I'm fairly certain the mayor was the teased token generator. 2/2 token generator for 2 cost was the teaser, right?
No, the teaser was referring to Stitcher's Apprentice, "A two-mana creature that lets you make a 2/2 creature each turn for two mana". Neither Garruck nor the Mayor have a cost for making the tokens.
I don't know. It might just be me, but I just don't see how Garruk can be useful. Sure he makes 2/2 wolves and that's cool, but the problem is going to be keeping him on the field. If your opponent has any creatures worth their mana, Garruk will be dead before he can flip. Sure his back side is cool with the 1/1 death touch wolves and the necro-overrun, but the -2 seems weird in that you kill a creature on the field to get one in your hand. I'm probably just not seeing how amazing he is, but I think he'll have his few minutes of fame before people realize that a guy who must be wounded before he becomes good is not a great card.
As for the enchantments, love them both. Gonna need the Endless hordes for my Zombie deck. Cemetery Reaper just got amazing~ "At the end of your turn I'll make a zombie and during my turn I'll get four."
Actually, Stitcher's Apprentice fits the hint more than Mayor of Avabruck. Maro said "costs two mana, and for two mana you can make a 2/2 'every' turn". The card costs two (1U), and the ability is 1U (also two mana). The left-out part was the fact you had to sac a creature too during resolution. Howlpack Alpha requires being transformed, and it's a free token on your turn.
Ah, I had forgotten about the 2 mana a turn. 2/2 token generators do seem to be a theme of the set though.
I'll play Garruk and Liliana together, they synergize so well with her killing the cratures he can't fight and him protecting her with his wolves. Then boom, lhurgoverrun against an empty field.

Yes sir, I take fantasy art and character design commissions, PM me for rates.
How do people not see that his first 0 ability allows him to transform? In addition, his -2 ability is aided by his +1 ability. This is a very powerful yet balanced plainswalker.
Uh, they do see it...? Just because they haven't mentioned it doesn't mean it was overlooked.
I don't see any -2 ability on him, nor do I see how he's a plainswalker.
The problem with defining this format by what is "fun" is that everyone seems to define fun as what they don't lose to. If you keep losing to easily answered cards, that means you should improve your deck. If you don't want to improve your deck, then you should come to peace with the idea that you are going to lose because you chose to not interact with better strategies.
I like him. His price will be kept in check by the fact that hes double sided, so your twoce as likely to gt him as any other rare.
Wierd wuestion though. Can you use the back abilities on the same turn as a front ability if he transforms. Since his name is different?. Lets say drop, ping a weenie and flip garruk. Cam i then drop a wolf?
Hate tobquote myself but not seeing much disvmcussion on this yet

in fact he even starts in easily burnable range.
lets take modern for garruk. he would get utterly ran over in zoo and RDW because they would simply burn his face off because he can't raise his loyalty at all until he flips. rock/deathcloud can also hexmage him out of existance if he actually still becomes to prevalent in that format, and with zoo literally dominating the format, garruk won't exist.
in legacy any deck running red would kill him instantly on sight, blue would counter him, and black still has hexmage.
and in vntage nearly nothing is played to begin with other then the same 2 decks going round and around for years and years and years.
even in standard there are SO MANY WAYS to kill him, however that i'd argue would be the best place for him and that is in birthing pod decks as a 1 or 2 of at most because it helps that strategy but really doesn't fit in anywhere else.
WTC... THIS THING IS BANANAS...
Think of ajani vengeant, this guy, garruk is comparable to him.
In the worse case, he comes in to fight a guy and die.
In most normal scenarios, he fights a 2-powered guy and flips immediate, your opponent plays a non-hasted creature and you make a deathtouch wolf, play other stuff and start riding garruk to victory.
Not to mention he's single green, meaning control decks can splash him to great effect, when back by mass removal you can so easily win the game just by making 2/2s
The Jace player gets priority (A difficult concept best explained as "He gets to use Jace's ability before you can bolt"), so you can't bolt Jace until after he pays the cost for his first ability... And the cost doesn't go on the stack.
Wow, I'm dumb. I should get some sleep. Sorry about that.
New Garruk is still awesome. There is a tempo loss, but it isn't that bad when you consider that is the worst case scenario.

Lycanthropy Awareness Day.
Hoping for a cure, or at least an outbreak.
Who is complaining about the 1/1 wolves?! They have deathtouch, so they kind of, sort of, trade with any creature coming their way, barring first strike.
If people say that planeswalkers need to protects themselves to be good, then why is anyone saying he's bad? He not only makes 2 kind of tokens for either 0 or a positive gain..but he also kills off creatures and tutors for better creatures yourself.
That's win folks.
Oh and as someone mentioned..it really is weird that Liliana and Garruk go so well together.
Turn 3 Liliana, discard a creature or Cruel Edict opponent
Turn 4 Garruk kill a creature or make a wolf, while Liliana keeps adding up.
I once farted during the final match for prizes at an FNM. It was a tense moment, everything was quiet, control vs control, I was about to mana leak, thought about it.. and farted. Then mana leaked.
I don't see any -2 ability on him, nor do I see how he's a plainswalker.
Is it frowned upon to call people out on stuff like that? It causes me physical pain to read some of the posts on here. I don't mind iffy punctuation in the slightest but unless some of these posters are foreign or dyslexic I can't imagine an excuse.
What card is going to make him fragile? The Lightning Bolt that isn't legal. incinerate is hardly a replacement. Mono Red as we knew it is prettymuch unplayable and decks typically aren't going to stretch their mana base into red for Incinerate like they did for Lightning Bolt. It lost it's 5 strongest cards. (Guide, Bolt, Searing Blaze, Ember Hauler, and Teetering Peaks). This isn't even counting the loss the fetchlands which make lavamancer much less of a threat.
sait till they show us what kind of burn spell's are comeing in inn.
they might completely wipe out the plans walkers of inn.
I can definitely see him seeing play alongside Lili in a rock/junk type of deck. I've written up a few lists already and it seems like there are a lot of useful interactions you can get ouy of him and the source of his curse. When you take into consideration that Mentor of the Meek, Solemn, Acidic Slime, Thrun, GSZ, Gideon, Sun Titan, Vengeful Pharaoh, Fiend Hunter and various removal spells can ALL be realistically played in a deck together with the help of the new duals, I'd expect to see such a list surface within the next few months. Not sure how strong it'll be, or how it'll affect the game, but I', sure someone out there will try it, and that someone will probably be me.
It's definitely interesting and finally gives this set something I'm excited about. Well I like Elite Inquisitor he will get space in my weenie deck. So that's two cards from this set I actually want.

I don't fear the man who has played 10,000 decks once. I fear the man who played one deck 10,000 times.
As if I didn't already have enough reasons..I'm definately playing BUG in the new Standard with Liliana, Mindshriker (with it's buddy Ponder) and Garruk, and thankfully the manabase won't be clunky anymore due to those absolutely sexy new dual lands.
And sideboard the hell out of that curse too..oh man.

I was really hoping none of the flip cards would be insane. Garruk flipped is very strong. He is easily splashable too. Image opening this in a draft... hilarious. Mint foil copies are going to be insane!
