It could be something totally unrelated, of course, but the other Relic we've had that's about that size is Coalition Relic. New take on Darksteel Ingot with charge counters?
I think it is going to be a new type of Eldrazi Monument but with metalcraft.
Maybe permanents you control are indestructible as long as you control 3 or more artifacts? Maybe only indestructible creatures/artifacts? Another possibility is that it makes your creatures immunes to counters (infect). Either way it will be a legendary artifact.
There isn't anything in the little story blurb that tells me that this is some kind of mana artifact. Plus, we have a number of other mana artifacts right now, with the last one being in besieged. How would this distinguish itself from things we have seen just recently (other than just being indestructible)? The picture in Withstand death does show something similar, though the size and markings on each are definitely different. I do wonder if this would be a Liquimetal coating kind of thing, except it makes the target indestructible. Maybe target artifact is indestructible? Not especially great, but we'll see soon enough I suppose.
im thinking its gonna be similar to a sensei's divining top top deal. it doesnt talk about power like most mana cards do. it talks about knowledge like the crystal ball, top, darksteel ingot type cards do.
Why would it be sensei's? That card single handedly makes tournaments where it's legal take significantly longer. It's also one of the most powerful one drops that isn't quite ban able. If it is sensei's, I would say that is a huge mistake on R&Ds part.
I would guess it isn't going to be a piece of equipment. The image is similar in format to the moxes, the trigons and tumble magnet (hands holding an item), none of which are equipment. See also: Squee's Toy, Coalition Relic, etc...
An activated ability I'd like to see on something in the new set is:
:symtap:: Target creature loses infect until EOT.
though that doesn't quite fit the flavor of the back story (not really "calming" and the Relic was seemingly made before the Phyrexians showed themselves i.e. no need to remove infect).

The art doesn't appear to be by Volkan Baga, so I doubt it's the 'mox' some people think it is (it looks a lot like his work on the mox series though).
If this is a mana rock (which is slightly doubtful) I can't see how you have this 1) avoid being overpowered and 2) not overlap with another card.
It'd be indestructible and probably produce colorless. We can say
~ is indestructible.
{T} : add {1} to your mana pool.
is not a terrible bet.
This could cost 1 or 2. For the epic closeup art, costing 2 seems unlikely (mind stone and prismatic lens were commons). I'd love the following
Darksteel Relic {1}
Legendary Artifact
Darksteel Relic is indestructible.
{T} : add {1} to your mana pool.
The legendary is there just because it reduces the cost slightly and it doesn't matter to me (i play edh).
This is probably still overpowered.
Other guess:
Darksteel Relic {2}
Legendary Artifact
Darksteel Relic is indestructible.
{T} : Target creature is indestructible till end of turn
Both this art and withstand death's art show a small disk of metal with swirling light around it. I dont think this is coincidence. Yes the sizes are slightly different but I think we can chalk that up to different artist interpretations. Since withstand death makes things indestructible I think it stands to reason this relic will also help us defend things. A liquimetal coating for indestructible might work or perhaps something even better, "All artifacts and equiped creatures you control are indestructible" seems really good but doable on a 3 or 4 mana legendary artifact that they want to show off.

I think a effect like that is impossible. Not only because a "talisman" etc. like that do improves creatures permanent's you own. You don't throw your relic against the creatures your opponent controls
But maybe you're on the right way with s/t like:
- tap: target creature can't have counter's placed on it until end of turn.
or
- tap: target creature get's indestructible until end of turn.
Everything Darksteel has the light swirling around it.....
Good point.... I never noticed that.

Or Pacifism on a stick, although that steps on Tumble Magnet's toes a little.
Wow. Can you imagine Oblivion Ring as an artifact? That would be FRICKIN' AWESOMELY COOL. For balance purposes, it would probably be Legendary or 4, but it would get some serious love regardless.
I would guess that it doe exactly what Darksteel Plate does, had Plate not been printed before. The last line of the blurb makes me think it's an equipment, and it seems to make its wielder stronger or more invulnerable in some way.
+1/+1 counter are not going to be permitted in this block because it will confuse players.
If you look closely, they said "gets +1/+1 for each -1/-1 counter". It's not a counter for counter. Basically the artifact would completely nullify the effects of Infect.

Based on the attached text, I would love to see something like this:
Darksteel Relic 2
Artifact (C)
Darksteel Relic is indestructible.
T: Take a deep breath. Relax. Look at the game state. See what permanents you and your opponents control, what abilities they have, what triggers you each control (both optional and mandatory), and how they interact with each other. Count how many cards are in your hand, and read each card in your hand that you haven't read this game. Think about what you're doing, and what you're trying to do. Take another deep breath. You can do this.

It is similar aesthetically, but is much smaller.
I really like the art of darksteel cards. I'll be curious to see if this is an actual usable card, or another throwaway card like Maritime Guard was.
I agree, although it could be that artist's interpretation of the trinket.
On another note, for those who follow the storyline what is the thing the guy is holding in Withstand Death
That's a Darksteel Frisbee.
I love this short story, the Darksteel Relic could be legendary.

One interesting bit of flavor is the Leonin Relic-Warder.
It could be a "Humble Magnet":
