The cards you are listing are appealing to Spikes. The cards actually given are appealing to Timmys and Johnnys.
Gateway cards are for new players, to entice them to come playing casual games in LGS. They don't need to appeal to Spikes, because tournaments are already here to make them coming back to LGS.
It's really unlikely anybody on this board is the target for those promos. Hence why the majority dislike them.
How is Brimstone volley not a good choice? New players love burn.
Trying to appeal to new players doesn't mean they have to give out bad cards that no one should play; they should be handing out good cards so that new players can find out why they are good.

Hey, lolis with katanas are awesome, and I don't care about their home country.

That is flawed new players like to play splashy seemingly powerful effects. The concept of your own stuff has to die for a spell to be good is learned later.
If they where handing out "good" cards they could to much better than volley and start with a rare.

"Your own stuff has to die for a spell to be good"
That isn't what Brimstone Volley does and it is a good card. You can cast it after burning one of their other creatures, or after combat.
Volley is a playable card instead of the garbage they chose to print.

They're not going to hand out rares.
What you're assuming is that new players should be fed stuff they should stereotypically like because they're new. Giving them a card that is good can get new players just as interested. It's just some of you people assume that they don't want good cards.

You are saying they give out common cards that anyone can pull out of a pack. Uncommon and commons will always be easy to get therefore are of little help to anyone seeking to make a deck this days when you need 4 off cards on the 5$+ range.
If wizards was serious about helping they would give utility rares like dune grove elder as the door price and a mythic like titans for top8. As it is this prizes are just an incentive to participate they are a novelty or collector item not a real plus for the beginner FNM crowd.

How is Game Day and its promos relevant to this discussion about Gateway promos?
The point is that Gateway promos are for casual/new players. They are happy to get a promo card, even if it is a common. These type of players may not even play at Game Day.

If the concept of Morbid was so difficult for new players to get their heads around they wouldn't have made it an ability word at Common. I agree that many powerful cards are not immediately obvious as powerful to new players, but to put Brimstone Volley in this category because it has Morbid is ridiculous. Even using it with absolutely no thought at all, it's still a decent burn spell that becomes better if the game state is favourable. Using a tiny bit of thought, you can set up this game state yourself. This is not a difficult concept for new players.
Clearly you never played against r/b bloodthirst with Tormented Soul, Goblin Fireslinger, Blood Ogre, Gorehorn Minotaurs, etc...
Have you tried looking through the thread? Only 4 pages, it's not like you have to spend a few hours searching.
Linking it probably takes the same amount of time as this. Ease up a little.
I'm not a fan of the promos. Neonate maybe. Wurm for the art, but Bloody Tome doesn't interest me much.

Yes yes and more yes. I was really upset about Cultivate and not being able to play it in standard.
JAMMIT DIM! I'm a DOCTOR not a DECKBUILDER!
