So... now instead of a dominant blue/white deck revolving around two very powerful cards, we're going to have a dominant green/red deck revolving around two very powerful cards.
Hooray for the new redeemed standard!
How is having a dominant green/red deck better than a dominant white/blue deck?
I'm glad for the bannings in the sense I can pickup Jaces and Stonforge Mystics at reasonable price. I'm only sad because this banning means Wizards will cave to whining and has proven to me that Standard will always be the worst format ever.
I don't think it was all whining. I saw the tail end of faeries, I played Jund/Against Jund, and I played Caw-Blade. I saw the difference. Faeries was tough, but there were other decks that with a good pilot could win fairly. Jund died easily to red deck wins, but if your meta was control and dominated by people flashing off this new planeswalker "jace".
But caw-blade? It went too far. People starting verbally expressing themselves at the level of domination of stoneforge mystic and then the final hammer on the coffin nail jace. And they were well-founded claims backed by numbers, and not only that, it went so far as people pre-sideboarding for the mirror to have an edge at top 8. Just get through the first few rounds of jank and then I can have a super shot at the top, or maybe I can just save up a few byes to get to round 4 before anyone else.
Right when they finally have a good deck out I want to play they ban it. Great now I have to wait a few more years for another good standard deck to pop up.
Bring on the Valakut. It doesn't scare me. I run MBC most of the time and usually roll over Valakut pretty easily...
I wonder if the swords values with hold fairly steady since the demand will go up (people will need multiples to draw instead of being able to run 1 and tutor it).
I guess I can grumble for a few months, suck it up, and deal playing against Ramp decks more. But post M11/Zendikar, Wizards needs to focus on other strategies outside of ramp/goodstuff type decks like Valakut/Eldrazi Green. I'm stoked on Flashback and graveyard strategies coming up. It'll be refreshing.
I don't play Standard, or even most tournaments at all, in the 6 years I've been playing I've never played any sort-of Constructed tournament and only play limited formats. Outside of that I stick to EDH and Cube.

No, it proves that Wizards will cave to people not wanting to play the game anymore. Standard attendance has been down a ton recently.
Standard is probably the worst format, though, yeah. Actually now it'll be better than Extended because Jace is still legal there. I guess that's the final nail in Etended's coffin.
Man, what a crappy time to be moving. I would love to hear what my local group has to say about this, but alas, I leave Friday morning.
While I'm glad Standard might freshen up a bit now, I rather think this is closing the barn doors after the cows have already gotten out, run around a little Spanish village for a few hours, went back to the barn, and then left again. If they were going to ban these cards, it should have been before they were due to rotate out in a little over 3 months.
I do, however, approve of the tricky handling of the Event Deck. That caused some of the strongest debate about whether Stoneforge would be banned or not.
Too bad, I enjoyed jace, and didn't really find him too OP. But this gets me excited for jace 3.0, because something needs to fill the hole in my UB control deck. Or maybe a tezzeret brew.
NOW him/her decks lost 8 cards, around 400 dlls that cann't be used in the national or qualifier national, doing that the player need to "buy" other cards for make other decks and tested... What will be the next? because this is the 3rd time that happen "and always" when the artifact is "comming" (Urza Saga, Mirrodin and Scar of Mirrodin) 3rd time gentleman, and always falling in the same "stone".
Wizards... May be is time of forget the money and bring to us back the game that we want.

Except I am not out 400 dollars, I got my Jaces for 25 bucks and my Stoneforges for 3. I also got a lot of good play and tourney wins out of them netting more cards in return etc. Look at the whole investment. The guys in the top 8 at Singapore aren't out 400 dollars, they won cash with those cards. They are ahead. I've won at least 2-3 boxes of cards just from local events with Cawblade, I am ahead.
The sparkmage shrieked, calling on the rage of the storms of his youth.
To his surprise, the sky responded with a fierce energy he'd never thought to see again.
I bought my Jaces for thirty each and got 10x times that amount of money, at least, thanks to him. So on one side I'm OK with bannings and I understand the reason. But on the other it's a huge mistake, since it makes other decks as oppressive as Jace was and people lost money on it. Wizards had a set to fix it (New Phyrexia) but instead printed cards (Batterskull, Sword 2.0, Dismember) that allowed even worse things than before. That doesn't make much sense to me. It was better to let it go for next two month or print some real answers, than ban it and screw players.

I have divined your fate. You shall find your nemesis, a catastrophic clash. Devastation, misery for all, the unleashing of horrible curses and ferocious powers. Ruin, such ruin that I dream each night of blessed peace, assured that the universe is in balance once more...
What Wizards needs to do now is reevaluate how the formats are set-up. What this proves to me is that Standard will never be "healthy" with such a limited 2 block + Core Set set-up.
Extended now should become Standard and Modern should replace Extendned.

Twelve pages for one and half hour? 884 users reading this thread? Yes, this the news of the month. I, for one, can say that one my friend sold two SFM for $ 50 two weeks ago and another my friend got rid of Jace TMS just for 80 $. Good deal. And I really feel sorry for those who preordered 2 packs of W-event deck to make Cow-blade (or whatever it's called).

Cool. Then why do you care so much when the majority of the people who actually play Type 2 are excited?
I just lost hundreds of dollars. Valakut will dominate for the next few months. SO MUCH RAGE. F*** you WIZARDS. Why couldn't they ban one or the other? THIS IS BULL****
today, i thought, was starting to be a bad day.. then this news came up..
what great news... finally there will be some changes around my meta. i was so sick of everyone running cawblades with the occasional few running vamps. if you had anything that wasn't cawblade, you stood a good chance of losing.
glad they reacted the way they did.. jace had his chance in the spotlight and leaving a few months is nothing but good news. thanks wizards!

Thank goodness this deck is dead.
May have been being just a tad sarcastic there.
But seriously, I have to admit I am excited to see what fills the void.

I doubt the deck is going to become near as dominant as Cawblade, if only because it's much easier to hate.

Yeah, we all need a few more years of Jund, Fae, and Cawblade after they would have normally rotated out.
Current extended is a joke.
