Also if they were going to start changing card backs, dont you think they would have done it before now, and gotten rid of the defunct Deckmaster logo...
Well, they're not really changing card backs if they decide to put the transformation on the back. That's just a design oddity if they do. I don't think they're ever going to be able to get rid of Deckmaster, or the back in general, now.

I've been wondering how they're going to handle the 2 cardfaces fro transform. Really I could only think of 3 solutions.
1. Tokens - Problem being that the transformed versions appear to have rarity, so that seems to rule this out. Also it would be way too token intensive.
2. Count them as cards - the problem is you'd need 2 rares to play a rare transformer then, and they'd need unique card numbers in the count. this seems unlikely and really hard on the players. I did notice on the card numbers though for Mayor/Howlpack 193a & 193b. so this could be a way of handling it, as long as you know which transformed part goes with which untransformed counterpart.
3. 2-sided card - I think this is the simplest solution. Really any competitive events require sleeves already, and this just solves the problems. This will however make sleeve selection a little more important. Some thinner or lighter colored sleeves could easily become a problem. I guess that's not WoTC's problem though.
4. Some other means of handling double card... have them always gauranteed packed together or an extra film or face over the card or something like that. I think this is very unlikely, although packaging the second every time the first occurs could be done, any other solution for combining them without affecting the back would take away from the durability and ultimately the lifespan of the card.

I once farted during the final match for prizes at an FNM. It was a tense moment, everything was quiet, control vs control, I was about to mana leak, thought about it.. and farted. Then mana leaked.
And it gives up info while playing, if you see the howlpack alpha sitting on top of your deck, then its not much of a mystery as to what you're going to draw next.
No, it makes them complicated to pick cards in, you'll have to decide if you want the good transform card and expose your pick to others, or pick normal limited fodder. Impossible would be if the cards made every pack they were in ignite after the first pick, even then I'd reword it to unlikely over impossible.
I laughed for 2 minutes straight imagining this.
Thank you sir. *tips hat*

It seems pretty easy to know what they transform into. The transformed version has P/T equal to the one shown on the original card and has the same colors. I wouldn't be surprised if there were no repeats to make this work. (i.e. the Mayor would be the only green creature that transforms into a 3/3). This could also include rarity, since rarity is printed on the transformed side.
Another way would be if all the transformations had similar transform costs. We know that the mayor transforms when no spells are cast, and the wolf transforms back when 2 spells are cast. This can also help tie them together.
Ill go with this. Let's remember Maro said a couple days ago seomthing about making sure that the booster packing system worked all right, and that he cracked open several boosters to make sure everything worked fine. THis, IMO, means that boosters that would include any transforming creature will contain both version a and b of the same card. "B" being in the "token" slot. Remember that during drafts, all tokens/promos are put aside. So if you take the transforming guy, the side B card will be in the pile of cards where tokens and else go. And when the time to transform comes you can have access to it.
As for this cards place, Im betting that they will go into the Command ZOne.
To a first approximation, double-sided Magic cards are about as likely as the Tooth Fairy.
It's not that.
I am surprised that this means that all of the information for a transformation pair can't be on a single piece of cardboard. No matter how it's implemented, this is going to have significant implications in Limited. I'm very curious to see what they're doing.
Exactly. My. Thoughts. Exactly.
And for everyone who says there is no mentioning of the card that Mayor of Avavruck transforms into on his card text, look at the card set number. It's 193a. Howlpack Alpha is 193b. It's really not that hard to figure out...

It would be a requirement to use sleeves that are not possible to see through at all. So, you'd have to buy the nice, expensive sleeves to play them.
Holy 1772 viewing, batman! Any more noos on the transform mechanic from the people at the event? Flip cards are clearly out of the picture, maybe the 'bring the transform card in from exile' idea I saw thrown around earlier.

The token inserts into packs will be the card you're transforming into. After 18 or however many goddamn years that they made this game, with that grungy old back art, why would they start printing dual sided cards?
You play your deck with piece A, you fetch token for piece B.
Tokens for the day night cards dont really work for draft.
First Pick I take a card and a token? And WotC is limited on the number of transformers they can put in a pack.
EDIT: pulling your token out of the center is a giveaway of what you have. Its not like tokens where everyone has a dozen or you just take them because you want to. You HAVE to have the other piece of the puzzle.
I don't think it's double sided cards--I don't want to consistently have to go through and flip my cards in and out of the sleeves. There must be a better, more realistic way. <.<
Or you know..just get a thing of 80 sleeves for like $4.
The store I play at doesn't have those sleeves. Just the pack of 50 for $3 that are easy to see through or Dragonshield. In fact, both of the stores I've played at in Florida have been like that.

Wow. That could be a very nice sideboard card. Possibly very annoying if you have werewolves zombies or vamp deck.
You play your deck with piece A, you fetch token for piece B.
Maybe you have to have the transformed version of him in your deck and you search for it and put it on the battlefield.
