why does wizards insist on sorcery speed stuff? FoD has shown us that instant speed level up could be very competitive.
Transmute could also be instant-speed. Since its purpose is basically tutoring, there are plenty stuff that can tutor at instant speed. Gifts Ungiven or Intuition for example.
Actually annihilator should not be capitalized here as it's the 3rd item in a list of abilities. See Akroma, Angel of Wrath.
The leveler creature is odd. Seems underwhelming for a release card, you get a 3/3 for 4? that could be a 6/6 for 6 over two turns, but then can also be a 6/6 that deals 6 damage whenever it attacks to the defending player's creatures for 9RRRRRRR? That's strange if real.
[strike]Calling fake based on the second card as the ability is confirmed to be Leveler, not "Level Up" as first rumored.[/strike] (ok follow up, he posted scan of the promo. Guessing he just couldn't read "Leveler" and assumed it was "Level up")
Asking out a girl is like trying to cast a first turn Necropotence. Sometimes the other player will have the Force of Will to say no. You shouldn't let that stop you from trying it.
Oh, I'm not toying with anyone, haha. The Casual games I play can be so awkward that an infinite turn loop that forces six sacrifices may still not even give me the W. A friend's deck with Squirrels and Eldrazi Monument comes to mind.
You'll have to forgive me. I have a bad habit of forgetting about the crazy decks casual produces.
Or if you have just the Assassin in play. Eldrazi X attacks, annihilator goes on stack, tap Assassin in response, profit...
Or. Tap the Royal Assassin right after you receive priority when Emrakul comes into play, completely avoiding kicking your own ass by not allowing your opponent to enter the battle step and stack annihilator.
This whole level up thing is just ridiculous to me. Oh and at all who think this Eldrazi is awesome: Kozilek has style but this piece of brokenness is just too much for my nerves...stupid kiddie card. WotC game designer: "Hey let's print some REAL stuff, not that Krosan Skyscraper, Darksteel Colossus or Dark Depths crap. Progenitus was kinda all right but let's just face it: People wanna see hardcore. Even if we print cool stuff with evasion it's still not enough on the long shot...We need real idiot-proof cards. It doesn't matter if we have to create huge drawbacks and unbelievably long card texts to make these cards acceptable...in fact it seems to me that it might even be necessary if we want to maintain our cash flow in the future." (that's probably what's going on in their twisted minds) Magic: The Gathering 1993 - 2010 "Rest in Peace. I miss you."
Why are you hating on the TIMMY! WotC printed these cards not only to be played with competitley, but also to be for casual. Dark depths was not crap, nor was the Colossus. They both fit into the story of their sets. All of these cards are important to the story line. This card has potential for all 4 types of players. Full of flavor, huge, will be somehow cheated into play and used in a good deck for spike eventually.
EDIT: I feel the same way many people do about this new set. I think that totem armor and rebound, and especially level up. They just dont feel like magic anymore. Either magic is entering a new "era" or, magic is just going through a second puberty.
Have we seen the rules text for Leveler? Do we know that creatures level up only when the "level up cost" is paid? Or is it possible that other events also cause a creature to level up? I would guess that creatures with leveler levels up when any of the following occur:
1) The Level Up cost is paid
2) It deals combat damage to a player
3) It deals lethal damage to a creature
To me the above gives much more flavor to leveler.
This makes the spoiler card go from meh to interesting. If you really have to level him up 6 times by paying the leveler cost, its not really that much different from using the phrase "if this is the xth time this ability has resolved..." which we have seen before, so between cards with that phrase and FoD, leveler would be giving us nothing new.
Why are there multiple people in this thread saying to run the Eldrazi in Standard Dredge?
Yes, Standard Dredge produces an average of 15 mana on turn 4,5 or 6 through Crypting. It does so by having a full graveyard due to self-milling. If you hit this guy while self-milling, you lose all of that in a heartbeat, and probably lose the game (since the standard dredge deck is incredibly fragile). If you manage to mill yourself into 15 dead creatures, with this guy in your hand, sure, awesome, hardcast him and do a victory-lap. But the likelihood of that happening VS self-sabotage seems low.
I guess if you re-focused the deck on cycling creatures it would play nice, but that seems like it'd hurt the speed and consistency of its primary victory rout.
Emmara is like the worst parts of Legends and Homelands got pregnant, aborted the fetus, tossed it in the trashcan, set it on fire and wrapped the corpse in a Dragon's Maze pack wrapper.
Or. Tap the Royal Assassin right after you receive priority when Emrakul comes into play, completely avoiding kicking your own ass by not allowing your opponent to enter the battle step and stack annihilator.
Come on, Royal Assassin is one of the oldest cards around...only TAPPED creatures...
They finally made a Chuck Norris magic card!
Emrakul is going in my Oath deck in place of Progenitus, even if I don't get to take an extra turn. Oh well, that is what the time vault and voltaic key are for. And if I go camping anytime soon I am taking this card, in case a bear attacks me.
Just wanted to get a confirmation on earlier posts from someone more savvy with rules then I, does O-ring and Journey to Nowhere take this thing out?
My U/R polymorph deck just started drooling. Its certainly replaceing proggy in the board, but depending on the colorless cards we see, it might even be maindecked.

The candles burn out for you; I am free.
edit: if you have 6 other permanents...

There are ways to deal with it and there may be some in RoE as well

u can shriekmaw him....just after i take another turn, bash for 15, and make u sac 6 perms.... :>
Note to self: post-RotE, make sure to nuke Elvish Piper the moment it touches the battlefield.
WUBRG
does not work

Even so, you still have to sacrifice permanents.
Triggers exist on the stack independent of their sources.
