Considering the titans would be properly on the curve if they cost 8, I certainly hope not.
I wish WOTC would stop undercosting cards by at least two when they make them money chase cards. The best T2 formats didn't really have all that many severely undercosted cards.
I don't mean to tangent, but what was the reason given for Titans only costing 6 in the first place?
They're planning to introduce a new super-mythic rarity and reprint the Titans, but only costing four this time. This is because Wizards' accounts department research found that there is still room for some power creep in creatures, and magic design is a pendulum that swings in certain ways but which always swings back, or something.
... and make it foil only, and printed only with the foil sheet lol.
Anyways, to be honest I think it's gonna be a Johnny set. With their new focus on casual play I can see them celebrating 20 years by trying to make a set with all kinds of explosions, giant monsters and over the top effects from the history of the game. They also want to simplify standard play so a linear set with lots of bombs makes more sense.
I think you just called Timmy 'Johnny'.
- Timmy likes the big dragon going RAAARRR versus other dragons!
- Spike likes the dragon hitting somebody for lethal.
- Johnny looks to see if the dragon combos with Mycosynth Lattice, Wild Pair or Freed from the Real.
- Vorthos just looks at the art. All day.
The return of ante (where legal). 20 new ante cards.
Each day 20 cards from the set are randomly chosen to receive major functional errata.
Many mandatory triggers are now optional at certain tournaments.
White cards use the blue frame, blue cards use the black frame, black cards use the red frame, red cards use the green frame, green cards use the green frame, and artifacts use the white frame.
In a belated response to the criticism, the return of pre-sixth edition rules.
Seriously, though, this may be a sign that they think their effort to simplify the game has gone far enough and that it's time for things to get a bit more complicated. So we may see more than one returning keyword and maybe even a new one. They may start doing some things in m13 that have been previously limited to expansions (common artifacts, legends, multicolor, etc.).
They are going to eliminate the stack and replace it with magic happy time fun land. Cards will no longer interact with each others and counter spells will now counter the next card played instead of the previous one

They had Legends in 10th Edition, was there some big fanfare about their absense in M10 that I missed? If not, I wouldn't say that Legends are necessarily considered too complicated for the Core Set, just that they haven't seen cause to print any.
I'm not sure, but what was the challenge in M12? I remember drafting it a couple of times, but I never fancied the core sets that much. In my case the challenge was to like the set, although I did enjoy the two new dragons it had.

yup, meant Timmy. Honestly I was just trying to get rid of the nerdrage arguments over dates and superior dating conventions and change topic to the theme of the set. You know, starve the trolls by changing the topic.
Patrick Chapin noted that the new frames were at the 10 year, so maybe M13 will have Future Sight frames?
i hope they do something like this, i really like the fs frames.
my idea that i got from almost no info other than the silver logo, was that maybe this will be the set where they reprint oodles of legacy staple uncommons, i.e. force of will, wasteland, etc.
I'm going on record right now and stating that before the end of 2012 we will see foil dual lands in booster packs (The real, Alpha dual lands). You can quote me on that.
I'm not sure, but what was the challenge in M12? I remember drafting it a couple of times, but I never fancied the core sets that much. In my case the challenge was to like the set, although I did enjoy the two new dragons it had.
I agree. The only challenge with a core set is to get excited about a core set.
Why do people get so excited about core set releases?
Magic 2012 had 234 cards in the set.
Only 95 of them were never printed before.
That doesn't even amount to a small expansion set.
I can understand if you're brand new to the game and have no cards at all. A core set becomes a big deal. That is where you get most of your standard staples such as mana leak, incinerate, doom blade, etc.
But if you've been playing this game, even for just a few years, most of these cards you have already.
Personally, I hate core set releases. I'm getting to the point where I'm just going to buy the new rares that I need off of Ebay and pay 10 cents a common at my friends store for the new commons that I might find are playable. It just doesn't pay to spend money on a core set (boxes or packs) when over 50% of the cards you get you already have.
Am I the only one who feels this way?
Anyway, getting back on topic, the titans will assuredly be gone. I don't think I've ever seen cards of that power last for more than two printings, though I could be wrong.
What will take their place? Who knows?
But...I do know this much. When Dismember rotates out of standard with the first expansion after AVR, a lot of 5/5s are all of a sudden going to become very playable again. That is what I am essentially looking to see in M13.
I guess only time will tell. It would sure be a welcome change from the titan wars that we're having now.
Why do people get so excited about core set releases?
Despite the ridiculous amount of product being printed by Wizards, people seem to get rabidly excited over just about anything. Personally, I can't understand people getting excited about things like Duel Decks or Intro Packs, both of which to me are just people giving their money over for, essentially, commons.

Personally, I hate the fact that 95 of them were never printed before. They are printing too many cards! I'm beginning to have a real problem with just how much I am expected to buy.
I wish the Core Set was just that: A Stable, relatively constant Core of the game. Sure, it gets updated every couple years when the packs sell out and tweaks and adjustments need to be made. Sure, some new cards like titans can be rolled out and then quickly swept under the rug, but the idea that every single year I need to buy from the NEW CORE SET is getting both dizzying and greedy.
"Sorry! That mythic rare Planeswalker you got only lasted 9 months. We're reprinting the same character, but with a different last name and very slightly different powers. Your card is now worthless."
The core set should be more stable, more reliable, and see fewer updates.

I agree. Of course I think that's pretty much how it was in the old days but I may be suffering from selective memory. All I know is this. I don't think there was a lot of difference between Revised and 4th Edition other than the dual lands being taken out and a few other cards. Certainly there weren't 95 new cards in 4th.
So I've seen it brought up a few times, but would anyone happen to have a link/copy of the leaked video that was taken down? Never got a chance to see it. Thanks!
That's the way I remember things back in the old days. Now, a core set is less cord and more stuff you have to buy and end up getting a bunch of stuff you already have.

Also, Wizards hates Johhny. Laboratory Maniac isn't fun, you WotC b********!
Imagine this scenario. "Yeah, um we felt bad that we screwed you over with no DFCs for AVR so we will print double FACE cards for M13".
Patrick Chapin noted that the new frames were at the 10 year, so maybe M13 will have Future Sight frames?
