So people have been complaining about having to get too high on the level for these cards to do anything. Now we have one that does something early on and we have to sink more mana into it.
I'm really starting to sympathise for the spikes, but yet even if they spoiled the most awesome card ever they'd still whine.
This is a limited card. A standard 3-4 mana pinger would be too strong in an environment filled with 1/1 creatures that level up. Coming online turn 4 in limited is still really good though.
Gray bear with a decent ability. Workable in limited, unplayable in constructed.

The Sage is occupied with the unspoken
and acts without effort.
Teaching without verbosity,
producing without possessing,
creating without regard to result,
claiming nothing,
the Sage has nothing to lose.
This will be amazing in limited formats, period. Too spendy for Constructed, but he'll hit 'ultimate' in limited enough to completely change games around.
I'm liking this for limited. It'll take a bit of time to bring it up to full bore, but it'll kill off Eldrazi spawn tokens in the meantime, making a primo defensive creature. Combine this with the red Elemental wall, and you've got a hell of a clock without ever needing to swing!
Seriously, wizards? Seriously? What a horrible card.
I'm not spending SEVEN MANA on a Tim. I'm certainly not spending 15 mana on a super-Tim.
Every single leveling card is jank, until later this year when the Format of Removal rotates out. There are 8+ ways to kill this guy, and every leveler, before they're even remotely dangerous, and you're wasting your mana at sorcery speed, denying yourself more board advantage.
Bolt on a stick for 15 mana? Limited bomb. Anything else? Nah. These levelers are here to pace (and ultimately slow down) limited until Eldrazi hits so all the people doing drafts and sealed can go..."AND NOW!"[insert Emarkul]
Okay, so.... What is with all the art on these things? So far, it really reminds me on a sexified, updated, digitally enhanced version of Homelands. The goofy portraits are all very weird and remind me of those people that actually dress up to play D&D and talk in medieval accents when they aren't working at Intel.
This is first pickable in limited. Heck, he could win games on his own in Limited. Constructed, not so much. I haven't really liked any of the levelers very much so far. This I like.
WHY WOTC WHY?! Why can't we have Gilder Bairn in standard still or at least a reprint of Doubling Season? These cards are begging for a card that gives them x2 the counters they would normally receive.
Or at least reprint the Heartstone for christ sake (Unless it isn't an activated ability then DON'T)
Maybe a Braid of Fire in standard when their is no such thing as "Mana Burn".
I like the card, but the way I need to look at it atm requires me to play extended or legacy.

God, TOTALLY agree. Every keeps talking about how awesome Realms Uncharted is, and all I can think when I see it is how horribly photoshopped that elf looks. So far, I think all the art in this set is a disaster.

Braid of Fire can't be used to Level any creatures as you can't do it at Instant Speed. The other cards are good ideas though.

I'm so excited for RoE limited, we really haven't seen any Limited-Jank commons/uncommons.
Too expensive for sorcery speed, they killed level up.
