First things first. Nova Blast Wurm is cool, but is screams RW not GW. Secondly. Hada Freeblade makes Mono Wite Allies quite playable. Could be a fun deck.
Well, the reason it's green is because it's so huge for its mana cost. Red doesn't really get fat this efficient.

Wowee!!! If we separate the mana costs, 2WW for the wrath ability, we are basically paying 1GG for a 7/7 beatstick!! If this does not scream power-creep, I seriously dun know wat else does!!

uh... except that the Wrath ability doesn't work unless you can keep a specific creature alive for a full turn...
This isn't power creep at all, it's another card of the same power level as Godsire - a fatty with an ability that would dominate a game except that even if you live long enough to cast it, it'll probably die before you get to use it.
I like them both.
The wurm looks kinda cute in a ramp deck.
That soldier will be awesome in the White weenie deck that runs 16 lands, it also has great synergy with Kazandu Blademaster.
I changed the thread title to be more accurate.
We have known since the orb came out that there would be 2 gold cards in the set.
This is one of them.
I wouldn't be surprised if the other wasn't a mythic legend, either.
Both cards are pretty alright though.

Very happy with both cards. I think mono W, or W/U Allies have a shot now to be competitive. The Wurm is very cool design. Everything anyone playing G/W in EDH could want. Maybe I will be buying that box after all!
Darksteel Colossus will stand on its feet against this weak worm, and slash it and trample over it.
That said Darksteel Colossus is probably the only fattie out there, that only by itself, still demands a lot of respect from everyone else.
You are right, DarkSteel can trample the wurm and kick its butt ... but it cost 11 !!! and it is not invulnerable to removals. So if I have to choose between these 2 fatties, I will choose the wurm.
The Wurm isn't a Wrath only - it's nearly unblockable...!
The Freeblade is the next powerfull uncommon white 1-drop after Elite Vanguard!
I do think it's better. This is the first WWK card to actively excite me. I think there are so many things you can do with an ally deck in constructed, and a card like this is exactly what the archetype needed.

Wurms are finally getting a chance at being green's iconic creature (Novablast is mythic)! Yeeesss!
Aside from the fact that's it's not mono G, it really doesn't mean wurms will be iconics. If we see one in M11, that's different. Right now, it'd say it tells us as much as a mythic octopus or goblin. Novablast is cool, but that has to do with it being a multicolored card, which doesn't really help with G's iconic problem.
Nova Blast Wurm is cool, but is screams RW not GW.
It seems just about right to me. If it were RW, I say it would have lower toughness (and if given haste or something would need sac at EOT). Also, change it from wurm to hellion or something else.
Novablast Wurm is interesting, but I don't see it being WG; if anything it should be either WB or RW.
Other than that, I think it's too expensive and color-intensive to see any amount of play. Sure, when it hits, it packs a wallop, but how often will clearing the board will be relevant after turn seven or so?
If there was a way to sneak this into play as late as turn four, then maybe we could be talking... Anyone up for a Sneak Attack variant?
It isn't only the wet dream of Sarkhan Vol (although he won't see play), but also of a well-timed Summoning trap and of some ramp decks. And even Spikes can't resist such a card
Sphinx is really good. Control will play it and be able to protect him just fine, hes a much better finisher then Jwar Isle and thats saying a lot considering how good he alone is. Bazzar Trader.dec now has 16 threaten effects. Thats really, really, really, really good. Really good.
so for the wurm to work...help me out here...
you enter attack step
declare attackers
all other creatures are detroyed
cant declare blockers
damage goes through?

Yep, that's pretty much the plan, except that creatures get deStroyed and can't declare blockers</nazigrammar>
Yes, two of these worms being declared as attackers at the same time would blow each other, with hilarity ensuing.

Disagree, a 7/7 for 7 is not red or white.

Sucks to see multicoloured back though. Hopefully Worldwake will be like Odyssey, with just a handful of gold cards.
