The four new Planechase decks (Chaos Reigns, Night of the Ninja, Primordial Hunger, and Savage Auras) will contain all-new planar decks that contain a new kind of oversized card, and an assortment of new, Eternal-legal Magic cards.
Next, the new kind of oversized card. These are phenomenon cards (plural: phenomena) that represent the sort of perils that lurk between planes. Here's one now!
Each deck has eight new plane cards and two new phenomenon cards, and these cards are not shared between decks; there are a total of 32 new planes and 8 new phenomena.
Finally, there are brand new cards that are legal in Eternal formats. It's probably worth mentioning that there's a cycle of multicolored Legendary creatures. Like this one!
And speaking of multicolored Legendary creatures, we've been asked to mention that other Commander-specific products are on their way. That's all we can say! Now, back to Planechase.
There are a total of 21 new Magic cards in the set, spread across the four decks. Each deck has six of the cards (counting by name), although some appear in multiples.
Planechase (2012 Edition) comes out on June 1, 2012. Each of the four decks contains a sixty-card Magic deck, a ten-card planar deck, and a planar die. The MSRP for each deck is $19.99. This release will be available in English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, and Spanish.
Initial Concept and Game Design: Mark Globus (lead), Kelly Digges, Dave Guskin, and Ryan Miller
Final Game Design and Deck Development: Mark L. Gottlieb (lead), Ryan Miller, Lee Sharpe, and Ken Troop, with contributions from Matt Tabak
I once farted during the final match for prizes at an FNM. It was a tense moment, everything was quiet, control vs control, I was about to mana leak, thought about it.. and farted. Then mana leaked.
YES. That legend is instantly my favorite commander in those colors.
It's amusing to think about how many of these will be sold in my area versus how many games of planechase will actually occur, solely because of the new cards.
Very nice. We don't often play Planechase, but when we do, we often play it with our EDH decks. The fact that they're also including a few new multicolored legends along with new Planechase cards will make our games of Planechase EDH that much more fun and derpy and stuff.

WU Near-Death Experience (Casual multiplayer) B Vintage Illegal Discard (When I want to be a jerk) GW Allies (Casual) URG Defenders (Crappy Standard) RWU Affinity (Modern)
That new legend that cascades twice seems absolutely disgusting a general in EDH.
Phenomenon's seem pretty interesting. I know the one they spoiled makes sense in a twisted sort've way since planeswalking can be potentially wonky or something.
Overall, quite excited for this set though. I like planechase a lot.

"Yawgmoth," Freyalise whispered as she set the bomb, "now you will pay for your treachery."
I was just getting ready to pick up a stack of Planar cards for my casual playgroup to kind of mix things up. Seeing that they haven't completely dropped it just cements that. I'm honestly genuinely looking forward to this.
On-topic: looking forward to it, Planechase always seemed neat but I wasn't around when the first batch of sets came out. I wonder if this means there'll be a three-year cycle of Planechase, Archenemy, Commander?
Though I suppose there needs to be room for that Cube thing, and they wouldn't hint at new Commander decks before new Archenemy decks.
Basically, if you want to open packs to get cards for Standard and Modern, the simpler approach is to just buy all the singles you need and then set some money on fire to make up the difference.

They mentioned new, eternal legal cards that were in the original planechase packs but I thought all four decks were 100% reprints. Am I missing something or was that a typo?
Edit: disregard this question. I read the announcement wrong and I thought they were talking about the old planechase stuff when they mentioned new cards.
This sounds like fun. Probably lots of bouncing, instant speed shenanigans, and hopefully a card that gives all of your creatures the ninja ability. I'm hoping for a new ninja legend too. The deck might be blue, black, and... green? Do you think they'll push the wedge colors some more?

Holy crap that creature is AMAZING. I don't know if I want to just throw it in my Animar deck or make it my new general.
I'm very excited about this, I cannot wait! Releasing new cards like this was the best idea Wizards has had in a long time. They get to print so many fun cards that could never be printed in a normal expansion.

There are no reprints there making a whole new set of planechase
Also that Maelstorm Wanderer is going to be crazy swingy. I could cascade into a preordain, lightning bolt or into Karn Liberated, Jace TMS
Wow, that body, that cascade cost, that mana cost. It's two cascades, on top of being a universal haste effect? WOW!
Wait, this ISN"T Commander2.0? Really? Way to get my hopes up, then throw it to the ground and smash it.
Still, I live planechase to an extent. It's not Archenemy(ugh), but they always are good to play with newer players, who doesn't care too much.
Also, one note, if they keep making these new cards that are only useful for casual play, I'm digging them. I like how they say, "look, I know we make cards that don't really appeal to everyone's interest. But hey, if it makes you feel any better, have some toys to play with."

Ha! That's a good one.
If I'm assuming correctly, Phenomenon are basically one-shot planes, right? Would you reveal a plane directly afterwards?
I just remember someone saying and I can't help but giggle.

Even with the Commander legends, would always enjoy more of them, as they are in some of the most awesome color combinations (RUG, BUG, WUR).
I literally lol'd.

That cube thing was confirmed to be a MODO only thing. I should know, I was the one who took the time to look at the actual filing.
Anyway, should be interesting to see what other cards this brings us, and if any become legacy playable like flusterstorm and scavanging ooze did.

Seriously, that legend is INSANE. RUG always gets the best stuff.
