My point is that this is all well and good when the cards in question are cheap uncommons. But I will certainly think twice before investing in playsets of $20-30+ rares and mythics once the ban-happiness starts to hit more and more chase cards... and I'm pretty sure I'm not alone.
Dangerous territory for a company that makes a collectible product.
Nah, not really. Just becuase its "collectible" doesn't mean it is (or even should be) a "high value collectible."
People who buy magic cards hoping to use it as an investment willingly take that risk.
Yes, it sucks if you pay 30$/card for a playset of some "chase" piece of cardboard with pretty ink. If/when that cardboard loses value it is your own problem.
I would like to think that wizards develop cards such as lingering souls to shine accross multiple formats and not just block.
This is why i have no problem with it being printed. Yes if you play Block and love Intanigble Virture and LS then it sucks, but im sure they dont do it intentially.
Secondly for it to be stupidly overpowerd it would need its Mana Cost and Flashback cost to be switched around - turn 2 make two dudes, flashback turn 3.
By making it 3 then 2, its not as nutty as some people are suggesting.
Just to note, that last statement is not categorically true. Spell snare says hi.

Because Wizards has created and supports tournaments and competitions that require thesecards to compete, they bear some of the responsibility for keeping that environment fair. It is unethical to create cards that drive the craze to buy packs/boxes, and then remove these cards from competition.
They have indirectly accepted responsibility by traditionally banning lower-valued cards first, even while the biggest offenders remained untouched.
I would just like to see Wizards do their homework a little better.

Choose one - Equipped creature gets +4/+0; or Double Strike; or "When this creature deals combat damage to a creature, exile that creature"; or t, unattach ~ from this creature: ~ deals 5 damage to target creature." t: Equipped creature gains flying until end of turn.

Spell Snare also 'kills' Goyf, Bob and a myriad of other key 2 mana drops in legacy. Let's see LS do that...for U.
You completely missed the point. He made the reference to spell snare because the mana-cost/flashback cost is part of what makes lingering souls legacy-playable. Even when you flashback souls, spell snare can't hit it due to it's converted mana cost.
