The devour X^2 guy simply fails me in every way possible. I was so excited that they would do such a thing, but the wording on the devour X is way more unclear than just saying "devour x^2," but I know they would never print it that way. Now I get to have arguments with my friends that the mess printed on the card translates to x^2. I was deathly afraid that it would have no other abilities and lo- there are none. Trample is a must for a creature with the potential to be huge, and notice that you MUST devour something for this guy to live, making an already "feel bad" mechanic even worse. It's "feel bad" because you x for 1 YOURSELF, then your opponent thanks you for wrathing your own board, then kills it, chumps it into oblivion, or worst of all- bounces it. How bad do you feel when it loses all its counters, comes back to your hand, then you have the "choice" to play it AGAIN. Good god. It was such a good idea, foiled by, dimwitted implementation. I'm more excited for the shoat.
Devour X^2 actually gives you X^3 counters. This is the best way to do it. You need to reference X somewhere, and actually putting it on the card is probably the best way.
And he doesn't have anything else because he was the potential to become absolutely massive. And it's easy enough to give creatures trample anyway.

I'll hold myself to this. I'll get fancy dishes and everything.
Why is the minotaur up on the spoiler with the wrong cost for his ability? It's clearly more than just UR. The previous card is covering up the rest of it.

I'm going to assume the Chaos Reigns deck is not just RUG but is in fact all colors. On the picture for the box it features a plane that makes lands produce any color, and also features all five colors of cards.
As for the Legendary Hellion... what a cool card. Although someone will bring up the fact he still dies to Doom Blade, Path to Exile, etc, he looks very fun, especially if you play EDH. Outside of that, if you devour five creatures than he's a 1 hit K-O and especially fun to Fling!
The Illusion Angel probably can't be played unless another spell was played first that turn. It wouldn't make sense if you had to planeswalk; that would be way too limited.
Etherium-Horn Sorcerer looks really, really fun. I am hoping that its bounce cost is less than its converted mana cost. I'm already thinking of some awesome shenanigans I can cascade into with this!
Dragonlair Spider is cool; like someone else had said I wish it made spider tokens instead. Spider tokens are sad But still, it seems fairly decent, considering your opponent puts a 1/1 insect on your field as a cost for each spell they cast.
Overall, this looks really cool so far, and I'm hoping that the rest of the cards and the decklists are just as cool.
What he's saying is the card can not just read "Devour x^2" because x is undefined. Furthermore, if it read Devour x^2, where x is the number of creatures devoured in this way, the hellion would ETB with x^3 1/1 counters.
I love how Planechase and hopefully other similar releases give developers and card creators the chance to return to familiar planes without spending an entire block back on them. It's as if the developers get to add cards to an old set that they wanted to include, but couldn't for some reason.

I agree with this completely, and love it for that reason. I hope they start doing this for all of these special sets!

So, the Preyseizer Dragon looks pretty amazing. The legendary Hellion looks good too. Let me get this straight, if you devour three creatures, it's basically Devour 3? Well, it seems like it could get out of hand, but it doesn't have trample, so maybe not. Even so, it's EDH fodder, it seems. Awesome name though. Guess they're really pushing devour here.
I'm curious to see the other soon-to-be revealed cards.

Yes, that's the basic idea.
To sum it up for everyone, you just take the number of creatures devoured and multiply that number by itself. For example, if you devoured 3 creatures, the devour would be 3, so its 3x3=9, or a 9/9.
I do kinda agree with you. Also, its lack of evasion is semi-disappointing, but I knew when I saw "Devour X" he wasn't going to have evasion.
I guess a RG Voltron/Token deck with him as the General would be the route to go.
So we have a little under half on the new cards spoiled... and there is so far only one (well two I guess) that are of any interest to me; The wonderer and the Minotaur Wizard.
The rest are very very 'meh' to me. I know this isn't a commander based product, but I was seriously hoping the legendaries they rolled out at the least would have SOME flash and flair to them.

For the one saying that the Elf Fighting with Chandra is similar to Blood Elves from WOW...I SAY!!!
SO TRUE:
'Nathed! As soon as I saw the pic for Spatial Merging, I remember this blood elf lady image (It's an official image from the WoW TCG), I was going to post the blood elf here, but you beat me to it! It's way too similar to be a coincidence imo. Is Gabor Szikszai plagiarising in official Magic art, or is she and Gonzalo Ordóñez Arias really the same person (pretty unlikely :P)? >_>
I REALLY REALLY like Thromok. Awesome name, really cool ability. WHY DID I TRADE MY DOUBLING SEASON?! AAAAHHHHH. Whatever though, it looks like we're getting a cascade-filled 5-color deck, I'ma get that one. Looking good, Planechase 2012. Lookin' good. Me gusta most of this stuff. The 5-color deck will give me a lot of new, fun toys for Cromat EDH.
Minotaurs? With Etherium implants? And they're UR?
Are they from Reborn Alara or what?!?
Yeah, presumably. The Maelstrom Wanderer is from Alara, as is the Cascade mechanic, so it makes sense that at least some of the new cards in that deck have Alaran:cool2: flavor.
I'd honestly love to have a future block return to the new, united Alara and see how all the different cultures have mingled and evolved over time.

If I sacced 10 dudes to him, does that mean he gets Devour 10 which counts the 10 sacced making him a 100/100?
Also Doubling Season... disgusting with this guy and any Pandemonium-esque spells....

or
There is a 5 colour cascade deck in Planechase 2
