All that we can gather from the picture is that it seems like Intangible Virtue is going to be banned, and there's probably more coming from Avacyn to produce tokens. Lingering Souls is 5 mana for 5 bodies which is pretty awesome, but making it so they aren't 5 2/2 flying vigilance bodies is a good move, especially so that people aren't running enchantment hate solely for IV.
It's going to be banned in block, you heard it hear first. Otherwise, PT Barcelona will have the field be 80% tokens from the pro's testing they will deem it the best deck, especially since Avacyn Restored is very likely going to have some sweet card for tokens whether it's another token maker or some great enabler.

Unfortunately, I'm still not betting on AVR having awesome token-making tech. As a BW Tokens player in Modern, I'd love them to, but sadly, I can't even see Wizards releasing a 3 cmc enchantment that says, "At the beginning of your upkeep, put a 1/1 white Human creature token onto the battlefield." They've printed Goblin Assault, Awakening Zone, and Thraben Doomsayer, but Awakening Zone's tokens have zero power, Goblin Assault's tokens are forced to attack and probably kill themselves every turn, and Thraben Doomsayer dies to creature removal.
Now Bitterblossom being unbanned in Modern--that would be tech. Unfortunately, they'd probably stick Bitterblossom on the front instead if that were the case.
I'm speculating AVR just might make RW Tokens a deck, though. I predict that the RW funland (same cycle as Vault of the Archangel) will have a Contested War Zone-like effect for more mana (and not having to get stolen). (Then again, I'm predicting that the UR funland will say, "Return target creature to its owner's hand unless its controller pays 2" and the UG funland will be Modern-unplayable, and I just might be wrong...)
well a vey viable deck in the set is tokens woth sorin and his emblems, this card gives tokens a bigger body as well as the ability to attack and block which is great
banworthy? maybe there are so many spirit creating instants as well as human creating instants. Maybe there will be a card in the next set that will make the card more powerful or there is a better token generator they dont wanna give vigalence to. Who knows?
if im thinking correctly there are now 4 maybe 5 instants in this block alone that make either spirits of humans lingering spirits, gather townsfolk, midnight haunting, increasing ambition (sorcery)
also card like thraben doomsayer and essence of the wild thats scary with vigalance also with parralel lives.
really its just to slow down the token decks because they run too well in the block and i really think intangible virtue should have been a rare maybe or just not come out in the first set because it really is a very powerful card.

Yeah, I predict they're likely banning Intangible Virtue in Block Constructed to stop the W/x Tokens bleeding now. (I did look at those Block Constructed Dailies. More than half the decks are W/x Tokens. The others look like Sweeper Jund and UB Zombies, neither of which are that popular.) They're probably doing it even if AVR has no tokens goodies.

We know nothing about avacyn restored besides the fact that there are angels in the set (not a big surprise). It could give tokens a gigantic power booster, it could do nothing, or it could put it to the brink of being overpowered so they're pre emptively banning intangible virtue based on some card unknown to us as of yet.
And an enchantment that makes a 1/1 human vanilla every upkeep for 1WW or even 2W would be a very fair card and far below the curve of what tokens can do currently. Sure it would be in the SB as anti sweeper tech, but that's just it it wouldn't be maindeckable currently due to power creep.
Also, what would making intangible virtue a rare have accomplished? It would be a $3 card versus a 25 cent card. Rarity means NOTHING in constructed, you play the best cards possible regardless of monetary cost. And it would be another niche rare card that you would not like to open in limited unless you already have a token theme going on.

Lingering Souls is the problem. That card is flat out broken. It's better than both Bitterblossom, Spectral Procession, and Squadron Hawk, and we know how insane those cards were.

I once farted during the final match for prizes at an FNM. It was a tense moment, everything was quiet, control vs control, I was about to mana leak, thought about it.. and farted. Then mana leaked.
To be fair, the last legacy GP was won by Esper Stoneblade with Souls, not Blossom... You get your bodies quicker and don't lose life at the cost of more mana and less overall power over time. It's a judgment call.
Oh, I thought he was talking about playing a spell that is countering a spell with counters on it as it comes into play, but I see you guys were just discussing whether he was flashing a creature with flash in order to flash a flashback or just flashing a creature with flash but not needing flash in order to flashback a spell without flash.
They didn't ban Elspeth, Knight Errant in Alara block constructed, where in a t8 there were 30 elspeth's because 2 decks were running 3 of them. Maybe it'll get banned, but block constructed is block constructed. WotC doesn't attempt to balance it like they do Standard or Modern.

I think there may be a bit of a change in their philosophy with this in that they'll use the Pro Tour more to get people excited about Magic and the brand itself. Three days of Tempered Steel mirror matches is less likely to get someone into magic compared to a very diverse metagame that the pros actually enjoy playing.
I'd say that they wait until the third set is released to ban it in block, They should restrict life from the loam in modern, doesn't mean I'm right, it's just my opinion.

The next banning announcement is June, well after PT Avacyn Restored. As it is, there's only a week between the release of Avacyn Restored and the PT.

The only good thing about this post is the edible chocolate roaches they gave out! Mmm mmm!

Wait a minute, edible roaches don't crawl! EDIBLE ROACHES DON'T CRAWL!
This card was oppressive if you ever played "real" (old) magic. It was everywhere. You played it or you hated it.
The same applies here for many reasons.
1. The cost is important. 1W is very different than WW. If intangible virtue was WW, it wouldn't be played as much.
2. Vigilance is also important. You can go on the offensive and still maintain your board state. Remember interactivity? That's why you tap to attack. You have to choose, attack and leave myself open, or defend. Vigilance breaks that. People thought Serra Angel was OP back in the day. Why? Vigilance.
3. IMO, the tokens clause seems at first to be a drawback. But the more you look at it, it just really doesnt even matter at all. You obviously build towards it and it just reaches a point where it might as well say, "Creatures you control get +1/+1 and vigilance." Really.
The reason this card is getting banned isn't because it's blatanly OP like Jace. It's getting banned because it's just straight over the curve and provides just a little more power than it should for its cost, Just like like Wild Nacatl. It won't break standard, but it will sure as hell warp Block Constructed. I don't even play block constructed and I can totally see this justified.
It will be banned in block constructed
Think of it like this.
another example is if you remember how huge tempered steel was to scars block constructed
If they're looking to diversify deck types,
banning Grafdigger's Cage wouldn't hurt.
How many new, potential tier 1 decks have never even been attempted
simply because they know a very easy answer can shut them down completely,
whether it is currently seeing much play or not?
Wishful thinking, I know- but I can dream, can't I?

This just (if its true) solidifies my opinion that they should reprint old-school hard-hate cards like Chill or Karma, I know its opressive but from my eyes and how the meta shapes up at my store(random as everything), it seem like todays silver-bullets are just spread to cover alot and end up doing nothing, yes Ray of Revelation is in DA but even that does not do enough its likely War Priest of Thune would have been better if only because its a hitter thats a 2/2 that needs two 1/1 tokens to be killed. Basically I say its a good move if its banned anywhere.

It's not oppressive at all. It's color hate, and it's actually a legitimate way to hose certain archetypes when other archetypes like RDW or UB Zombies don't have access to certain forms of hate like enchantment or artifact removal.

Which makes players think "should I splash green for Naturalize", which is what I would like standard to be one day, do you stick to putting all your eggs in one basket or do you prepare an anwser to your opponents anwsers and sacrifice some power? , its what I felt standard magic should be but thats me.
Note: When it comes to token hate all I can think of is Leyline of Singularity, I really cant think of a card that makes having alot of tokens feel so bad.

My T&N deck was meta'd hardcore back in Mirrodin\Kamigawa standard. I had a swamp and Cranial Extractions in the SB to exile their Sowing Salts or whatever they would bring into game 2. So much fun.
It's still like that as far as I know. At FNM anyway where you know what everyone plays. It's not like this isn't practiced anymore.
