Please o magic gods, reprint rafiq of the many! He would be amazing in my new exalted-soulbond wild defiance deck! And as long as im praying, please reprint might of oaks too...!
Exalted was my least favorite Shards mechanic, unless you count colored artifacts, which really didn't add much to the table and would've been weird in a core set anyways. Unearth would've been cool, especially with Innistrad and self-mill/graveyard strategies. Would've had synergy with Liliana 2.0 as well.

So you're saying that you also liked the power 5 or greater mechanic more than exalted as well? I can totally understand if you just forgot it though due to it being so forgetful or so awful that you mentally blocked it out.
why bant? why exalted?
why not naya, why not esper, why not cascade?
this sucks...
and will make me hate that fuggin geist even more u.u
Because the Nayan thing was "creatures with power 5 or greater get X", Esper was ARTIFACT CREATURES! and cascade is super silly and typically not fun to play with.

I think people are WAY overthinking Exalted and the color pie. I think it's fine for black. Not super excited about it, but it's fairly vanilla mechanic. So it's sort of like getting excited about flying. Looking forward to M13 overall though and what gold stuff we might be getting.
probably. after all we are talking about exalted in black.
I don't get this comment. Have you read nothing of this thread? Are you honestly telling me that you cannot wrap your head around how exalted as a mechanic can fit flavorfully into black?
Are you telling me that bleeding a mechanic is MORE of an offence than outright changing the color aligments in a CORE SET?
Look, I<3S, I'm glad to offer constructive advice at the CCC forums when you make designs, since you seem eager for feedback. Here's some right now: don't get snarky with me, and be fricking reasonable.
FUMAR'S MEGAPOST ON "SHUT UP AND SWALLOW EXALTED"
So, black has creatures with Exalted. What does that mean? Isn't Exalted supposed to be a WUG mechanic? How can black "exalt" anything if it's the color of horrors and godless maniacs?
Let us deconstruct what "exalted" means as a mechanic:
It foments creatures to attack alone.
It rises power and toughness.
It implies some creature being considered above the others, hierarchically.
What colors want to have a lone attacker? The answer: all. In different situations, but all do. White and Blue want to build a fort and send one evasive beater ahead. Green can usually rely on a big beater while having several ramp and utility creatures. Black and red start out with aggressive small creatures that become obsolete late game, and you use them as sacrificial fodder while a bigger threat pounds your enemy.
What colors can rise power and toughess? All of them. Next.
What colors believe in hierarchies? All of them. Each color can believe in a different god, as each color can select a leader. While each color can represent a different kind of anarchy (green is Hobbesian, white is egalitarian, black is individualist, red is chaotic, blue is solipsist), so can each color represent a different kind of order, based on the supremacy of the just, the powerful, the ruthless, the kind, the smart, etc.
The exalted flavor can also represent cowardice or cautious reserve from battle. I imagine the small goblins egging the big giant on to fight for them, the shrewd advisors whispering praise to their king to motivate him into battle.
I honestly don't see why everyone makes the same stupid comment about Exalted in black being such a world shaking event.
So you're saying that you also liked the power 5 or greater mechanic more than exalted as well? I can totally understand if you just forgot it though due to it being so forgetful or so awful that you mentally blocked it out.
Because red is not black, and given the philosophies of the current color pie, black would not deign to aid others who are beneath them. Take Nefarox, the black Exalted Demon that has been spoiled. The flavor behind other self-serving black creatures providing a boost to that demon is something that makes sense to me...but I can't fathom why the hell a 5/5 demon or any of his 3/1 followers would give a bonus to any random 1/1 creature. Any justification for that sequence of events is not an exaltation to me. But at that point, it's really just an argument that the word "Exalted" was a bad choice.

As a black mage, I can understand exalting someone. Seriously, if giving you a promotion means I don't end up on the front lines, by all means, go and get yourself killed and take out an enemy for me

Black is not dumb. If a demon knows that it should probably leave the way open for an underling to get into the fray, he would. Similarly, if the same demon knows it must take action by itself since his minions cannot be trusted to succeed, he will.
Except the ability to carry swords better (which rotate out anyway when RTR comes around), what advantage do Birds have over Hierarch, when you play Bant?
Plains - John Avon - 230
Island - Jung Park - 235
Island - Vincent Proce - 237

This is me crying. Why can't people realize that Hierarch is one of Magic's most irregular cards and thus unlikely to be printed? G is not supposed to be aligned with UWG, one color is its enemy and another one is its ally.
They are going to print something like Hierarch for sure, but not that exact card.
I don't want Noble Hierarch to replace Birds in standard because it will be expensive to replace my Birds with them.
Also yay another boring ability for the core set again. Why can't we have something interesting like Cycling or one of the many many keyword abilities from Future Sight that have only seen print on one card?

As for Exalted in the color pie, I never thought it to be a white fit philosophically. White is about the group, not the individual. That would be black.
Exalted IS about the group... The group supports the lone attacker from the sidelines. Black is NOT about *supporting* but *exploiting*. Black uses it's minions as a disposable source of power not as allies to rally together with.
That one makes sense for a wedge set. Druid of the Anima also makes sense outside of Alara. But Noble Hierarch only makes sense on Bant.
How is one enemy color ok but not the other? Urborg doesn't make sense in a core set and neither does Noble. It's all or nothing with enemy colors with base sets. I'll be very frustrated if they piss all over the pie with this set. And just print things for value instead of reason.
exactly this! so i don't understand why the chosen color was black. black also got bloodthirst last core set so i really don't understand why exalted now is in black and not in red, for example.
Who says red doesn't have it?!?!
xalted IS about the group... The group supports the lone attacker from the sidelines. Black is NOT about *supporting* but *exploiting*. Black uses it's minions as a disposable source of power not as allies to rally together with.
That's absolutely correct. That's why white can use exalted (they rally) and why black can use exalted too (they get subjugated.)
The fact you are "exalting" something doesn't mean you are doing it because you think that thing is good, you may be doing it because it would suck for you if you don't. For more, see: religion.

Read the above. You can print Ceta Disciple if you want a card that plays on enemies, you can print Scornful Etherlich if you want a card that plays on allies, but Nacatl Hunt-Pride only works if you know W is part of the Naya shard in Alara since it plays nether on allies or enemies.
Similarly, Mirran Crusader doesn't make sense outside Mirrodin. What are BG to white? One its enemy, the other the ally. Only in Mirrodin those are the main colors of Phyrexian invaders.

Huh? How is that any different from attacking with a 6/2 and an exalted trigger?
The exalted trigger essentially makes it a 7/3, using your p/t analogy.

I already play Bant. You don't need Rafiq, but he would be a great addition.
Silverblade Paladin works really nicely with Geist, as does Wolfir Silverheart.
Hierarch would be interesting, but I don't know if I want to give up my birds.

But I also like Birds because it taps for any color mana, which is obviously relevant to my non-Bant decks.

This is a wedge-aligned card. Hierarch is aligned with W's shard, WUG, while being a G card.
Druid of the Anima vs. Urborg Elf represent green's shard and green's wedge. Hierarch represents neither.
