The card seems pretty marginal, since unlike Pikula it doesn't do anything else. You end up spending a card to counter a spell -- but you don't even know if they have the spell in hand.
There's the obvious Poe reference which there should be more of because he's probably one of the best writers of gothic horror of all time. Pleas make a reference to The Fall of the House of Usher and the Tell-a-Tale Heart.
But what if it's also a reference to the band Nevermore, one of their albums being called This Godless Endeavor.

Could be, but we know theres a 'little girl' style card (DFC, girl on front, demon on back). Could be either one the way they decide it, so we'd probably have to wait on an explanation

That was completely speculation... If that does become what cloistered youth is, which it seems more likely the girl will turn into a spirit as the whole flavor from the letters make it seem, she becomes giestlocked. Also what would that have anything to do with the card little girl?
I know what you meant. You're justifying that White has had access to abilities such as that of Nevermore, so there's no "color bleeding". I'm just saying that Nevermore is better than Meddling Mage. I aplogize about the irrelevance.

We've seen an image of the back face (with the text scrubbed out). She transforms into a black Demon.
Meddling Mage as an enchantment, which has both advantages and disadvantages for it not being a creature. Still very good and could see Modern play, as a ton of combo decks will just scoop to this if it hits the table.
Birthing Pod is definitely in trouble. As if Torpor Orb and Silence of Stone weren't enough.

I have to admit that's the first thing I thought.

Technically, Meddling Mage is a white card.
This set reminds me more and more of Lorwyn/Shadowmoor, which is awesome

A lie is a lie if everyone believes it. The truth is the truth if no one does.
Damn, I guess that's right. I was hoping it would be something that, y'know, had actually not been done in black borders before.
Meddling Mage is easier to get rid of.
Glad I wasn't the only one thinking about the band!
This card is definitely leaning towards abuse with "CIP, name your general" in 1v1 EDH. Hooray for being a white mage

I have no idea how this follows what I said.
Was it twitter where they mentioned having the full set revealed this week? I could have sworn I read something about it.
A couple problems with this.
1. The effect predates Unglued (Null Chamber).
2. Look at me, I'm the DCI is really a match-duration Memoricide which also removes from play.

But the fact that you have to play a pretty serious amount of white for it hurts a lot, and the fact that it costs 3 mana hurts even more.
