Yeah just finished reading this. From the sounds of it, it's definilty worth a try. Sucks I will have to sit there and wait for the 1gig to download but if it's a good as he is saying then it probably will be worth it. I agree with the other poster as well that I'm not going to probably put money into it, digital product just isn't my thing.

The king of Yavimaya's waters pays constant attention to his subjects . . . and thrives on their adulation.
How did he sound like an idiot? This game isn't just for Magic players, its made to attract new gamers too. As a magic player, you shouldn't care that he didn't specifically say "You can travel to Urborg". However, as someone that knows nothing about the game, if the told me I could travel to the plane of Ravnica, I'd be confused as hell. They definitely made the right choice there.
He sounded like an idiot because the things he said made it very obvious he knew next to nothing about Magic.
And if you heard an unfamiliar Magic place, you'd be confused and disinterested? You wouldn't be curious and excited to learn more about that place? Maybe you shouldn't be a gamer.
So you would be confused if someone told you that you would be traveling to Hyrule in any Legend of Zelda game? Or Zebes in any Metroid game?
Thats a horrible comparison as its not cross-platform.
This game is advertisement for the paper game, therefore the advertisement for the game is meant to cater more towards non-magic players.
Greens only been good in magic's later run, at least for a dominant deck color.

RnD during Time Spiral:
Rosewater: "Color Pie, WTF is that, If I want Black to be able to wrath, counter and have green creatures then I will damnit!"
Random RnD guy: "RED AKORMA! FTW!"
Gleemax: "Rosewater has broken out of my mind control!"
RnD after 2008:
MaRo: Hmm how do we fix the problems of pricing with cards like Tarmogoyf and Thoughtsieze
Random RnD Guy: OO lets make a new RED RARITY SYMBOL!
MARO: OMGWTFBBQ! Thats a great idea, we'll call it Mythic Rarity!
Gleemax: NOT AGAIN! CELEB
I predict this will go the way of Magic the Gathering: Battlegrounds. Quickly.
I just don't understand the need to force MtG into this sort of format.
Reminds me of "Battle-Chess" back in the 80's. Wow..that's kinda neat. Now let's just go play some Chess. Never gets played again.
DotP 'works' because, though digital, it's still basically a game of Magic. Tactics appears to be a completely different game than Magic, despite all the trappings.
I saw a Clockwork Griffin in the collection. Is that a card yet?
no closest thing is clockwork avian to that specific card, im wondering if we have just seen a MBS card or just another red herring pic from the game.

"On top of that, if you ever manage to T2 Lead the Stampede, fill your hand, and pitch two Vengevines on your cleanup phase, the sky rains kittens wearing tophats, each carrying a sock full of quarters. True story."
I'll play it, who knows it might be really fun. I doubt I will ever pay money for anything but I can see myself having a lot of fun with this. The talent tree's seem interesting.

"It was probably a lousy spell in the first place."

- "***** ***** *****"
- "whine whine whine!"
- "it sucks it sucks it sucks"
- "Doesn't know anything about Magic"
- "why doesn't he refer to every last thing by name! Only n00bs say or use basic lands!"
- "blah blah blah, not exactly 100% what I want it to be"
- "I enjoy judging things completely without out ever experiencing it!"
- "This is the worst thing to happen to Magic ever."
- "Jace is not an iconic blue Planeswalker"....(somebody actually said this)
I paraphrased a bit, but that's the jest of this thread.
How about this. Instead of relentless complaining about something you haven't even tested, why don't we just reserve judgment until we test it out.
It could be good, it could be bad. I'm almost certain it is a money sink in the long run, but so is our lovable card game. It is possible that this can be fun, and hell, it's free so we can all give it a whirl! If it isn't, oh well, go back to your day job.
I know the internet is a nice place make fun of things, by which you feel automatically empowered, but sometimes it just comes off as asinine.
Interesting find. This just seems to further the notion that the people behind this game have no idea what they're doing.
You do realize that the pics in question are just art asset pics, right?
It's quite possible that when those SPELLS are cast that the iconic character from the art is part of the spell effect for the spell right?
Like for Telling Time's "Keeper of the Hourglass" it could very well just animate her in front the view of the screen and show her flipping the hourglass in her hand or something to demonstrate the spell effect.
It's not exactly a spell that can use generic art assets like Doom Blade or Fireball - so either they'd need to incorporate something with the existing art (likely and more slick in appearance) or not give it ANY art assets. (which seems unlikely in this day and age)
Also note, SOE-Denver who's in head of this were the creators of Legends of Norrath - which was handled quite well, especially in the scenarios they created for the first few expansions - started sucking later, but the launch was quite solid.
Now thaw out of the way, this from what I can tell inludes things that folks cried for on the DotPW games, mainly the making the deck your own. But this should hopefully bring in new players (oh no!!!!)
I played through the demo with a SOE rep when I was at E3 over the summer.. the graphics are actually very smooth and sharp, but the animations are equally "smooth" and thus a little stale and slow. The game play is mostly mouse/click based, and since everything is rather large, it just felt slightly clunky to me. I think if you're used to slower battle tactics games, this will be decent. A friend of mine pointed out that this game is essentially an updated remake of PoxNora, also made by SOE... maybe it was an inspiration or at least part of the reason they got the project?
Well, guess what. I actually liked Battlegrounds and wish they'd have made a sequel. Still, I understand that I'm in the minority on this one, so I'm fine with just having another weird MtG game. The only downside it may have for me is the amounts of money you must pay to actually enjoy the game. I've tried enough online games in the past, and I'm not sure I'm ready to spend money on the game that may die out in a year or two.

No, they really didn't. He made it very obvious that hes doing a promotional video for the general population, and not just the current MTG players, to attempt to convince them to buy the game.
No, I wouldn't be curious if they started spouting off a ton of names, especially if I had heard a bit about Magic and knew about Forests, Swamps and such. They definitely went the right direction, and I'm honestly really confused, but not surprised, that people would ***** and moan about this too.

I'm pretty sure what was meant by the depth comment was that a grid battle system is more complex because the position of creatures on the battlefield matters. He wasn't thinking about the number of cards magic has, it was more of a comment on how a grid battle system adds complexity.

Computer gaming could stand to have another decent turn-based tactics game. Don't think of it as a Magic game, think of it as a game with a Mtg theme pasted on. If you wouldn't play a TBT game in any case, then this isn't for you.

The fact that he says "Plainswalker" and not "Planeswalker" makes me seriously doubt him lol.
lol nah thats just typo. Some lines above that one he did mentioned 'planeswalker'. He's a GP event coverage guy for god's sake:D
Let's just hope the booster price is cheap since this doesn't have any redeem function or anything.
