I once farted during the final match for prizes at an FNM. It was a tense moment, everything was quiet, control vs control, I was about to mana leak, thought about it.. and farted. Then mana leaked.
It's an instant speed 5/5 trampler for 4. Wtf do you people want seriously? It has applications in populate/ above the curve beats decks, or in Bant control/ flash. I seriously think anyone mad at this card for any reason other than losing an attacker to instant speed wurm, should go home and make their own awesome card game and leave the rest of us alone.
I don't think brimstone volley will be finding a home in RDW.
To expand;
The situations in which this will trigger morbid:
1) Combat Swings: Whether it be them swinging into you or vice versa, can result in a creature going into the GY
2) You spend additional mana to burn a creature, makes this a 4-6 mana 5 damage ping.
I DO like the synergy it would have with using chandra's phoenix: chump block or swing, bird dies, ping for 5, recur bird to your hand, Drop bird.
Cellar Door is only pretty decent. Brimstone Volley however, will be winning a lot of games in Limited and may make the jump to Constructed. An instant with a restriction that deals 5 damage to a target? Where have I heard that before?
I wonder when they're going to show more constructed playable cards? I'm annoyed at the lack of "wow" in this set. The flavor is amazing I love it. However the power level has a huge drop off.
you see this is what happens when we don't stand up for our right to spoil a set... we get two so so cards.... i do like the design of cellar door though, but would have prefered to have found this out from captian color or whatever gang of thieves is spoiling this season. hopefully third party previews today will make up for this...

Loving Brimstone Volley. Looks to be sweet with any way of sacrificing your own creatures. In Modern we've got Sakura-tribe Elder, Qasali Pride-mage, and more. In Standard we've got Goblin Bomb.
5 damage for 3 mana is nothing to scoff at. Hey, we were pretty excited to get 4 damage for 3 mana before.

Your right to spoil a set? I'm assuming you're joking.
Cellar Door is hilarious to me, and makes perfect sense. I frankly find Brimstone Volley rather uninteresting as a 3 for 3, but 5 for 3 sounds better, especially for Limited.
The one other "death matters" mechanic we used was one we borrowed from the world of Grixis (one of the shattered worlds of Alara). Internally we call the mechanic "carnage" (although it has no actual name on the cards) and it triggers whenever anything dies. The reason we used carnage in additional to morbid is that it went on a different set of effects, allowing us to make "death matter" even more.
Why does it take so long to spoil a set? I liked it when the magic god book was released. It was cool and everybody was talking about stuff more. This is way too slow in my honest opinion.
Obviously you use it to make sure your general doesn't get Hindered or Spell Crumpled in EDH.
Wow, I definitely did not realize that at first. I don't know if this would be worth running in Commander just for that, though. Maybe if you already have other uses for the occasional Zombie token.
Love the flavor of Cellar Door. Definitely would not want to die alone down there. If zombies become some super powerful deck, other colors might want to run this just for any bonuses.
I for one am annoyed that they made a card that actually cares about graveyard order. In EDH I often have a bunch of triggers from my graveyard, and sometimes I rearrange so that I remember to use Genesis or Bloodghast etc. In almost all instances, the graveyard order doesn't matter, so no-one cares. But with awful cards like Cellar door, it means the order is fairly important.
Brimstone Volley seems constructed playable. If you want to do 5 to the dome, you can almost always make your creatures die in RDW by just swinging in. And if your opponent doesn't block, you probably don't need to do the 5 to the dome anyway.

Good thing this card has nothing to do with graveyard order.

I believe you are misreading, its from the bottom of your library into the GY.
Also, I'd just like to say Chandra's Phoenix + Morbid Effects are win.

I like to protect frightened things perhaps. I assembled them in the fortress of beefitude for safety.
Yeah, that's obviously insane in limited, but that's even good enough for Constructed.
It has tough competition w/ Volt Charge in nearly every Big/Metal red post rotation.

Could be mean now that I think about it.
But why alter a card that will never see play anywhere? (Conley Woods prove me wrong!)

WWWA White mage if you ever saw one.WWW
He's talking about Jund, not Grixis. See: Hissing Iguanar, Deathgreeter, Vicious Shadows, Kresh the Bloodbraided, and the "tri-cycle" of Algae Gharial, Rockslide Elemental, and Scavenger Drake. Those are ALL Jund cards Maro.
On 7/14/10, broke 1900 mark! <3 ROE.
The Cellar Door has good flavor, but I'm not sure there's enough to make it controllable. Has more EDH use than standard formats imo.
It's the first thing I thought of and I'd completely forgotten it was even referenced in that movie.

I could be remembering wrong, but I think that theme was originally meant for Grixis in design, then got shifted to Jund later.
