Ugh, you like that art? She's got Chun-Li Syndrome! lol
That art has been out for a month and a half or so I think. Jace also has new art released. Both are used on the new MTG Deckbuilder's Toolbox.
I guess I have a thing for thighs? Hahah.
I'm trying to find that actual place that particular image came from. Also, the color of the background of Jace on the toolkit looks like it could end up being on that card too.
If anything, this looks like we'll be seeing familiar faces again.
Which is sort of a shame because there's a LOT of untapped potential still for walkers. Specifically non human ones. All of these different worlds and faces Wizards, and you're telling me that your main cast consists pretty much of nothing but people? Not a single Goblin, Vashino, or Nantuko or whatever has ascended and is rolling around or gotten mixed up in this confounding web of BS you call an overarching story?

Brian Tinsman, Set Designer :?mana::snow::snow:
Legendary Creature – Human Designer (MR)
Brian Tinsman, Set Designer can only be cast during the third set of a block.
When Brian Tinsman, Set Designer enters the battlefield, ignore all flavor and mechanics of the first two sets in the block. "Ok so what do we have here... gothic horror? Scrap it. Expand the Devine Vs. Demonic duel deck to 244 cards and print it!"

Karn was a Golem gone Planeswalker, Nissa is an elven one. Ajani a nacatl. So they're starting to use non-humans I'd LOVE to see a goblin pw! If only Slobad coulda held on to Glissa's spark.
A part of me was hoping we'd see him again in the SOM block rallying forces to fight against his former friend and ally, but I guess the little guy really did make the ultimate sacrifice after all...
A cheap little one or two drop Goblin PW with some self destructive tendencies would be pretty damn fun IMO.
And as far as elves go aesthetically, they're pretty much humans anyway.

Me too! I had hopes for him in NPH, but alas, not even a single Gob. Man, a PW like that would be incredible! I've been trying to come up with something like that that isn't completely broken or useless. I'm not sure that we'd see something like that in a core set though. I think WotC likes to stick with the 'humanesque' walkers for core sets, since they're the sets they like to try and attract new players with. Would be one reason they replaced Ajani with Gideon, makes it easier for them to identify with them
They put the card pictures in at the same time they mentioned DotP 2012... i figured it was because they would be the bew-art promo cards (like garruck and lilliana were b4)
the fact that they did garruck already though might mean its not...
So am I correct in stating that they are probably all reprints, with the possible exception of Chandra? (Who could either be a new card or just have new art. But more likely just has new art.)
That they'd use the existing Gideon is kind of odd, but it's confirmed. Maybe M13 will replace Gideon and Chandra with Elspeth (the new one) and Koth? Unless Chandra actually is new and makes that unnecessary...

Edit: Also Nicol Bolas, haha.
To be fair, old school 'walkers didn't have any given form but rather took on whatever appearance they wanted. Aside from Nicol Bolas there was a dragon looking 'walker in the core of Phyrexia before Yawgmoth took it over, Serra appeared to be an angel, and Urza once mentioned meeting a 'walker who took the form of a pavilion while hiding from another 'walker. Oh, Leshrac looks more like an undead and Tevesh Szat also took on a whole bunch of forms.
Really, the only reason we saw so many human like walkers was because we were on a plane that followed mostly the story of humans.
It would be nice if Wizards made a real trailer instead of mashing together card art in iMovie.
Unless they're able to invest in having high quality artists render those images, I think mashing beautiful still images together is great. Marvel did it with one of their books here and it was a great way to show the story and still keep the beautiful artwork portrayed by those who made the book (or in this case, cards).
A lot is lost in animation. Often times, Japanese animation capitalizes on using still images (and why not). Why use tons of frames to illustrate what one beautifully conceptual piece of art can portray? Hopefully, we'll get artists to create more than just "art" for cards and some of the artists can get to create a storyboard/comic like the x-men still movie.
On a total sidenote.. where is Rebecca Guay? I miss her
It very much looks like to me they're giving us a background story for Gideon. He's from Alara. Otherwise they wouldn't use almost entirely Alara pictures. Besides they clearly show us Gideon is the main focus in Finest Hour.
I'm a bit surprised no one mentioned the confirmation of Gideon being a reprint in M12 as there had been some discussion about whether he might be too complicated for the core set.
He might be too complicated, but we also have to keep in mind that the card they put at the end of the trailer could have just been a placeholder card with the M12 symbol 'shopped in. He might have a new card, he might not. I personally don't think he represents White well enough on his current card to warrant that being his M12 version.

They also show Sorin mixed in with those 5 cards as well...........
Check out the end of the video, where they fan out the planeswalkers: We clearly see Sorin, Jace, Chandra, and Garruk. I watched the video in high resolution, and you can actually see that the art for Chandra lines up with the new art from the M12 announcement. Sorin's definitely lines up with his zendikar card, but Garruk and Jace's art don't appear to match any existing version of their respective cards (unless I'm blind and/or missed some alt version).
So, facts:
Gideon Jura, Sorin Markov reprints in M12
New Chandra art on her PW card
Likely:
New arts for Garruk, Jace
Open to speculation:
New cards for Jace, Garruk, Chandra
What's all this about stuff being "too complicated" for a Core Set? Gideon's a Planeswalker, a Mythic .. so the majority of new players who crack packs aren't even going to see him. Besides, they print all kinds of weird complicated stuff in Core Sets. Remember Mirror of Fate? Granted, they probably wouldn't print a Core Set full of tricky crap like that, but they don't dumb the entire set down just for the masses.

Some folks are still under the asumption that Core Sets are aimed at beginners. It used to be the case, but when they started doing the yearly Core Sets, they started making them "Advanced" product because research found that new players didn't always auto default to Core Sets when getting into the game.

You know thats Rafiq of the Many not Gideon, right?
The stuck Gideon in the art to represent a battle.
