i think that "starting to you" means you pay mana and you search X lands..then other players do same thing..if they do not have mana, then they do not search.
4 Player game
Player A pays 5 mana
Player B pays 3 mana
Player C pays 8 mana
Player D pays 0 mana
EACH player searches through their deck for 16 basic land cards and puts them into play.
I play almost all basics in Doran (mostly for budget reasons) and often get razzed about it. Thank you Wizards for printing a card that lets we drop a ton of lands while everyone else sadfaces. I guess I'll be keeping Rampaging Baloths in too.
Correct. 9.9 times out of 10, this is going to get played by a Timmy grinning from ear to ear. I'll probably just scoop at that point, because the game just got a lot less interesting. On the other 1%, the person playing it will have a way to take advantage of the mana before everyone else, and they'll probably crush. It's the same situation as New Horizons or Prosperity, cards I already find far too annoying.
Isn't the point of any game playing it? There is nothing in the world that would make me scoop unless I'm decked, my life total is 0, I have 10 poison counters or a Coalition Victory or similar effect was played. This kind of mana effect is just awesome and if you can't take advantage of it before the caster untaps (barring shenanigans) then your deck is probably weak or you're topdecking.
This card's drawback is that the caster is the last one to use the lands, but it is yet so awesome that a deck of any color could add green just to cast it. All those 9+-mana brutes of huge spells become possible to cast with the help of such a card.

If there is such a thing as too much power, I have not discovered it!

You've got this backwards. The stronger and more tuned your deck is, the less advantage it will be able to take. Decks with a pile of overcosted junk they would not normally be able to play get enabled by this. It rewards bad play by the other players. That's the kind of thing folks like me (and my playgroup) don't care for at all.

I disagree 100%. Quick example is mono black, that loves more and more swamps. You want to give me even MORE ? Sure. No problem. It doesn't stop me from my game plan of a big Exsanguinate, Maga, Traitor of Souls or any other mana hungry card in black. I think it's actually the opposite. The more tuned a deck is, the more advantage you'll gain from this card.
You sound like the text book sour player, that if he doesn't get his way, cries himself out of the game and scoops. Those players always bring epic lawlz.
I would like to say though, that not every group hug deck isnt there to win. Ive played with and seen several decks that appear to be nothing but typical group hug to fly under the radar-- then they run some degenerate combo that smashes everyones face. Its always a little more insulting to get beat by the deck that handed you everything you needed to kill them, just before it kicks you in the nutts and wins.

Even if they are there to win, it's a strategy that really grinds on a lot of people. I am cool with 40 counter.dec, Mass Land Kill.dec, Infinite Oona.dec, but I hate group hug.
These cards seem really really bad. It the cycle starts with you. So you tap out to get the benefit but are the last to be able to use it. You are basically handing your opponents the game.
I would never ever run this in my EDH. If it ever gets cast it will be one of my opponents while I take the full benefit then wreck them before their turn even comes around. So you mean that "I win" combo in hand cost me 8 mana to get going and all my opponents tapped out? HELLS YA!!!!
Come on think about these things for a minute. Their are tons of combos out there waiting to go off in people's hands. You are literally saying to your table "who in the rotation has their combo do it now and win." I am going to laugh myself under the table when you cast this, tap out, and everyone else just passes and pays 0 mana into it.
I'm pretty certain that X=0 does not count as paying mana. Since, you know, you didn't pay mana. Would you trigger a Chandra's Spitfire off a Blaze set for zero?

No you would not, but the cards say 2 different things---
Chandra's Spitfire wording basicaly boils down to this:
Was an opponent delt noncombat damage?
If yes-- this gets +3/+0 until the end of the turn.
As we both know, 0 is = no damage delt, so it would not go the buff.
Collective Voyage on the other hand pretty much says this:
Collectively, each player may pay any amount of mana.
Add up the total amount each player paid.
Each player may search for X basic lands where X is the total amount paid.
It doesnt say each player who paid mana in this way, or each player may only search for an amount of lands = to what that player paid.
Instead, its going to let everyone search for basic lands = the total amount everyone pays... If there is 10 players, and only one of them pays 4 mana for this spell-- all 10 will get to search for 4 lands.

Why? It seems pretty transparent what the intentions of the card and mechanic were and the card and mechanic does a great job of that. How is that bad design?
Do you just mean the way it's written? Would this have been better?

Join Forces - Starting with you, each player may pay any amount of mana.
Each player may search his or her library for up to X Basic land cards, where X is the total amount of mana paid this way, puts them onto the battlefield tapped, then shuffles his or her library.

I guess I meant that I don't see a lot of value in using a card that doesn't really ever let me outplay my opponent. I can't punish greedy players for tapping out-- they still get the land. Can't make people play around a Port or a Mishra's Helix.
You have to work really hard with the cards spoiled so far in this cycle to do something that actually benefits you without being broken. Neither Combo Decks or Helping my opponents win appeal to me when playing magic.
If this is what they want the card to do, it's designed to do it perfectly fine. I just think it's not a very helpful thing for a card to do.

I see myself cutting such a card from my deck. letting all players have the land seems dumb. only way to play this card in my eyes is to trick my opponents to tap out for lands and paying nothing myself. this way I can stick a bomb or win uninterupted. even then seems bad.
Or, this plus the new red enchantment where others can't search.... If you could flash it in somehow, after they payed for it, it'd be sooooooooooo sweet. 8)

uh.. this doesn't work... once the spell resolves, it must resolve fully before anyone can do any fast effects/tricks...
this card just punishes people who play a lot/tons of non-basic lands... "oh.. you only have 5 basic lands on your 5 color EDH deck? I guess the rest of us would enjoy searching for 12 basic lands each"

All the people at my table when I cast this card have I am sure. If he's on the table people aren't going to pay anything but 0 for X unless they are in desperate need of land AND don't have any creatures.
Stranglehold (see Commander spoilers) does not need you to flash this spell out - it only prevents opponents searching their libraries - not you; which would make this entirely one sided (baring instant enchantment removal).
i know... but he wants to flash Stranglehold in the middle of the resolution of the spell...

No. The point of playing a game is to enjoy it. People playing jank without an intent to win ultimately makes the game less enjoyable.
