My guess is that rather than aiming specifically at Pod, this card was meant to broadly attack and weaken decks based primarily on SoM-block cards. This would make sense if Innistrad is, as many believe, a deliberately "powered down" set -- if R&D believes that Innistrad is generally weaker than Scars, they might worry about Standard being dominated by Scars-heavy decks and Innistrad having no chance to shine. Thus, cards that make artifact strategies riskier and give an incentive to experiment with new decks.
Why are people saying that pod loses if it can't activate pod? The point of a good pod list is that it functions without its namesake, but when the Pod comes down, you have uncounterable threats which attack permanents. That being said, I think it is good to have this sort of hate for Birthing Pod, simply because pod looks like the strongest decklist so far post rotation. Yay Null Rod reprint!
Likely answers: pray for Beast Within or Naturalise/scoop
Torpor Orb alone:
Acidic Slime useless
Viridian Corruptor useless
Answers: Pray for Beast Within, pod to Sylvok replica if possible, pod up chain for Wurmcoil/Titan or 7 drop.
Silence of Stones alone:
Pod useless
Sylvok Replica useless
Answers: Pray for Beast Within or Acidic Slime.
When the game becomes that narrow, there lies the problem. I brought a deck which rewards tight play and utilising the correct tool for a situation. Effectively we instead found a way to narrow it into draw Beast Within in a relevant timescale or just lose.
EDIT: And it's not about how effective this strategy is in winning, increasing opponent's dead draws etc. My big complaint is that it will simply cause some games to be dull and frustrating, which is not why I play. If I'm not having fun I have no interest in playing.

it pretty much tells equipment no you can not attach to other creatures in addition to nulling pod.
I could see this as a great sideboard card as pod would have to cast acidic slime to get rid of enchantment or likely have already sided in natrualize to hate against the white sideboard.
Pod and Caw-Blade (Invisible Blade) should be packing Artifact/Enchantment hate in the board, and not in the form of creatures. Naturalize, Revoke Existence, Beast Within, Oblivion Ring, etc. are the way to go.
i forsee some sighs when people drop this turn 2 lol
Yes, but at least it will help make the game a bit longer and give a shot for the mid tier decks to catch up and shine a bit. They are slowing down the format, and I think we should all be glad. This card + Torpor makes for headaches, but nothing people can't work around. Instead of 3-5 turn games we're looking at 4-7.

Pod suffers the most from this and it doesn't kill within 5 turns. Closest it does is a god hand allowing an early Acidic Slime and clone to set them so far off tempo they're not far off dead on board.
The format looked slow anyway where the pace setter will be Tempered Steel.
Which ironically won't be hamstrung by these cards enough to slow down.
I don't see how printing this card helps the format enough to be a lesser of 2 evils. As I see it, it hoses pod.

If your deck scoops to your opponent playing one or two cards, your deck is bad. Plain and simple. If Pod is going to auto-scoop to this card, then Pod wasn't going to be a good deck in the first place. Instead of complaining about it, figure out a way around it or play a different deck.
glad to see a card to help against the hyper aggressiveness of current standards meta with things like caw, titansteel and pod. maybe give my illusions deck a chance? :P...it splashes white anyways lol

This also gives an incentive to run 3-4 naturalize in side board for pod to hate against this card.
silence of stone will likely not be in main board as it is a dead card against quite a few decks that will likely be coming around so this card will definitly be hated against for game 2.
Notice how this card does not exclude mana abilities. Will this card shut down artifact lands then?
Yup.
You can't counter mana abilities once activated (they don't use the stack), but unless this has a special clause that OP neglected to include, it will preclude their activation just fine.

Well, any deck could auto-scoop to some card. Obviously people are going to complain when that card is printed. (Not that this is actually that card for Pod, but that's another story.)
For example:
Mtenda Falconer
1GG
Creature - Human Druid
2/1
When Mtenda Falconer enters the battlefield, search target opponent's library, hand, and graveyard for up to 4 1/1 creature cards with flying and put them onto the battlefield under your control. Those creatures get +7/+7 and haste until end of turn.
just make sure you get it out before they equip the sword or its to late.

This card seems... pretty lame
It shuts down birthing pod, caw blade, and puresteel decks.

This stops Pod and equipment in their tracks.

it's almost like saying "why play affinity when null rod/silence of rocks is in the meta"??
They cost exactly the same, super splashable and hate on a lot of cards.
I mean it's an excellent card, but I still hate that they brought it up. I already hated null rod and now this...
I guess I will just go back to Enchantress for legacy. That's it. screw it. lol

Wow and I just bought a playset of Swords of Feast and Famine and Swords of War and Peace like a month ago to play puresteel... FUUUUUUU!!! Well at least White has revoke existence and demistfy if I gotta deal with this BS.

Win.
Very nice and powerful, if niche, sideboard card. Will almost certainly see play.
Yup.

Yes, mana abilities of artifact lands are still activated abilities of artifacts, and cannot be activated.
R Citizen Cane (Feldon of the Third Path)
Yes, as does null rod. If you've ever played affinity against null rod, it's not fun...

The best archtype ever made is getting all of its power nerfed so badly...
sigh.
It really is an excellent card though...such a shame I have to hate it...

that's... just... Obscene.
This card Deserves a friggin censor bar or something that's... wow.
This card will be incredibly relevant up until the moment it rotates.
I can't wait to get my hands on these. Makes me want to play W.
