i feel like ooze is broken as hell in standard. just wait till dismember rotates out. even now, he's really good. but later..... jeez. many decks can almost do nothing to stop him. and he gets bigger every turn.
Hellrider, meet a very interested Red player. You will be my new best friend, and I will you name you squishy, and you will be my squishy.
YES!!! That is the second time i have heard that refrence today....:)
Besides that...that cage is sick...i mean it is brutal!!! I like...though i hate to see the face of any reanimator/dredge players when someone playes it...spacifically on turn one!!!

Wield your heart, and the world will tremble!!!-Doran, the Siege Tower BWG
The effect could prove so discombobulating to combo players, in particularly, they may fizzle and run away screaming. "From that day the Curse of the Plateau was upon me, and I found every hand I ever pull from a combo deck is a mulligan."

People are aware that nowhere on the cage is the word "indestructible," right?
It's a matter of the how impactful the card is and how easily it drops. Also, because it's an artifact, it's considerably more difficult to remove than, as an example, the aforementioned "cagebear" thing. Having to waste a card on it is annoying enough, but moreover it puts a sizable dent in the strategy and tempo of a decent portion of the format (or at least everyone who's trying to squeeze snapcaster in somewhere). It also hoses the new Lich, who given the chance to shine will probably generate some competitive decks.
One can easily enough say it's a way to equalize the format against broken gy and library retrieval strategies, but IMO at maybe 2 mana this card would've felt more fair, and less like a "COP: Decks who use Flashback" you can drop before they can counter it (aside from Mental Misstep, which I'm tempted to start playing more in the SB).
Hey mods, any chance we could split this thread to discuss the other previews, since nobody is talking about them with the 400 lb gorilla in the room? I know is not normal protocol, but that ooze and gargoyle are fun little dudes, but I don't think I've seen a single post talking about the 'goyle yet.
Eh, probably should have said this an hour ago, nevermind I guess
New thread for 'everything but cage' would be nice though =/
I think what bothers me about this card is the fact that, it's shutting down a lot of rather expensive decks. And like several people here have lamented, they were in the middle of making said decks. It just seems kinda sad that someone would dump $XXX into a pod or a dredge deck (I only play limited, i dont really know what the prizings of these are), and one 7$ card is going to shut it down. -shrugs-
EDIT: I love the ooze. Green having fun being green. What happens if you dont draw a dismember in the first several turns and it becomes a 6+/6+? Does it die to dismember?

I fear I won't have much time to play Magic these days.
I get to watch worlds develop around me.
I get to watch great leaders, terrible oppressors, and trend setters rise and fall.
Limited, Standard, Modern, everything is a different playing field I feel I can observe, but will not actually touch.
I look forward to the stories I will hear.
And more so to the ones I will watch unfold first hand.
Isn't the unknown exciting?

Deadly Allure- Eh, a miss in most Black aggro decks, but I can see where this MIGHT be useful. In limited, a good pick. Outside of limited, maybe a late game surprise.. Nothing more.
Predator Ooze- Now I'm officially scared to stare this down. It doesn't die from convention method (Though, we have to bring up the Dismember test) and it gets pumped by just attacking and killing... This SHOULD be mythic... But since it's rare, expect people to grab at this one... Sorin/Ooze for chasers so far.
Feed the Pack- I would be concerned about the mana cost, but thanks to "Little Red Riding Wolf", this is a potential threat if left unchecked. A very good combo card with nasty, nasty tricks that the wolves can get at...
Warden of the Wall- A creature on opponent's turn and it comes into play tapped. A wasted slot but, a potential blocker is always nice to see. Just not like this.. NEXT!
Grafdigger's Cage- You knew it was coming and now, THE ANTIGRAVE CAGE!!!! 1 and that it and until someone draws an answer, you're protected from graves and library surprises... ANOTHER CARD THAT SHOULD BE MYTHIC... Also, this will change everything in Modern, Legacy, and Vintage.. WoTC, WTF did you unleash to the public!???
Hellrider- This card can end games with the right motivation. I see this in Modern with Goblins, in Legacy with Goblins, and in Vintage, with Goblins. Limited and Constructed, Wolves, maybe chea Vamps.... Again, a good card that can quickly end things...
Way to hose almost everything that's not about bashing with hordes of small creatures. It's the biggest mistake since Mental Misstep and probably even worse than that.

Aggro's been dealing with wrath for 20+ years. GY themed decks will figure out how to survive this.
Anyone else notice that the cage says "or Libraries" ....now- If I recall there is a single card that you can cast from your library which is Panglacial Wurm... Now I don't think it'll get reprinted and I dont think that a card like this would be printed to simply prevent some casual player to cast their Panglacial Wurm.... So does this mean we'll likely see cards like the wurm?!
Cage singlehandedly destroyed a perfectly balanced block metagame before it even saw the light of day. It single-handedly destroys any creativity in standard, which now is filled with blue aggro decks.
Even if this card was 2 or 3 mana, its existence makes every matchup a coin-flip if they have it in the sideboard or not, like any dredge player gambles on.
Print this card sometime else, after we've had our fun with the block.
Is there any chance that clearer heads prevail and this card gets axed before launch? Or is this all printed and mailed already?
As tons of people have said, you board in Naturalize effects game 2. It's not hard to figure out. And Mental Misstep alters the Legacy landscape WAY more than this card.
Yep... Hero of Oxid Ridge will have a new partner in crime what I really like is the change to actually kill your opponent with just attacking with your creatures.
Aggro's been dealing with wrath for 20+ years. GY themed decks will figure out how to survive this.
Exactly. Decks have to fight through hate, that's how it works. Besides which aren't most gy decks in standard packing Ancient Grudge anyway. Not nearly as big a deal as people are making of it.
Ooze is definitely a card to watch after rotation once Snag and Dismember leave. Still eats O rings and has a restrictive mana cost. In the meantime, Lumberknot is probably on an equal power-level.
Hellrider is essentially Oxid Ridge power-wise, better or worse depending on the matchup.
Cage makes me want Missteps SB in my Snapcaster decks.
This second-up set feels disappointing. It reminds me of other second up sets: Darksteel, Betrayers, Guildpact.. One or two chase rares, and the rest are uninspired/clunky.
I don't think I'll be purchasing any DA boxes/boosters. I'll just wait to pick through the set when the rares fizzle and hit 0.25-1.00 online.
Also wow Grafdigger's Cage... someone really hates Ichorid. And Snapcaster. And Birthing Pod. And Reanimate. This is going into a lot of sideboards, I think.
Hey, on a totally random note, has anyone else noticed how HIGH black's mana curve is so far in this set? we have ghoulcrawler, the sorcery, and WHOA 5+ everything else? Why so heavy? How does limited black protect itself from green and white so far?

There are plenty of cards that let you cast from library: Future Sight, Magus of Future Sight, (I forget the actual name) Djinn of Wishes. Anyone remember the name of the card where you shuffle your library then reveal the top card and cast it? It's not good anymore but it used to be in several top decks like a decade ago.
Also wow Grafdigger's Cage... someone really hates Ichorid. And Snapcaster. And Birthing Pod. And Reanimate. This is going into a lot of sideboards, I think.
If you're havin flashback problems I feel bad for you son, I got 99 creatures but Snapcaster ain't one!

And about the lil' artifact... me gusta:D
Wrath was (almost) always in 1 color at 4 CMC as a one-time sorcery speed hit.
This is like a moat that costs 1
No it don't =/

...I've never heard of a card called "trinket".
Except for trinket mage.
There's "tinker". But that's a sorcery.

P.S.
On the bright side, maybe the existence of this card will cut the price tag on Havengul Lich. TwT
