Honestly, "Exalted" is synonymous to "Holy" or "Blessed" to me because I believe that I've seen all three used in the Bible to describe God. I associate the word "Exalted" with something other than "self-importance," which is a defining characteristic of Black as it is in the current color pie. A Demon that got loner bonuses makes sense given your rationale, but not Exalted--Why would the demon care about the Worshippers in combat if he is so much more powerful than them? They are clearly not going to get the job done like he can. Either way, I feel that worship in Black is like merely saying "Black = Evil" because we equate demon worship with heresy, and we assume "Heresy = Evil." However, the first card we're seeing is a Black Cleric and I feel like an average black card wanting to help out the team is a stretch, which is why I provided the rationale about boosting another creature so the black character doesn't have to chance going down in combat.
You're being way too religious there. Exalted works perfectly in green (A pack leader exalting the cubs to hunt), in red (a warrior, exalted by the heat of battle), in white (a champion, exalted by the recognition of his peers), and so does in black (a dark knight, exalted by pride and the promise of power). Where it doesn't fit so well is in blue cause they're more likely to stroker their egos thru deception and wits than thru showing off their combat skills in a duel, tho it can still exist seamlessly.
Black can do exalted well, specially if the Orzhov are still around since they have one of the best possible uses of exalted in black: An assasin doing what must be done for the sake of the family. Remember how scicilian mafia-like BW is and how loyal minions and hitmen are to their families.

Yes sir, I take fantasy art and character design commissions, PM me for rates.
Also, they could still bring it back in RTR. Just like they did with old RAV.
Was just thinking this. Hierarch almost has to be reprinted in M13, I doubt we're going to be seeing Exalted as an evergreen, so this is the best time to reprint him. And I do think they're putting the Birds in RTR instead of the core set. I'm fine with both being in Standard, though.

Definition of EXALT
transitive verb
1: to raise in rank, power, or character
2: to elevate by praise or in estimation : glorify
3 obsolete : elate
4: to raise high : elevate
5: to enhance the activity of : intensify <rousing and exalting the imagination — George Eliot>
No standard definition of exaltation depends upon its subject's righteousness or virtue.
Well, this makes me wonder even more why Battle Cry mechanic was ever created..??
Glad it's coming back though. Exalted (and yes, Battle Cry) is an interesting mechanic and drives different types of aggro decks. Makes aggro a bit more interesting to play.
While I like the idea of Noble Hierarch being reprinted as an attempt to curb Modern's cost; I don't like the idea of UW Delver moving into Green for turn two Geist of Saint Traft and attacking 4/3 Delver of Secrets. WR will lose Primeva Titan and giving U/W Delver that kind of option is a bit scary to me. Just hope that there is some new tools for current brews and future ones.
To make it strictly better than Noble Hierarch? Really?
Birds (or Lizards, or Salamanders, the type doesn't matter as long as it's obscure and underused) have less tribal support than both Druids and Humans. Not strictly better than Noble Hierarch.
I am excited for Exhaulted. Not the greatest mechanic, but add fun combat action. Plus, we will get to see new creatures with the old mechanic. Always a fan of that.
There's no reason for Hierarch to come back. He provides blue mana, an enemy color, but not red, an allied color. This isn't something that fits into a core set.

I see the point, and a few people have mentioned this, but:
- Birds of Paradise provides both enemy colors, U and B, and they have no problem reprinting that.
- UG are enemies, but UWG is an allied shard, much like Bolas' RBU is.
- "Add U, W, or G to your mana pool" is not difficult to grok. It's fine for new players.
- It would fill the role of "Modern reprints" that they've been promising. It's a staple card for decks in those colors.
- The allied/enemy color thing is a guideline. They're not eternally bound to it.

All of these arguments are wrong:
- Birds of Paradise provides any color mana, just as blue card-draw can draw you into a red or green card, or Auramancer can retrieve a black or red Aura. The intent is not explicitly to link BoP with U and B, whereas Noble Hierarch explicitly links G with U.
- UWG is an allied shard, with white being the commanding color between two enemies, just like black in UBR. Cards like Nacatl Hunt-Pride bend this rule, so they are not appropriate for a core set.
- Lightning Helix is easy to grok. That doesn't mean they'll reprint it - it's enemy colored and they try to keep that out of core sets lately.
- There are other places where they can reprint it. They also need to reprint Tarmo for Modern, do you think a core set is the right place?
- They haven't shown any indication of wanting to do without the color-pie allegiance and enmity. Do you really believe they'll throw it away for Noble fricking Hierarch?
I like Noble Hierarch and I would be very excited to see her reprinted in M13. That being said, I'm not sure I understand the color war being waged in the posts above. And what does 'grok' mean?

To "grok" something is, more or less, to intuitively understand it. When you grok an idea you immediately "get" it with little to no explanation of the concept required.
It seems like a very silly idea to me to put Noble Hierarch in a core set over Birds of Paradise. I get that we want Modern staples reprinted but displacing iconic and important core set staples is not the way they should be coming.

I wouldn't be surprised to see it. Birds of Paradise is a green flyer. I'm sure certain elements of the design and development teams would love for it to be gone.
i'll laugh my ass off if they print a jund hierarch that tries to imitate noble hierarch which can tape for :symg:or:symb:or:symr: over nobles :symg:or:symu:or:symw:
birds of paradise needs to be done. its not even worth toilet paper anymore. unless you have original printings.
believe it or not 1920s toilet paper today still in the original packaging has collectors value... just sayin

Even if Birds of Paradise is replaced, Hierarch is not a good replacement. It's extremely block-specific (not talking about exalted, but the specific combination of colors it makes) and it doesn't beat out the Birds for resonant flavor. Resonance is the whole reason the Birds are still around, after all, and not swapped out for something else given the ample opportunities to do so in the past three modern-style core sets.

Neither do U/R, but we already have a card confirmed for this set that uses these 2 colors in it's casting cost.
