[IDW] Comic Book - Magic: The Gathering #4

I like the name, really. Reminds me of Dack Ralter from StarWars.

"Right now I feel like I could take on the whole empire myself!"

Destruction is more of a red thing. Now killing everyone to turn them into a zombie horde, that could be a black thing.

    True.

Do we know if any of these might have planeswalker or planeswalker associated cards?

Actually, Gideon is the name of an Archangel (or a Seraph, I'm not sure which).

As far as I remember he is neither, but rather a figure from the old testament. A devout rightous man who showed the Hebrews again not to worship idols (or something like that).

    Quote from Trancebam
Although I'll agree that "Dack Fayden" fits well in the "generic American hero type character" file. I still think Ral Zarek looks like a better character, and has a better name.

I agree in both points. They could have come up with something better in my humble opinion.
Hey guys, whoever is interested in getting behind the story of Magic: The Gathering, I'm currently selling all the books ever printed (including the old Harper books and some hard to find gems). Check it out here:

How would one go about preordering and from what places? I don't think my LGS is going to or is even interested in these.

Any store that sells comics will likely have a supplier they can order IDW comics from. They're a large enough publisher that just about every distributor stocks them, which means that just about every retailer can order in copies.

    Seems like lightbulb is right.

I also think that Dack's name sounds pretty similar to Star Wars characters.

    Another uninspiring art piece.

    Ugh. Agreed.

What is up with the style on these covers? It just isn't MTG typical art to me. They look like as though the people behind the scene wanted to try and redesign the look and feel of Magic, try and go after a different demographic or something.

Magic has such amazing artwork that captures the aesthetic and fantasy of the game. To come out with comic books of all things that have such terrible covers. I don't know how bad the artwork inside is going to be, but I doubt at this point it will be in the establish style of Magic.

WoTC posted some pages, uncolored, no text, from one of the books. That page was quite well done, and I'm looking forward to reading it. But I agree that the cover pages are extremely lackluster, with no concept of powerful composition. Has the artist ever seen a comic book cover before? A cover that offers no incentive to read the book is simply bad for business. I hope they rectify this later on; no shame in using full-card art imho.

It's not a rumor. It's not on next weeks ship list......if it doesn't appear on the list, it won't show up, comics are pretty consistent like that.

My local comic shop said its been delayed two weeks....so the 11th is the date we will probably see it.

I haven't seen any samples of the actual pages yet (got a link to that early uncolored peek?), but I am glad to hear that it appears the inside art is much more on par with Magic: The Gathering style and aesthetic.

I really wish those covers would look more like extraordinary card art; I really wish the cards that came with these comic books did not look like the covers.

WOTC could put £100 notes in packs and whiners would still whine and call everyone who was happy a fanboy.

I'm really excited for these. Does anyone know if they are available on the IDW Comixology store?

Try your local comic shop..most places can set up a folder to set aside new issues as they come in so you won't miss anything!

If you're in the UK then I'd recommend ACE Comics (http://acecomics.co.uk), been using them for years and they are top notch.

Can't put a personal recommendation of these but friends in the US have said they use Midtown Comics (http://www.midtowncomics.com) and Mile High Comics (http://www.milehighcomics.com) for their new books.

For the next issue, who knows? AFAIK, almost no-one's local comic shop is getting these when IDW says they'll come out. Your best bet is to find a comic shop local to you and ask there.

EDIT: Actually, I've only spoken to people in the UK about this, so maybe the releases are all going to schedule elsewhere.

It's been going mostly to schedule for me, at least. Issue #3 came out at about this time last month (give or take a week), so I'd expect to see #4 either this Wednesday or the next.

WTF! This whole thing has been so badly managed. First issue was released Feb. 1st, 2nd on Feb. 29th, 3rd on March 28th and the final one on May 16th? Not to mention it being delayed for 3 or 4 months. Hard to keep track of it and was a bit of a pain to get a hold of due to the local comic store being on the smaller side.
