I know it probably means nothing, but since both Lightning Bolt and Giant Growth are both among the original "3 for 1" design of alpha/beta/etc. (along with Dark Ritual, Healing Salve, and Ancestral Recall. Balanced, 3 life and 3 cards!) perhaps it gives merit to the speculation that Lightning Bolt will be getting the cut along with Giant Growth, leaving none of these original cards among the base sets?

I hope they keep Giant Spider and add a shiny new green instant pump spell in the common slot 1G +3+3 cantrip maybe (lol). Giant Growth is played out, it's unplayable in constructed, and if it makes the cut in my limited deck it usually means I made a terrible mistake somewhere along the line and switched gears too late.
Giant Spider has become a lot weaker with the pumping of creatures. Also strong tricks at common promote better drafts. We need a replacement spider- something like "3G: 1/6 reach"
If they don't reprint Lightning Bolt, then there's a good chance that they won't reprint Giant Growth. They're both relatively similar on power level, and Giant Growth poses the same problem for one drop green pump spells other than itself that Lightning Bolt poses for one drop red burn spells.
That said, Giant Spider truly is less desirable than Giant Growth.
This thread is for competitive decks only. Your deck is not Grixis Control, as you said yourself. A serious decklist with shroud and counterspells belongs here, not a for fun/casual decklist with bad discard. Sorry, but your princess is in another castle.
Woolly has always been a pet card of mine. I think it would be a fair trade. It costs one less at the expense of being more color intensive. It sets back as a better blocker for what is made to defend against, but is more fragile outside it's spiderly "ambush the flier" role.
I hope Giant Growth goes. It's a pretty bad card in and out of limited, whereas Spidey is goddamned stellar where he's supposed to be played. And that matters to me.
Of course, it doesn't absolutely matter what spider there is, I just demand a good common spider!

Giant Growth will be gone. Insta-pump in general is pretty outrageous with Infect...it just hasn't been scaled to account for "10 damage now wins" environment. Wouldn't be surprised if we eventually see some of these banned in block-constructed.
with Blight Widow I can't imagine them reprinting Giant Spider. It's strictly better imo. Same thing with Mind Control, expect it to rotate because of Corrupted Conscience.

I find it amusing that the two cards that have made it this far are both green cards with the word "Giant" in their names. Thinking of the two side-by-side, I have to conclude that an ordinary (pre-Giant-icizing) spider is a -1/1 creature with Reach.
I would love a Rancor reprint. Yes it's format warping, but that's not a bad thing; having cards come in that warp the format is actually kind of cool as long as they aren't unanswerable. It'd possibly make Infect a tier 1 deck (with whatever support is also coming in New Phyrexia), but having Infect be a tier 1 deck for a rotation is probably a good thing.
I think Giant Growth will probably be the one to stay if one gets the boot. There are plenty of other spiders they can reprint if they need to reprint one, or they could make a new spider all together, either way as long as green has a solid reach creature I don't think there will be much of an issue.

I haven't changed by signature since Mirrodin Besieged spoilers started!
I can't believe the controversy these 2 innocent cards have created. But Im glad they have. These two cards bring warm memories to me, when Ironroot Treefolk and Wall of Wood were staples in my green decks.
I don't want to lose any of these 2 cards. WotC, please keep both of them.

They'll be replaced with further limited fodder, and both are great in limited, especially the Spider.

Probably not a good idea with Infect in T2.

infect needs rancor, it would be so much better!
fixed for you, no need to thank me.
there are very few creatures that cannot be improved by rancor.

Of course this wouldn't happen.
