I really like the art on that land. I also think that "synonym for zombie" would have been an appropriate name for Walking Corpse,or maybe just 'Zombie'.
Heh..Walking Corpse. I guess they learned their lesson from that 'worse than Grey Ogre' 2/2 for 3 from a couple of sets back.
Also, seeing a grizzly bear as a spoiled card is pretty disappointing. Actually this set seems to be shaping up to be disappointing period. I'm fine with the power level being taken down, but, this seems like too far in that direction.
Ok so black gets a bear but with a relevant creature type? I never thought I'd see the day. Sure a black bear with a relevant creature type isn't that amazing by today's standards but it's sure cool.
Almost definitely Shimmering Grotto, particularly with the art below it in the article.
They could always pull a FTV: Legends when talking about the past and just mean recent history with Rupture Spire. I like gavony township, I just wish it had the planewalker support of say Ajani in type 2. Owell should be interesting although my favorite still is the 1/1 flying spirit tokens.
I don't know about anyone else, but these land, by far, are the best I have seen regarding additional effects. They do not come into play tapped, force a land to be bounced, or force a land to be sacrificed. OK, so the abilities are a little steap, but what do you expect? They're very well balanced.
But what did we expect? Richard Garfield was on the team, and of all people, he knows Magic.
If you read the article, they say they were intended to rival Inkmoth Nexus as it was in nearly every deck list of the future future league. Specifically they said Inkmoth showed up in not quite as many non-mono color decks so they thought the dual color activation lands would be a solid substitute instead of Inkmoth vs. Inkmoth duals every match.
It's an instant speed 5/5 trampler for 4. Wtf do you people want seriously? It has applications in populate/ above the curve beats decks, or in Bant control/ flash. I seriously think anyone mad at this card for any reason other than losing an attacker to instant speed wurm, should go home and make their own awesome card game and leave the rest of us alone.
Oh, I thought he was talking about playing a spell that is countering a spell with counters on it as it comes into play, but I see you guys were just discussing whether he was flashing a creature with flash in order to flash a flashback or just flashing a creature with flash but not needing flash in order to flashback a spell without flash.
That land is going to be interesting to try out in Tempered Steel, maybe splashing the Green off Mox Opal. Seems like a decent 1-of to get the effect of Steel Overseer late game, if it ever goes to that.
This is a nice card. Use it as a one of in a deck and give your creatures bonuses that oran reif never could this hits white creatures and others as well!!!
But really, I like the white/green land. Although my point still stands, 1/1 counters don't fit the white, why is it white now? I thought growth was more of a blue/green thing, not white/green.
OMG! I called this card's effect EXACTLY. Only thing I got wrong was the cost (WG1) instead of wg2. Still pretty proud (it was obvious tho I guess...)
Still, awesome land, definitely a fun card, and one that makes prime time still a good card. (this + wolf run = oh dear god)
I like the common simply for being an elegant little vanilla that fully reflects the dominance death has over the plane of Innistrad. This is the face of wildlife upon its lands - dead, corrupt, rotten, and everywhere.
On the zombie: Is this the first time black has truly gotten a functional bear? I've seen a few old cards that come close, but have some asinine drawback like exiled boggart.

Shimmering Grotto is recent history all things considered. Also, I think the art for the card was right below the paragraph in which he mentions the card. That art looks more like a shimmering grotto than a tower rupturing from the ground.

BLACK BEAR.
(Not an actual black bear, but a bear-sized creature that is black.)
This is the most exciting card of the set. I'm not even being sarcastic.
