Phelddagrif is quite clearly on the reserved list, and they closed the "premium" loophole, so there will be no Purple Hippos in FTV:Legends.
Aw, shucks.
I don't think Kresh is a bad inclusion, by the way. He's very popular as a build-around-me commander, even if he's not a very powerful one by more competitive standards. There's room for both power cards (like Teferi) and casual favorites (like Kresh) in the same product.

They can just change Questing Phelddagrif and make him a legend. ( they should do this and make those 4 color creatures legends Or make them be "commanders"

No power level errata. That's been the policy for a while now. Giving something an additional supertype would definitely qualify.
Kresh was a predictable inclusion given his popularity in Commander and overall Timmy-ness. I'm fine with it. He's a popular "gateway" commander. Newer players start out with Kresh, have some fun and build around him (or not), and then move on to others.
Progenitus is somewhat expected as well but I gotta say that art looks so lackluster compared to the original. He does look like a generic hydra now. Large, but generic. Far too similar to Apocalypse Hydra, which at least shows something going on in the picture. And what's up with the mouth/faces? Is he laughing at something?
Hope the other legends are a little more spicy I guess.
Progenitus is definitely a cool inclusion, but I hope that there's still room for another five-color legend... I'd really, really like to see Karona get reprinted here.
I preferred the original Progenitus art. I liked the idea that it was so powerful that it could only be glimpsed through mist, or your head would essplode. This art banishes that mystique that the original had about it. New kresh is cool though.
I like the new art for both of these. IMO, I like the new Progenitus for two reasons: 1, I'm not a fan of non-detailed art; 2, I love how he's destroying a freakin' mountain.
I like the new Kresh the Bloodbraided art a LOT more. In the first one, he looks too much like a Qasali, tbh. This one looks a lot more "human." Also, more detailed, and I don't like Raymond Swanland's art on human subjects.
I gotta say I disagree with the haters re: Progenitus's new art. The old art is cool, but giant colorful Progenitus exploding out of a Naya volcano is much more god-like, I think.

This pretty much sums it up. The old Progenitus felt like something that was so terrifying and dangerous that you could only view it safely from 15 miles away. And it was still huge. It screamed: "You want me to fight for you? Ok, but I don't just want some of the mana, I want all of the mana. Twice. Deal with it." And Raalic the Planeswalker responds, "Yeah, that sounds fair. Lemme just talk to some peeps, make sure I paid my taxes on all my land holdings. You know, legal stuff."

I understand, but there are a few ways to represent the notion of God, god, diety, etc. I prefer the one on the right, you prefer the one on the left
Kresh? Seriously? He is the most overrated general in Commander by far. Gets chumped forever unless you spend resources to give him evasion, and he is easily reset with any kill spell, bounce, or blink effect.
Clearly, you have never Flung Kresh at someone's dome. Feels better than it should.
Seriously UNimpressed with either of these. Wtf Jarvis?

(I am glad for an update here, and I've never really bashed a card for its art before now. THAT is how bad I think both of these are, fwiw.)
I did it to give you something to complain about!
Actually this is the first FTV that really didn't *need* anything reillustrated, but new art is a part of the product. What you'll find, when you've finally seen all the new stuff, is that since the originals are very, very good, i couldn't really try to out do the originals, so i gave you a different stylistic approach to them.
Volkan's tightly oil painted Teferi as opposed to my loose watercolors;
Argyle's hyper clear detail as opposed to Raymond's hectic mark-making; etc.
these new illustrations are an exercise in stylistic reinvention, playing against your aesthetic memory of the cards.
yes, i could have gone back to jaime and asked him to show us the other side of Progenitus through the mist, but that's not very interesting.
Keep an open mind, and even if you don't personally love all of them, you will get a kick out of some of the re-interpretations.
fair enough?

Kresh <---> Conan the Barbarian which looks fine
Progenitus's new art on the other hand is quite "god" awful. At least make the volcano/mountain bigger to fit Progenitus' heads.
It looks like Progenitus just randomly pop out of the earth and the volcano just happened to be in the way.

Seriously that art looks like it has no soul to it , at all :S
Also, progenitus spent a lot of time at KFC didn't he?

Maybe overreacting but old art was so much better, had that epic feeling

I know they always include cards from the entire timeline of Magic, but two cards from a block as recent as Alara is just 'meh'.
Not to mention that one is a janky $1.50 mythic.
What is up with the trees and plants in the Progenitus art? Does it seem eye-wateringly 'out of phase' to anyone else?
I don't get your point. What do you mean by "out of phase"?
Did you guys sit around and make awkward jokes about Kresh's belly hair too? I can't imagine that no one said anything about that when it showed up.
Which is one of the reasons I don't work for you
Edit: Attached a blank in case anyone else wants to jump in
