FOR FIVE MANA. It survives fallout, infest, jund charm, pyroclasm, etc. For FIVE. In bushwhacker you could pay the same for a baneslayer angel.
I cannot imagine a situation in which I would rather have this man than any of the 1-drops already in the deck not involving a game going longer than it ever should. And value when you've got 12 of your 12-15 real lands in play is NOT worth running in bushwhacker.
1. Look up what "meta" means.
2. 5 is one more than 4. Which is what the ranger costs. Do your curve.
3. Its an alternative against an opponent with heavy board clearers. Not a main deck.
4. Its mostly just good for limited, since the mana costs mostly keeps up with typical limited curves, and can be a either an early game beater at 3 or a game breaker later on.
5. At its very least, it give red aggro more stuff after shards block rotates out.
6. Its COMMON. This matters to some people.
From the other thread... I like the new ally. More mill in limited FTW!
agreed. the big thing with this card though is figuring out the right combo to run it with. guess i just need to see what the next set of allies will be. if some other good blue ones come out though i could see running a white/blue ally deck using this as one of my 2 drops
I'm definitely happy to see mysteries. It seems like it would be good in a deck that is also playing harrow and khalni heart expedition along with fetches too maybe.
Seems pretty easy to draw 3 on an opponents turn, what with fetches and all.
I really like that they made the milling Ally a common. Though triple Worldwake drafts will be rare, expect him to be the focus of a deck in that format. More importantly, he is a 2 drop common Ally in blue, which is good news for Survivalist, Ondu Cleric, and Raptor. Honestly a 1/3 for 2 with pretty much no other abilities would be fine in Zendikar.
Finally!
How many years has it been since we had playable instant speed draw?
Well, 5CC had Esper Charm, but I understand the sentiment. I still remember the days of Impulse, Brainstorm, Gifts Ungiven, Fact or Fiction, etc. Now Standard draw is Divination, Mind Spring, and Courier's Capsule (and Jace Beleren).

I'm personally not in the "meh" camp for these cards. I really like where the landfall mechanic is going (especially since it seems they'll continue it throughout the whole block. Where can they go with ROE?) and I think the new genju cycle is goign to be fu in limited. And yes, as others have mentioned, that milling ally already has a good number of friends from ZEN to make him playable even outside of triple WWK draft. If they continue allies in ROE (which they probably will), he might be a serious house alongside crab... maybe even without him.

I believe it was said that ROE is mechanically different from ZEN and WWK.
why are so many people hyping the blue card draw? if you're hyping the blue card i dont wanna know what you do to yourself at night when you think about esper charm.
i get it, blue hasnt had good insta speed card draw for quite some time, but now you are all just getting desperate :/.
i hope whatever WOTC did this time they somehow dont do it again. the lack of spoilers honestly made me want to never play magic again. seriously.... T2 is garbage and then they dont let us see new cards that can shake up the metagame? WHAT IS GOING ON HERE?
Interesting, for commons. I like the lizard, as it scales pretty well. Tuktuk grunts saw play in limited just as a solid body with haste, even outside allies, and the lizard can function in multiple capacities. Heavy investment in color though.
I never really liked land enchants, but Vastwood Zendikon does seem to be an improvement. Getting the land back is nice. Too bad you can't pull many gimmicks with putting it on an opponent's land and doing something with it :D\
Really dislike the milling ally though. 1/3 for 2 is helpful in draft of course, but the milling aspect of it seems pretty irrelevant. If you get 3 out, then yes, you have some milling going on. But without doubles, it's pretty nominal milling. As for people who like to draft lots of hedron crabs, I believe it was stated that drafts would be ZZW, so you won't be able to pick up a playset of these very easily, even though it's at a common. That being said, if you're playing the raptors, it IS an ally, and a useful one for blocking at that.
The kitesail- good if you have equipment in limited, but if you can't pick up those trusty machetes, I don't really see it getting much use. Maybe we'll see a reprint of the leonin scimitar though
As for the Mysteries of the Deep, I'm pretty amused by it. Yes, instant speed draw, no, not overpowered. It's a common. Hard to make use of, but especially in limited, if you're sitting on a turn 5 Summoner's Bane, and they don't cast a creature, you have something else to do. With all the conditional counters, it could prove rather helpful. I think it could have been printed at straight draw two instant for 3U instead of 4U with the chance of 3 cards, but that takes the fun out of non-permanent landfall
Finally, I really like the manland cycle. Will be interesting to see what abilities or p/t the others get.
If the Vastwood Zendikon is a cycle, some of the others, if they are low costed could be very good. You can put this on a fetchland and swing for a bit, until you need the mana, and then you get the fetch back, along with an additional land. The problem may be it throwing off your curve, but there is no card disadvantage.
Also I really like the Mysteries of the Deep, but who doesn't like draw at instant speed?
An instant that draws two cards, and conditionally draws three cards. Interesting.
Now all the Permission Sam types complaining about having to play during their own turn don't have to any more. Again. Unless Gaea's Herald or City of Solitude is in M11, there's going to be another blue winter once Bloodbraid Elf is no longer giving people a chance against control.

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not watching.

This wasn't exactly what Chapin was talking about when he begged for a reprint of Impulse.
This card barely qualifies as Constructed playable. With Esper Charm around, we'd have to be getting mighty desperate to play a spell like this. I think I'd rather just stuff a playset of Mind Sculptor in my deck and hope one sticks.

Have a helicopter drop you off out front. Light your cigar with a small Indonesian boy holding a black lotus. Then bust out a craw wurm deck with no sleeves. Raw dog shuffle, loose terribly, flip the table, leave in a hovercraft.
man took us a while to get to these spoilers geez.... the normal artworks looks better

Even if it's expensive, it's card draw. Fetch lands required though.
I highly doubt the lizards will see much play in Bushwacker, but crazier thing HAVE happened...
Currently playing:
M13 Draft
GGGGG Dungrove................(STANDARD)
GWGWG Maverick..................(LEGACY)

How many years has it been since we had playable instant speed draw?
Now give us a good counter and I'll be able to build my favorite deck - DRAW-GO!!!!
Thanks to Passturn for Sig
but how isnt the new blue ally amazing in limited? it stops all the 2/1 dorks that EVERYBODY is playing in force and its an ally.
and of course he's garbage in constructed.... but we all should know that :/

for some reason though, i like that 6/4 land enchantment.

Don't forget Jace!
They can still somewhat out do some cards as long as they don't neatly fit into established tribes.
Older Magic as a Board Game: Panglacial Wurm , Mill
the vampire is actually pretty sick in limited. another random 2/1 for 2 that has got the beef later.
BSkithiryx, the Blight DragonB
GAzusa, Lost but SeekingG

The closest thing to it was Auriok Glaivemaster from Darksteel, but gave First Strike instead of Flying.
