I believe the art for Abattoir Ghoul is the "zombie butcher" image, since abattoir is another word for slaughterhouse.
First strike has been solidly placed as a tertiary ability for black for a while now. And since Planar Chaos blue has had a small trickle of discard now and again; still nothing new.

Like many rootwallas, this looks like a very strong limited card, and as a mana sink that doesn't increase your spell count, it's going to be good alongside werewolves.
Am I the only one who thinks that counter is awesome? Makes it worth it to counter ANY 3-drop (or 4-drop if you didn't start). Also, instant discard? Yes please!
The counterspell is pretty good wish it either cost one less or made them pay one more but still even if they pay they still have to discard a card right? So eh It's probably better than stoic rebuttal in some cases.
the equipment isn't a sword, lol.... go and google "trepanning".
the artwork for it is going to be grisly.
just the thought kind of makes me go "bleugh".
still, i like the card. charbelcher-killer? HAH. joking... but it looks like a really fun card to play. the tension will be way up when revealing cards.

Trepanation Blade: Wow, ever want to soft-lock your opponent out of the game? just hit with this puppy each turn and they will endlessly topdeck a land. With most manlands about to rotate, this could virtually seal up a game in short order. And it's an uncommon?
Now I just have to somehow discard their entire hand before i land lock them...

Trepanation Blade- How the hell is this uncommon? I do not want to have to fight through multiples of these things in Limited. Granted it's expensive, but once it gets on line, it wins games.
bad spike counter is bad. mana leak cost 1 less to make them pay 3 and spell pierce only costs 1 mana to force spike them. i don't even considder he discard to even be part of the card because you are paying SO much for an extremely situational and fragile counter that i'd bet actually gets to counter something 40% of the time if that.
also, trepanation blade doesn land lock your opponent. have you ever drawn 2 land i a row, well your opponent can too.

Nasty card is nasty. Not sure about constructed application, but it is fearsome when you float a trial balloon and lose your intended threat.

The counterspell is kinda ridiculous too.

Red card can probably make some sort of flashback R/U damage deck or something.

That's not how it works.
Frightful Delusion- A Force Spike plus discard? Seems good.
Abattoir Ghoul- Going to be a beast in Limited. We haven't seen many First Strikers so he could be a house.
Burning Vengeance- Meh. The Innistrad version of Rage Extractor or Furnace Celebration
Darkthicket Wolf- Rootwalla Wolf is pretty good.
Trepanation Blade- How the hell is this uncommon? I do not want to have to fight through multiples of these things in Limited. Granted it's expensive, but once it gets on line, it wins games.
