Yeah, the only real money cards I was hoping to see are, like I said before, money cards that cost a lot just because of their edh play. Stuff like Akroma's Memorial, Doubling Season, and Crucible of Worlds. (Although I guess Crucible is seeing eternal play now.)
Top is a money card in other formats and it really slows the game down. Those two points alone were probably enough to keep it off the lists.
Being a money uncommon doesn't mean anything. Greaves was $6 and I was seeing people buy played Sol Rings at my LGS for $14-15 each up until the announcement. Top could have been in one or two of the decks only and it would just have been icing on the cake. Granted, enough people would buy them just to break the singles, but it probably would have dropped accordingly since these products aren't exactly limited.
They are fun sure but really if those cards impress you..Then you must be new to magic..There are WAY better cards that they could have printed..Wasteland and Maze to mention a few.
And do say its just because I want to get them for cheap as I already own 4 of each
They won't reprint rare Legacy Staples in precon decks--c'mon, do you really expect to see a $45-50 card like wasteland in a $40 commander deck. This isn't FTV
i'm very pleased with these sets. value-wise, they may be the first precons that are really WORTH IT (except the one with jitte i guess). i've also recently convinced a group of 4 other friends to get back into magic with me. they have almost no cards of their own other than the few packs of scars block we cracked together.
these sets will give them a very solid deck to start commander with. AND as a POSITIVE there is much room to improve all of these decks. those who are interested in improving their decks can slowly add cards/staples that they pick up. actually, i might even advise that they pick up 2 or 3 of these commander decks each to fully load up on the some of the solid cards in here. once you buy 2 or 3 you can overlap and combine them into one stronger deck (being mindful of choosing the right colored cards, of course).
all in all... great looking decks. i'm glad i preordered them months ago! (for only about $100!)
Darn, I was hoping for a new-frame Spiritmonger, but that's ok. It wouldn't have really fit into the deck's theme, anyway.
I was kind of hoping for a spirtmonger myself, don't know why. I have the grand prix version, but love mah apocalypse spirtmongers sooo much

Brian Tinsman, Set Designer can only be cast during the third set of a block.
When Brian Tinsman, Set Designer enters the battlefield, ignore all flavor and mechanics of the first two sets in the block. "Ok so what do we have here... gothic horror? Scrap it. Expand the Devine Vs. Demonic duel deck to 244 cards and print it!"

As a long time collector of precons, I have to say that I am blown away at how good these are. Sure, they aren't going to stand up to the decks that I have spent years tuning, but the fact that they made a fun product that is playable right out of the box is more than I hoped for.

Now, I have to find some of the singles for those old decks of mine
I don't think the ones I want will be cheap for a long time.
Damnit I want to know what Ghave, Guru of Spores does. Too bad his decklist totally blows. I am so not buying that junk. Skullclamp is one of the few decent cards on the list. Not good enough to buy in my opinion.

I have officially moved to MTGNexus. I just wanted to let people know as my response time to salvation decks being bumped is very hit or miss.

I actually think it looks pretty cool, great synergy.

I disagree. The following are all good general EDH cards in general (although some are easy to find)

To be fair, because we haven't seen what Ghave does yet, we can't evaluate the decklist very well. Right now it has a ton of token production but only a couple cards (like Skullclamp) that can effectively abuse them. For all we know, Ghave could say "Token creatures you control get +10/+10, trample, and lifelink," which would obviously cast the deck in a whole new light.
Hmm ok the plan now if to buy Counter Punch and Devour for Power...I love me some token action, and the Acorn Catapult was one card I really wanted...he he squirrels...
Have to take my brother with me to the release day, then I can score 2 of the oversized promos...
Looks like Devour for Power gives you the most amount of value. It comes with grave pact, o-stone, living death, solemn, and a bunch of good uncommons. However, these are just reprints that can be obtained from other sets. The more important cards are the new ones that can't be obtained anywhere else. If one of them becomes legacy viable or something, you can expect it to jump in price a lot.
Just hit my LGS and pre-ordered all five for 140. (saved ten bucks). I'm sure I could of found a better deal, but I'd rather support the store then some anonymous Internet site.
Still hoping crucible shows up in the bgw build, but I also want a unicorn. I doubt I'll get either.
Great product. These decks are a great steroid point for new players and can be easily fine tuned into stronger decks.

Uhg, Counter Punch looks so poor. Well, hopefully Ghave will make up for it. Don't get me wrong, I like the good EDh cards like the Elders, Clamp, and Aura Shards. But compared to the others... damn....
And whats with all of the spiders?

Anybody else thinking of loading up Heavenly Inferno with the highest CMC dragons, demons, and angels... and then including Timesifter?
I could see it being sort of fun but I think to be honest that it will use its commander moreso as an accelerant. If an opponent uses spot removal on the commander a few times then the big fatties will come out a few turns back and then they will be hurting for removal. I see it as a bit more of a casual agro deck though to be honest. It looks like fun but I sort of feel like it will have plenty of limitations.
It will be amazing for just tossing a free Deathless Angel while keeping up full mana.

I think they focused more on making a strong, good deck instead of having equal rarities on every deck.
