I didn't forget Whipflare. It's just not very good. If it cost one more for a selective Slagstorm instead, it'd make Red playable again, but as-is it doesn't kill sworded creatures and thus does nothing of worth in an artifact deck (which is already not a very powerful deck, after all), and it's not playable outside of artifact decks for obvious reasons.
Razorswine seems solid but suffers from: 1) Red infect being otherwise bad, as Fallen Ferromancer and Ogre Menial are horribly overcosted; and 2) since Black is the infect color, Phyrexian Crusader at the same cost completely rapes it backwards and forwards.
Stoneforge Mystic was a dreadfully obvious mistake, since Wizards knew it was printing incredibly powerful equipment in the next block. There are no excuses for that idiocy.
can people please stop winning over there precious color pies. does it really matter? its kind of childish and pointless.your making magic look dumb. lets discuss relevant things please
Personally I can't wait to get my hands on some of these cards! I want to draft it, use it for a sealed pool, sprinkle it on my bedroom floor and roll around in it...
Wait, did I say that part out loud?
But seriously, thumbs up to WotC. This block is infinitely better than Zendikar, which marked a rather disappointing return to MtG for me. This is way more satisfying.

Um...calling someone else childish when you can't even spell words correctly or use proper spacing, punctuation and capitalization seems a little ironic.
That said...the color pie isn't that bad. Everything seems to stay within its color very well. The biggest arguement is that of Battleskull. That equipment is completely broken with Stoneforge Mystic out there. The ability to put that card into play instantly and uncounterably seems over-the-top unfair.

Aside from poor English skills... you seem to forget that the colour pie is a very important aspect of Magic. Personally, I don't mind if they play with it a bit, but it's important we don't get stuff like Dark Ritual again.

Maybe you should learn what "color pie" means.
Hint: Dark Ritual is a signature example of black's piece of the color pie.
Hint: Dark Ritual is a signature example of black's piece of the color pie.
Actually its an example of neither. Dark Ritual used to be an example of black's portion of the pie, but that trait now belongs to red (ie Seething Song) and black no longer does one-shot mana generation unless its tied to creature sacrifice.
That might be a relevant example here: every so often a set comes along that is intended to push pie boundries. Often times those sets will experiment with several borderline effects they are considering moving to a different color or spreading to another color. Often times one or two of those experiments will work and become regular afterwords, and most won't be revisited.
I'm sure some of the phyrexian pie bleeding will become mainstream, but only a small portion, and probably in areas that help colors with particularly narrow ranges of particular kinds of effects. If there was a creature keyword being bled to blue, that would be an excellent example of something that might become a lasting change to pie distribution.
Actually its an example of neither. Dark Ritual used to be an example of black's portion of the pie, but that trait now belongs to red (ie Seething Song) and black no longer does one-shot mana generation unless its tied to creature sacrifice.
Actually, Black and Red both got a fair bit of it up until TSP block when they resettled the pie. In the 15 sets since, Red has gotten 1 card (Pyretic Ritual) that does that sort of accelerant effect prior to NPH. Honestly, nobody has really had it for years, mostly because it's hard to balance.
The biggest arguement is that of Battleskull. That equipment is completely broken with Stoneforge Mystic out there. The ability to put that card into play instantly and uncounterably seems over-the-top unfair.
Instantly, uncounterably, AND FOR TWO MANA is the problem. It comes into play for 2 mana at instant speed and is a 4/4 vigilant lifelinker....and if you kill it with creature removal, it just needs to be bounced for 3 mana and instantly recast uncounterably for 2. If you try to kill it with artifact removal, it dodges for 3 mana...and is instantly recast uncounterably for 2.
It's an awful example of how Mythic seems to be an excuse for "this card can be completely format-defining". Because that is what it's going to be. This'll probably be the first equipment Caw-Blade runs that's 2-of'd rather than 1-of'd, in case one gets hit by Revoke Existence. It's that broken.
It's obvious Wizards made a conscious decision with these changes to the color pie.
1. Changes for flavor that we have seen since M2010 and have back then been announced very clearly. This covers e. g. all the Praetors.
2. Changes that spread the life loss/life payment and -N/-N as a part of phyrexian identity as established throughout the block. These supercede color identity only insofar as their vast presence in artifacts in this block already made them universally available; hence they will revert.
I considered adding a third point, but these two cover it quite nice.
Aside from poor English skills... you seem to forget that the colour pie is a very important aspect of Magic. Personally, I don't mind if they play with it a bit, but it's important we don't get stuff like Dark Ritual again.
From a color pie perspective Dark Ritual is not bad; the mechanic or its varaints could return to black easily without being too problematic.
The problem is that the card is too strong and would be even if you put it into red for today's pie consideration.
Rituals are pretty rare by choice.

I'm annoyed the entire spoiler came out - the forums are so much more amusing when we're all pining for scraps. Now the entire side of beef has been thrown into the junkyard and all of us dogs are tearin' it up.
Anyways...
My mono-red cannot wait to Dismember some Kor Firewalkers.
I can't wait to Life's Finale in EDH and then Living Death.
I can't wait to Beast Within a Karn Liberated with 14 loyalty.
I can't wiat to Mental Misstep my opponent's Mental Misstep when they cast it on my Aether Vial.
I can't wait to Master's Call twice, then alpha strike after casting Triumph of the Hordes.
I can't wait to draft white/red poison metalcraft.
I can't wait to Mindslaver someone who has an activated ability w/ Phyrexian mana.
I am shocked that I'm happy to see a functional reprint of Necrite.
I can't wait to try mono-black control and fail with it spectacularly.
I can't wait to make a killing trading for the smart money cards at the pre-release.
Come on, folks. What's not to be excited about with this set?

I'm more interested in Karn being IN Green than against it. Karn's existence is the only possible usage for Geosurge that I can see.
Turn 1: Chancellor of the Tangle + a land, Lotus Cobra
Turn 2: Fetchland into Geosurge into Karn
>_>

Also, Blind Zealot is generally better than Necrite. It has intimidate and hits for two before the sacrifice. Necrite does have anti-regen, though.
Afraid this doesn't work, as Karn is not an artifact or creature.
Also, I just re-read something I posted:

with regards to the colour pie, there's a couple of things people need to remember:
1) this set essentially describes a story within a certain setting. this setting may have a different balance (flavour-wise) to other, previous, settings. the way that the colours interact with each other is heavily tied to the story in this set (phyrexians using the five different types of mana).
2) with this in mind, it's important to realise that this "colour pie" is only a guideline, and for every new set, its borders and structure will be slightly different in order to emphasize the flavour of the set.
they are not radically changing the game. it's a flavour thing.

I mean, the spells are pretty balanced this time around BUT they are FREE to cast. 2 Life to counter your Goblin Guide? UHHHHH YEAH. You could pay 4 and it would prolly be a sweet deal. This set is bonkers and it HAS to shake things up.
People who can't evaluate cards complain about everything. Let me tell you that the commons and uncommons are the selling point in this set, meaning it won't sell a lot. Good rares and mythics are hard to come by in this set since there are so many fatties that do nothing in Standard. As for Legacy I see five cards in the entire set, at most.
Do I think any of these are broken in the slightest? Far from it. Do I think that this new phyrexian-mana mechanic is fun? Totally. It allows players to splash cards that they normally couldn't use and it changes deck strategies completely.
The dream play being that a newbie scoff at your feeble 0/4, goes to equip his awesomesauce Sowrd of feast and famine, you activate the abiloity and get a nice 2/6 and go to town beating him over with his own sword.
