Surgical Extraction is only worth playing when you're getting a card out of it. Sure it's nice to Cranial someone's Jaces or Swords or whatever away, but the value of that play is so tiny unless you're stripping it from their hand, or they would've been manipulating their graveyard. If Vamps is a real deck, nuking Bloodghast might be worthwhile. If Vengevine is a deck, nuking it might be worthwhile. Turn 1 Duress + Extraction isn't. The only time I'd want this in a Blue mirror is after my opponent Mana Leaks and I know they're holding more... and the number of playable counters (Deprive, Leak, Pierce, Rebuttal...) makes even that line less likely.
Wow. This card is...good. Doesn't target, has an alternate casting cost with a relevant ability. This will probably see play in Legacy too. I like it a lot.
This will be expensive too since it can go in any deck that wants to play it. I'd be surprised if it didn't start out in double digits and stay there for a long time.
So now we have Sadistic SacramentMemoricide and Surgical Extraction. Along with IOK and Duress, all we need now is like a 5/5 tramply boots that makes my opponent sac a bunch of stuff when they try and kill him... WAIT we got that too. MBC is gonna be bonkers.

well this card is so seriously overpriced right now idk what to think.... it seems good, but would you have 4 spots in your deck to put this in for? idk, seems a bit overrated..... $12.49????????????????????????????????????????? wth..

Maybe, similar cards like extirpate and ravenous trap barely even see play in eternal formats I don't know why this would be any exception. Although the fact that it hits non basics may prove me wrong, since you can wasteland and potentially hose a color.

I'm showing almost $100 on eBay completed listings. But yeah even $12 seems over priced especially at rare and promo.
12.50 isn't that surprising given that every deck can play it and the hype that is attached to this. Wouldn't be surprised if the price went up or down.

Or side to side ! Sorry, but where else would it go? My guess is that it's price will depend on how good the rest of the set is.
Sugical Extraction seems a little ridiculous. It's playable in anything. At least High Tide has a wish target against Dredge/graveyard-based decks now.

Guys, guys. Extirpate is actually notoriously bad. Unless you get lucky and nail a copy in their hand, it often does nothing to actually affect the game. Seems bad to cough up 2 life and a card for.
I wish my 4/4s with haste and first strike that acted as Goblin Warchiefs were better and didn't die to instants and overshadowed all other 4 drops in the format. And that they had evasion too, and some way to dodge wrath effects.

Screws lands pretty hard. You don't have a loam? Shut up then.
I've also had some other techy plays with it. (hit force after an enlightened tutor resolved, when he survival'd at EOT...) If I can use it well, who can't?

It's kind of another moment when we throw our hands up and go "DAMMIT universe, why you gotta always make me look bad in front of everyone?".
Extirpate saw basically zero Standard play. It was a silver bullet in Teachings decks, you know, the deck that could search for an instant eight times in a single game?
This card is good. It has sideboard applications all over. But it's still a purely responsive sideboard card that has the possibility of putting you down on card advantage.
So... not sure why people are going hog wild over it. It serves a very small niche. It's good at what it does, but you won't often want slots for that effect in Standard.

I've been a U/B control player since Rotation, and I have a friend who has been playing U/W Control (real control, not Caw-Blade) since M11. Both of us are planning on dedicating 2-3 slots for this card.
-Against Valakut, Tec-Edge their Valakut and now it's just a deck with mana and beaters.
-Also against Valakut, counter Prime Time, let them cast summoning trap, and in response hit all the Green Titans in the deck, not only getting rid of their biggest threat but also greatly increasing the chances of them whiffing on the trap.
-Against Caw-Blade, U/B's biggest problem is that Hawks are incredibly difficult to stop from resolving, and once it's resolved they have creatures for the rest of the game. But now if you kill one Hawk, you can hit the rest from their hand. It's technically still a 2-for-1 in their favor, but I think it greatly increases our matchup.
-Against Quest, IoK or duress a quest turn one, then pay two life to transform them into a really clunky WW aggro deck that scoops to a board sweeper.
-Graveyard hate is nice against Bloodghast/Vengevine, but it was originally so niche that it wasn't worth dedicating spots to (if they were REALLY that big a deal, just switch to playing Valakut instead and smash them). But obviously, this has other uses outside of this matchup.
It's not that good against aggro aside from Vamps/VV, and it's not amazing against control/RUG, but that's why it's not a mainboard card. Definitely worth the slots.

I think side to side makes it cost imaginary money. Can't wait to buy my playset with all that money I made from Parkplace.

I don't think it's gonna break Standard in half, per se, although ramp decks might wanna pay attention.
