The problem with this card, which could have been great for RDW or burn, is that by the time it comes out, either of those decks should have killed you already.
It just costs too much to be of any use in standard. It might be somewhat useful in limited but even that is debatable.
Crap rare. Unplayable in standard and limited. Probably good in EDH, as apparently all cards are.
No it's not a crap rare it's really good in a burning vengence deck. double the power a souce would deal to player. it's a two of in the deck but really scary if it lands. in a controle deck like burning vengence it kill's.
so it's not a crap card. so you are wrong sir. Also titans and some really good cards cost more then 5 like inferno titan cost 4RR or any other card people play with that cost 6 or more mana. grave titan or suntitan.
Eh, the more interesting removal card in the pack was Tragic Slip. So far, par for the course. The curse is alright in casual, but too limited for EDH... I guess the dude is alright for turning on morbid, but its too picky in what it takes.
This curse will be awesome with Shrine of Burning Rage. That's the best use I see for it, but it seems good enough. Drop an early Rage, control the game for a bit, drop this curse later, instantly kill opponent. Good times.
Taking 8 damage for a single Mirran Crusader's attack(or any other creature with Double Strike) is a huge big deal. A little expensive, but, fun in limited
For those who are mentioning EDH implications... I don't really like curses for EDH. It makes killing 1 player easier but then it goes away. I do use Curse of the Stalked Prey in a Proliferate Vampire deck but at least the +1/+1 counters stay on my creatures.
First a one-sided Night of Soul's Betrayal, now a one-sided Furnace of Rath? I think I'm in love. If only I could get enough mana out to put it in my burn deck...

Eh, no... It is not that 5 mana spells are too expensive for competitive play, but it is way too much for a card that does nothing on its own. It's jank.
I mean, it's just frustrating because it's obvious that R&D team KNOWS that this is not good for serious constructed when they design this. However, the effect is strong and could warrant building around if it was simply better balanced and costed less. This common theme for these type of cards of costing 1.5 mana too much is seriously frustrating.
There's no real reason for this not to cost 4. Appeal to casuals is the same yet it MIGHT see play in constructed. I don't see a reason to limit available brewing card pool by making these type of cards clearly unplayable.
Maybe they couldn't make it strictly better than Furnace of Rath?

I think that better comparison is Gratuitous Violence. They are similar. Gratuitous Violence doubles damage to creatures as well (and is better in multiplayer), while Curse of Bloodletting doubles even damage from noncreature sources (like burn), but only to the affected player. Each of them is better than the other in some aspect.

burning vengence thats all i'll say. devils play. sorins vengence. titans things that hit and hit hard. thats why it's a 2 of. i proxed it and it works fine in my controle deck that has burning vengence as a second win con.
i'll side board it out against faster paced decks. like U/W humans U/W delver and humans. i might also side board it out against wolf run.
still not jank. and there's alot of cards that can support it. and it's any source of damage.
i see a combo with that devil and this card also inferno titan swings for and hit's you for 6 then 12 if unblocked or more.
also it wasn't ment for doing things on it's own it's ment to be used with other cards.
