I'm bored so so I'll speculate bit. That last image is Griselbrand or a high level "baddie" that is responsible for cutting off Avacyn from the people.
This article made me too eager for this set. I demand spoilers!
Also the "3rd, anonymous Planeswalker" is clearly Sorin and Fayden Dack or whatever his name is. The way the paragraph is worded makes me think he will actually side with humanity.

Or if not "with" humanity, at least against the baddies. Probably his grandfather, specifically, since they keep hinting that Edgar Markov is important to the story.
Is it possible that Sorin and Avacyn knew one another personally at some point?

Number 4 isn't someone generic, or "just a reanimation spell". He's a Cathar, as we can tell from his monument. He's also a DAMN GOOD Cathar, probably a Saint (people get sanctified before death on Innistrad, remember Traft?) since his monument got angelic wings, and a Collared Sword.
I'm betting on a Legendary creature. Can anyone say "Corpse of Saint Traft"? Battle of epic proportions incoming.

well, last year the promo cards came out right about now. the next week the mechanics article came out. finally, the next week, two weeks before the release, spoilers started. so new cards should be about 1 week away.

Now THAT is a cool idea. A sentient spirit fighting against his own re-animated body... Too cool.
I don't really believe that is going to happen, but I think it would be cool and I agree with your logic.

"The humans now face a dark new twist in the fight against the fiends. It's not just that the wards and prayers no longer bind these creatures. Now even the bonds of death no longer hold. Apparently slain werewolves have begun to stagger back to their feet, their hunger only renewed by their seeming destruction."
Sounds a lot like Unearth. Could be anything, I suppose, sounds like Persist too, but Unearth would fit the mill-yourself mechanical theme quite well.
Do they ever have more than 1 returning mechanic per block? (not counting Time Spiral)?
It could also mean that we are seeing some bleeding of the creature types. Could "Werewolf Zombie" fit on a type line?

"Finally, there is another planeswalker whose presence will impact—and already has extensively impacted—the tale of Innistrad. His past is woven with the history of this world, and his return after an extended absence will uncover long-buried secrets. Although his humanity was cast off long ago, his purpose on Innistrad will reveal surprising allegiances. His identity is secret for now, but we will learn what role he has to play in the fate of Innistrad very soon."
They do know they're fooling even less people than when they tried to tell us the the mirrans might win the war right?
Just because the spirit has a tri-cornered hat, doesn't automatically make him a pirate. That hat has been part of the attire of the militia.
I'm all about pirates, so I am not getting my hopes up. Throw in a wooden leg, an eyepatch or even a parrot and I might bite.
The last pic seems to allude to a planeswalker...interesting. The art reminds me slightly of Necropotence.
I wish Lim-Dul would get the Nicol Bolas treatment and become a planeswalker. He was kind of an urban legend for years, then they made that crappy card for him. :/
Um... lots of things. Lots, and lots, and lots of things. That's kind of the point of the article.
Well, I know that.
What im trying to say is, "who is evil that would fit that picture?" My line of reasoning is that necro-alchemist Ludevic is the best canidate for that if the skeleton guy is a key figure. But for all I know, it could be a reprint of Drudge Skeleton

Or it's a non-legendary creature without a specific name.
Ludevic is an alchemist, he has nothing to do with the sort of magic that would involve becoming a lich. His associated cards are a mutant lizard-monster and a skaab, not anything to do with black mana or becoming a zombie himself.
You're looking for a named character who would have something to do with lich-related magic? Then there's Gisa. She's a ghoulcaller, meaning she actually uses black mana to raise her zombie minions, rather than science/alchemy/blue mana. But it still is far, far more likely that this particular piece of art is just a non-legendary creature.
I love all of the new artwork. The thing that puzzles me is trying to figure out if the card is a creature or not. It seams that a vast amount of artwork for non-creature spells still has creatures on it.
I guess it adds more of a surprise-fun-factor element when you find out what card goes w/ what art work. The only issue with that is the let down of seeing a limited piece of junk w/ great artwork on it. I feel sorry for the artist then. Their art becomes anonymous w/ junk. I hope it doesn't impede the artist from wanting to work w/ WotC in the future. I mean, really, imagine being the guy/gal who works hard for a card, gets paid good, then finds out months/years later that the card is hated. Don't B.S. me and say in the back of the mind of some, the art work is directly associated with the card.
The odd thing is, the opposite doesn't hold the same truth. Tarmogoyf's artwork is a shamble of too much shadow/dark tones, yet the card is one of the most infamous power creatures ever spewed out.
The idea of Unearth (suggested earlier) returning might actually have some merit. Since it's basically flashback for creatures, it would seem like a natural progression within the block and it's a mechanic that hasn't gotten much exploration and has quite a bit of potential design space. I can see R&D changing things up by having a second keyword return, to the best of my knowledge they haven't done that before. (TSP Block excepted)

Not surprised by these pictures and storyline, MaRo did say that you'd see more of cards like Village Cannibals, I guessed the good guys would be turning to the dark.
9) 1B Target creature gets -2/-2. If a creature dies this way return ~ to your hand.
This suggestion is better than punishing fire + grove on one card, as much as I would love this card, it is overpowered. Also, this part of the mill is no place for speculation.

Okay, so a vampire cleric. I don't know why that's just what I've always seen in that art.

(The piece also gave a strange Lotr feel to it as well! I suspect a token creature, as seems to be the theme to much of this block so far!)
