im actually kinda impressed by the rats. in a certain way the card is alot like this "when this etb each player loses 2 life. 4/1" for 1BB. thats a pretty damn fast clock, particularly for a black deck. maybe poison aggro will be viable.
The re-imagining of the myr are amazing. I'm in love with that art.
Thrummingbird feels a little too weak for a proliferate deck. a 1/1 for two is under the curve and easily burned away. Ichorclaw Myr, however...is amazing. A pain if you don't block it, and a major annoyance if you do block it.
Clone Shell: I had a feeling Imprint was coming back. I was hoping for Affinity, but Imprint is cool too. I also like cheating things into play, so this looks like fun.
Steel Hellkite: Even though the picture isn't very clear, I love the artwork. I'm not going to comment about the power level, but it certainly looks powerful.
Memnite: Awwww how cute! I can think of so many used for this thing.
Isn't Geth's head on one of these things?
Ezuri's Bregade: An 8/8 trampler when you have 3 Tree of Tales...Oh, wait, we're not talking about that. It seems like an easy enough trigger condition to meet in an artifact block. Not my kind of thing though, but nice enough.
Venser the Sojourner: He's all that everyone in this thread cares about, so I have nothing to add. He's not watermarked, If that significant at all.
Well, the blink ability is 'eot' not immediate, but it is still an interesting function of the card.
You can use it on him, then wipe the board with AID or something.
True, I fixed my OP. I really like that idea actually, especially if there is a distinct lack of good removal in the set.

Think about it this way:
Turn 2 Thrummingbird
Turn 3 Rats, swing thrummingbird, they now have 2 poison.
The other thing to note about thrummingbird is that if rats (or any infect) connects in the same combat a thrummingbird does, proliferate will see the newly added poison, so thrummingbird could deliver the ko.

Of course, got a weird rulings question - tokens that come from spells/effects you control are owned by you I'm 95% sure - but what about tokens from those oddball spells that give tokens to both players, who's considered the owner for cards like Venser in that case?
They changed this in M10. Now the owner of a token is whoever controlled it when it ETB.
PS - Charlequin, are you like me and the only thing you could want to make him "perfect" would be to be able to use his +2 as an instant?
My inner (and outer?) Johnny will definitely be happy when PW abilities join the long list of things that you can cheat and play as instants.
Thrummingbird: 1/1 flyers for 2 are historically unplayable. I don't see this changing that.
Ichorclaw Myr: A 1/1 for 2 that pumps up in combat or deals a poison counter if you let it through. Pretty neat design, although Deathtouch would also fit.
I'm a Standard player first and foremost, but I can say that this seems like a fun limited format already.
holy crap this is a nutty set the thrumming bird is awesome, the brigade is just to good.

SCG is preordering venser for 25 bucks if anyone is interested... *sigh* thats way too high priced for me
They are always keeping an eye on us. Heh. Doesn't mean much though as many stores don't honor presales anymore. They'll just say they are out and then jack up the price.
Next Level Bant is losing 8-10 cards and will still be a deck post-rotation if there is any way possible to play consistent 3 color decks. This is where he fits perfectly as a one or two of. The +2 Blinking Obstinate Baloth, Stoneforge Mystic, Sphinx of Lost Truths, Acidic Slime, Sun Titan, Sea Gate Oracle, etc. seem pretty freaking incredible to me (Mostly Acidic Slime surprisingly. Killing 2 lands while ramping is crushing) The -1 is a game winner in this deck. The ultimate is just icing on the cake.
I definitely see its high cost being a hindrance in U/W and think that he will undoubtedly fit best in Bant decks that can ramp to him.

This shouldn't happen to Venser. I really don't see him taking off, if he ever does, until the set has been out for a little while and people have had time to playtest him.
I'm so glad Venser doesn't have an affiliation (as far as I can tell), axing those who kept insisting every card in the set was affiliated. I never did see proof of that statement, and now the proof is in the pudding.
In an eight player game, is anything good? Don't you just sit there countering combos until someone genesis waves for 42 after all the blue players tap out fighting over a bribery?

Agreed to some extent. I still think that Venser will hover at least around thirty dollars for a good amount of time, and this is without even tasting the format.

WoTC said every card was affiliated. I wouldn't be surprised if every card *not including the planeswalkers* was affiliated.
That would make sense.

I don't believe anyone has mentioned that Thrummingbird is blue and has a Phyrexian watermark. Phyrexia is not mono black.
Also, Birds and Horrors are returning as types
+ this proves proliferate will be versatile. It'll be on creatures, maybe instants, who knows what else?
The T2 Bird T3 Ichor rat play seems pretty awesome too
I'm amused by the interaction between Thrumming Bird and Venser. -1, unblockable Bird, connect, Proliferate a counter back on Venser. In multiples and with other Proliferate effects, it could help build to that -8 ability.
WoTC said every card was affiliated. I wouldn't be surprised if every card *not including the planeswalkers* was affiliated.
And in fact, evey card we've seen that isn't a planeswalker has a watermark, even when it has nothing to do with the set's themes or mechanics. It's likely that WotC just considers basic land (which are part of every set) and planeswalkers (which they've always treated as somewhat removed from the sets and settings they appear in) to "not count" as part of "everything."
Agreed to some extent. I still think that Venser will hover at least around thirty dollars for a good amount of time, and this is without even tasting the format.
If I remember correctly, Sarkhan Vol did the same thing, so I guess that theory is plausible. Venser really turns me off competitively though. Seems so much more fun as an EDH card. =/
Mama Myrs: Nice to have and good artwork, but more interesting is that some Myr are on the Mirran side while others side with Phyrexia. Significant? Maybe.
My inner (and outer?) Johnny will definitely be happy when PW abilities join the long list of things that you can cheat and play as instants.
His ability specifically would be so saucy as an instant effect - I dream of the day when I can trigger a bounce with him on various nightmare effects (i.e. Oblivion Ring) already.
Not to mention other hijinks - but I love "nightmare" bouncing.

The only myr currently aligned with Phyrexia has done so because it is "infected," so to speak. My guess is that this will be happening to other creatures in Mirrodin as well, especially the nim and other denizens of the Dross.

Thrummingbird: Great name, cheapest proliferate we've seen so far (out of 2 lol) edit: alright! Phyrexians aren't pure B!
Ichorclaw Myr: -1/-1 counter trick, pretty neat
