in the story structure.
And the hate lines in the end of the article sucked for several reasons... First i expected more balanced opnion from Selesnya about some other guilds (Azorius specially). And i think a Selesnyan should be more sofisticated in in his insults about guilds they hate.

Let me put it to you this way.
Do you think Europe would cease to be if a few small countries fell and their rulers were killed?
True some national borders may move a bit and things might be a little chaotic for a time but things should settle back to relative normal fairly quickly.
The Guildpact was what fell. A contract that defined the guilds and what they were allowed to do. The guilds themselves were still around, just a little disorganized. It would seem that after the events of AoA the guilds were able to re-establish themselves under some new leaders and things are now moving forward under a new non-magical guildpact.

The last one, with the centaurs, reminds me of Still Life for some reason. I don't necessarily think it's getting reprinted (it seems kind of a random card to reprint, and not particularly in Selesnya's purview), but the picture hits the same notes for me.
I don't think they're supposed to be statues (I think they're just wearing masks/helmets) but they give that same "statue coming to life" vibe. And they're centaurs.
If that's not a Temple Garden ... then ... Um, it's something else?
I think it might be a new "guildhall" land. Since it appears right after the discription of Sumala, the Topiary Groveand seems like a pretty good representation of it, I'd guess it's gonna be that.
This. I think people REALLY need to stop OMG'ing about how every piece of art is a reprint. OF COURSE it looks similar, it's the same dang plane. Look at Scars. Not many reprints there. I really don't expect many here (other than shocks, and really, we don't need any others IMO).

Shocks and Dark Confidant... that guy desperately needs a reprint, preferably with new art (in keeping with the "replace popular Invitational Cards with new, terrible art" tradition).

solemn simulacrum's art could only have been improved upon.
Sad to see them embracing the creepy, cultish "small sacrifices for greater good" bent you'd see on some Selesnya cards.
I hope they don't make the Azorius sound so dumb this time around.

Off Topic, but uhh.....defender/trample seems like a bad combination you got going there.

Unfortunately, the answer to your question is "because they're on the reserved list".

I had earlier suggested something that had defender but "awakens" somehow and loses defender. Would make sense according to how they portrayed them.

It's something totally new and innovative and that everyones gunna bash then praise 4 months later.
