Just confirmed by Captain Black in the Number Crunch thread. Feel free to speculate on the name based on Orb results. One poster suggests "Torn Field", based on the current Orb results.
In comes the obligitory "well it's nice for EDH..." I play a lot of 5-color so I don't mind... but still, why bother having this be a functional reprint?
It's really nice for budget landfall, as well. Yes, I'm talking about casual variants with things like Rampaging Baloths, not screaming aggro like Bushwhacker.
This is certainly an odd choice for a rename. Terramorphic Expanse is a pretty neutral name in flavor, so I think it fits well in the flavor-neutral Core Set. I also don't think it would be out of place in Rise of the Eldrazi. My guess is that the name change would be to make it fit even better for Rise of the Eldrazi's setting, rather than a better name for a Core Set.
With that hypothesis, I would guess the name of the new land would reference the Roil? Roiling Something? Or Zendikar Something? I don't have acccess to the Orb right now.
@flaming infinity: Yeah, the problem about this and TE in Koros/Bushwhacker is the fact that you can`t use the mana right away, but TE is a 3-of in the deck.
Is the thing "just" a functional reprint or better/worse than TE? Like tap, add 1 or the panoramas?
I doubt they'll both be in M11. Along with uncommon duals we pretty much always have in standard we should have enough budget fixing.
[quoteI wonder why it just wasn't a reprint. We're apparently allowed to run 8 Terramorphic Expanse. And 16 Grizzly Bears in standard.[/quote] I think running 8 was the whole point of the functional reprint. Now, as for the 16 Grizzly Bears, it doesn't matter because no one runs them outside of limited, anyway. They could functional reprint them every other set and it wouldn't matter.
All a part of the WotC conspiracy to make people play cards with the new "Enters the battlefield" wording rather than just playing my Time Spiral Terramorphics.
Anyone else looking forward to 16BEAR-8EXPANSE.dec?
Ugh. Try that out and see what it does to your opening tempo. It's a great card, but a ton of ETBT lands will sloooow yoooou doooooooown if you rely on them too heavily. 8 out of 24 is really pushing it in my experience, in a lot of decks. (not all)
To me the only concievable reason is that 'Terramorphic Expanse' is not 'Mirrodin-y' enough of a name or something. They want one that sounds more metal-world or something?
But honestly, this announcement just makes no sense to me. At all.
I already run full sets of Terramorphic Expanse, Bant Panorama, and Misty Rainforest in my casual Landfall deck. Frankly, I don't have enough room for these. Maybe 2?
If nothing else, I'll replace the TEs with the new thing for flavor reasons.
It's widely known that [EDH] is very broken. Building a superdeck is quite easy. So what defines you as a player is [...] how you show restraint and creativity while still remaining a competitive player and a good sport.
the only problem with urza is that he is an oldwalker, so its abilities would be like:
+3: remove up to ten target permanents from the play
-2: win the game
-8: kick your opponents in the face, then win the game
starting loyalty: 100
Here one good thing about it being a functional reprint. It works well with Realms Uncharted, because it gets one more different named land into the mix. go and get Arid Mesa, Scalding tarn, T expanse and this card..... Knight of Reliquary likes the outcome

Back at the bar, when you thought we were getting all palsy-walsy, I was actually flipping through that sorry mind you call an organizer looking for dirt! You know what we call THAT? MIND-TAKING, BABY! ACCEPT NO SUBSTITUTES!
I'm guessing it's supposed to add additional options for interactions with with landfall... I already often run 2-3 of them in 3-color decks, and I might shift to more if I were to explore a 4-color landfall deck.

There are two types of people in this world: people who think that countermagic is the most powerful effect in the game and people who aren't morons.
My color is Purple. I value diversity, smashed color pies and obsolete Inquest articles. At my best, I can redefine MTG in a new and wonderful way. At my worst, I can end up as an Unhinged joke. My symbol is not defined. My enemies are 5 old and bureaucratic angry colors.

Maybe it will also have TAP: add 1 to your mana pool? Would make it better later in the game.

Apparently JUST a functional reprint. No extras, no changes other than the name.

It's word-for-word the same barring the name difference.
No, I mean casual landfall can run the full 8.
Really, a functional reprint of Terramorphic Expanse? I, um, sure, why not.

This probably means terramorphic won't get a reprint in M11
Accept the truth.
Otherwise, what? Why do we need 8 common fetches in standard? are they going to ban the fetches or something?
