Worldwake may wind up being the single most irrelevant expansion since the block system came out. At least other sets that sucked had the luxury of being in blocks that sucked in general. Worldwake is wedged between two big sets, one of which looks insanely cool flavorwise.
Even before the spoilers confirmed that Worldwake was more or less a complete pile, the announcement of ROE and its flavor and scale excited me way more than anything to do with Worldwake.
I am twice as stoked over ROE than I am completely bored of WWK.
I can understand where you are coming from. I am by no means a WotC apologist, but I think they were geniuses with what they did with WWK.
The set doesnt have a ton of Spike appeal for constructed, but this set is sooooo much fun in limited. All of the colors are pretty good now, there are a ton of tricks in each color, and I havent had this much fun in limited since Ravnica block.
Combine that with all of the cool Johnny/Timmy cards they made and this set will appeal to a lot of people.
They weren't going to be able to make this set stand out compared to Zendikar and RotE if they made the typical middle small set, but they made it great in it's own right. Spike gets his limited goodness, and Johnny and Timmy get all their cards they need!
Oh, I will say that there are a lot of cards in this set which look like they'll be good in the future. Lodestone Golem, Eye of Ugin, Thada El, and a bunch of the artifacts are probably going to be good with the release of upcoming sets.

This guy, would either eat up several turns worth of mana to get a slow permanent that relies on your already have some board presence (after wasting said mana), or dies without generating any advantage.
Kinda off topic here (couldn't find the other eldrazi thing.... LAZY :))... but I was looking at my collection and realized that there was probably a precursor to a card in ROE. Ghostfire. It is colorless like all of the Eldrazi and look at the flavor text, "Only those gifted with the EYE OF Ugin, the spirit dragon, can see his firey breath. I think that the eldrazi know how to harvest unseen energy (like the land on Zendikar) and use it powerfually.
Finally, some good old-fashioned carnage. Maybe we'll get to see an Eldrazi with Nicol Bolas in a headlock? I mean they have to do something nice to show how sickeningly powerful these beings are.
I'm glad to see the ongoing tradition of subjectifying women continues.
I don't know why...but when i see i spell like this and it has a man or creature in it I just assume they are good as dead. You can see it in their eyes.
Yet, and this may be the artist's doing, whenever a woman is the subject of such cards it often looks like they are going to be violated before they die. I mean, they are often depicted in vulnerable sutuations and positions.
Spells like Terminate, Doomblade or Slaughter Pact are better in style becuase the poor critter has already been iced. These "moment before" pics are just a little too creepy for children (says a 30 year old man that plays with dudes his own age).

As an illustrator myself (tho not for magic) I can tell you, you get much more hate from an illustration where a female has been hurt than from an illustration where a female is going to/could get hurt.
So when you have to show someone rotting, exploding, hacked or burt, you use a goblin

I'm a woman and I don't car if fantastic illustration in a game full of killing or mutilating spells ans tyranous and violent creatures sometime depict a woman as a victim. We're not immune to violence or cruelty just because we have a ******.
And being violated before dying is a logical thing to expect in those situations. It's what happen in every war situation. I don't see why magical wars should be differents.
This is quite... REALISTIC thinking. But nontheless, I don't think this is necessary.
And on topic: Was Phyrexian Negator already confirmed for the Phyrexia vs. The Coalition Duel Deck? If not, the creature on the right is definately one.
We've only got one image and a tag line to go on. For all we know the portrait could just have been 'taken' on a gloomy day and the world could be populated by Pegasus's, squid-folk, and bear people who sing songs about friendship and ride rainbow rafts of chocolate.
I'm glad to see the ongoing tradition of subjectifying women continues.

Nof, while I quite agree with your logic, magical wars should be different because it's a fantasy. I don't expect everyone to have Bantian honor, but fantasy is about a separation from reality, and rape is one of the things that often gets either glossed over or omitted form fantasy because of how uncomfortable it makes people. Whether it should make people more uncomfortable than murder is another story, but I think that it's generally seen as not only a very violent attack, but also a very personal attack, whereas just killing someone can be more anonymous.
However, Morrissey - I think that it might be your own expectations that lead you to believe that the woman is going to be violated first. And I'm not saying that's a bad thing, or that you're some sort of deviant. I think that the mood that they're going for is "the worst is about to happen", and in your mind "the worst" is rape then murder. I think that's fine - it'll conjure up a different image of "the worst" for each person, and it gets its point across, generally "This spell is evilbad!"
Personally, I always think of poor Svania Trul, Wayfinder Initiate, and choose to believe that she goes down fighting.

Well, that could and probably should be true of some fantasy, but its really not appropriate for kids, and I see alot playing at prereleases and such these days, so inappropriate for Magic. That said, there are so many over-sexualized, and extremely violent images on these cards now, that I do hope they start to tone it down. Instead it seems like the ante continues to be raised each set.
She definitely has clenched teeth, but the "vampirishness" to her is, I think, the fact that the Angels of Zendikar never show their teeth nor their eyes. And she has black hair.
Regarding the "rape" discussion: I think it would be very strange to assume that an all-consuming, tentacled titan would rape any humanoid. In reality, people rape other people. People don't rape squids and then kill them.
You wouldn't have seen it; it's something that's not yet released. Shirtless male, glowing eyes, vampire tattoos, angel wings, including the banners. It's been a while, so my memory is hazy.

That image has nothing to do with RotE, it is the insert image for Duel Decks: Phyrexia vs. the Coalition. Which has nothing to do with the point the storyline is at currently.
EDIT: Also, the left is Phyrexian Negator and the right is Urza, one of the most powerful planeswalkers in the Multiverse.

Exactly. Too much hentai for them...
Now I suspect this to be more of a drain spell than a kill spell.
