I wouldn't be surprised if Lingering Souls is banned instead. Or both are. Getting rid of Intangible Virtue helps a little, but all it does it really make Curse of Death's Hold viable again. So everyone has to play black?
Another card that might be on the chopping block is Huntermaster at least in block constructed. Giving a werewolf 4 abilities was just insane. And he is non-legendary? Every block deck is either Lingering Souls or Huntmaster of the Fells at the moment.
I play a lot of block constructed and the problem is definitely intangible virtue and not lingering souls or hell rider. Taking out one creature isn't too challenging. A bunch of 1/1's isn't bad either. You can still build your own board around that. But when those 1/1 become 2/2 AND have vigilance its near impossible to overcome that.
Let's say your opponent plays lingering souls turn three and attacks turn 4 for 2 points of damage. Then he flashbacks lingering souls for a turn 5 swing of 4 points of damage. That's only 6 points of damage and his creatures are tapped.
With intangible virtue that damaged has doubled to 12 points, plus he's got defenders to prevent any return attack. It's insanely good.
Ray of Revelation (2 for 1)
Urgent Exorcism
Naturalize
Silverchase Fox
That doesn't even include Curse O' DH, Sever the Bloodline, Sudden Disappearance as indirect answers.
Intangible Virtue is a key card in the deck, but the deck will simply shift to an even more aggressive package with Reckless Waif, Thalia, Cloistered Youth, Mikaeus, etc.
More angry dudes, more Hellrider ownage. This banning would only make him better for the next month and a half.
I guess if there's some decent instant speed removal or bounce in AVR we should be fine.
One card that's not seeing play at the moment, simply because blue isn't viable (no enchantment removal, no wrath effects), is griptide. It's a relatively effective instant-speed answer to hellrider though, and blue has quite a few things it can do at instant-speed with 4 mana, so leaving up mana wouldn't have to be a wash if they don't play it. I agree that if intangible virtue is banned, boros w/hellrider will probably be the next best deck, but hellrider has more answers in more colors than IV imo. I think the loss of the requirement to play white for enchantment removal will open the way for some more archetypes that aren't played now because they fold to anything with intangible virtue.

Good post... I agree it could possibly help colors like Blue see the light of day, whereas they can't handle enchantments and are often too slow to keep up regardless.
I think bounce cards should be prevalent in all formats (Into the Roil was amazing yet incredibly fair). Griptide could be decent if Blue had some cheaper playables to help hold down the fort before T4.
Yeah I think the RC has updated their list the same day as wotc for at least the past few months. wotc's will be exactly at midnight though and the edh list might not be until morning.
i completely disagree about griptide being playable in block...it isn't an answer to hellrider because you're using your entire turn to bounce the hellrider they play on their turn...how does that help you when they simply replay it on the very next turn? sure they lose a draw-step, but that's not exactly what i want to do with my entire turn 4 when the R/W aggro deck already has 5 creatures on the board. plus you still need an answer for hellrider on turn 5.
i would give you dissipate as an answer to hellrider, but not griptide. blue will need a 1-mana instant speed bounce spell in the next set for a better answer (or a blue spell that kills red permanents).
Thing is w/out Virtue, Lingering Souls can be controlled with everything down to Geistflame. Personally I would like to see a 1/4 flying wall.

Out of the blackness and stench of the engulfing swamp emerged a shimmering figure. Only the splattered armor and ichor-stained sword hinted at the unfathomable evil the knight had just laid waste.

I think people might be glad blue isn't dominating another format. Let's keep it that way.
I don't know about everyone else but it always felt like Lingering Souls was the dangerous card to me. Intangible Virtue was fine in block for months, it's not the broken one. With just Sorin, I don't think IV would be very dangerous and tokens was built around Lingering Souls and Hellrider. If they removed LS, I think :symwr:'s dominance will be shaken and we might have a more deverse format.

I was talking about Block. I referred to the SCG events to illustrate the point that the card is clearly the _power_ card of the two (Virtue, Souls).

Sure, but the Commander Rules committee takes care of that, not the DCI. They usually make announcements on the same day though IIRC.

I always thought Ratchet bomb would be good for tokens, but nobody uses it. Why not?
(I don't use it because tokens were never a problem for me)

Yeah but it isn't in block with tokens and IV
