The Tanglesap is an awesome filtered fog ability. The Goblin War Paint is leagues better than Giant Strength (easier to cost AND makes 'em unaffected by summoning sickness [what can I say, I love my oldschool terminology :xd:]).
I guess I was slightly wrong about the Kamigawa association. Zendikar is shaping up to be a good set.

HR Analyst. Gamer. Activist | Fearless, and forthright | Aggro-control is a mindset. Elspeth and Jhoira rock my world.
Shieldmate: It's a nice little blocker, essentially a White Horned Turtle Can't attack, but why would you want to? Could there be a control ally build out there with the blue draw cards Ally, and the black discard and life loss ones?
Vampire: Wow. Suicide black indeed. If you see swamps this fall, chump block to keep yourself over 10, or this guy becomes very hard to deal with.
Heartstabber: Very expensive. This thing is 7 mana kicked. I wouldn't expect to kick this in limited. Definite skill-tester. But I've played worse things than a 2/2 flyer for 4 in limited.
Tanglesap: Nice Fog variant, Giant Solifuge or Yavimaya Ants would have loved this one. I can't think of any creatures that are greatly benefited by this in standard though. In limited, it's just a fog. Sometimes that's good, sometimes that's bad.
War Paint: We've seen it before, but enchantments giving haste just seem weird to me, because you have to play the creature and this at the same time for it to matter. But it's a good cost, and doesn't prevent blocking like Maniacal Rage did. Giant Strength is now finally obselete.
Im not sure if the Vampire is good enough for constructed. The fact he doesnt do anything until 10 life seems a bit underpowered especially compared to lacerator.
Level 31 Invoker
Pride is a powerful tool; it makes us fight harder when we are weak as does it cut us down while we are at our prime.

And Goyf doesn't do anything until some cards are in the GY(no, I'm not comparing this card to goyf, goyf is better, much better), and Scute Mob is only good after you get 5 lands.
guul draz vampire is a good card, but both of my favourite vampire arts in the set are on one drops, and that's really not cool
heartstabber mosquito is way more expensive than I thought it would be, wow
Mankindi shieldmate is alright. not one of my favourite allies
trample fog is awesome for the weirdness factor. possibly even worth building a deck for. I had a trample deck once, which wasn't that great, but we will see
goblin war paint art is weird

damn that vamp is a great 1 drop, why are vamps so damn good, and the soliders arent too impressive. i get it WOTC youre pushing vmaps, but that doesnt mean all other races have to be screwed
There is a lot more soldiers than vampires and just about all of the vampires were unplayable with the exception of Skeletal Vampire and in the early days Sengir Vampire. Same thing happened in Lorwyn with faeries and kithkin..
Also seems incredibly weak overall as do many cards in this set. Perhaps it's the flip side to kicker; cards with kicker are generally useful whenever. Cards that are only ever useful early have Talara's Battalion syndrome. Cards only useful late (like this one) are absolutely awful to see in your opening hand, and there are

GENERATION 7: The first time you see this, copy and paste it into your sig and add 1 to the generation. social experiment.
I think the fear is what really makes him a decent topdeck
he'll swing right through the enemy defenders usually, which is pretty awesome.
I don't think hes as good as the carnovampire (emo lacerator) for a 1-drop-slot, and if you're tough on cards, take the lacerator, but he looks like he'll be competent enough to run. I mean he looks really nice, but getting your opponent to below 10 HP might not happen until turn 6/7 or whatnot. And heck, serra avenger wasn't a gamebreaking card, and shes rather similar

Well it actually not that bad in the early game as it still can attack your opponent and with all the options vampires have it quite easy to bring them down to 10 or less in no time. Especially with Vampire Nocturnus and BloodWitch.
I'm calling it right now- worst rare in the set. Even good limited players will find better bombs at common and uncommon no sweat. Worst. Episode. Ever.
I really do predict this to be our worst rare in set award winner. I'd be happier opening a jar of eyeballs, so I think anything worse is highly unlikely. This card wont just have zero constructed potential, but not be significantly better than a mass of ghouls in a draft.
The mosquito is pretty nice in limited. 2/2 flying for 4 is not too bad, but it is very good late game as it also lets you take out a creature.
The vampire is impressive. It might seem underwhelming at first, but playing this late means you get an evasive 3/2 that puts your opponent at a 4 turn clock at most. Not really sure about its constructed applications, but this is quite solid in limited.
The green one is quite weird. Sometimes it may be a one-sided fog, but may also benefit your opponent.

Heartstabber is a mediocre flier. It's not like black gets many fliers. It also has the ability to off the opponent's bomb if you haven't dropped it yet. Versatility is always good even if it costs a bit.
1) 2/2 Fliers for WW that can give another of your creatures flying if you have another 1W available.
2) 2/2 for 2W that "sleeps" target creature when it ETBF.
3) 2/3 Flier for 1W that lets you bounce a permanent you control when it ETBF. This can give you another use of the aforementioned sleeper-soldier, or feed a nice little landfall 0/1 kitty by bouncing a land for you to reuse.
With some of the cheap equipment coming out...
4) 1/1 for W that gets double strike when equipped (I think there's a +2/+1 equipment somewhere).
5) 2/2 for WW that can attach said equipment for free when it ETBF.
6) a lord to tie the Kor and Equipment all together...2/2 for WW that gives all these new Kor men +2/+2 for each equipment attached to him.
Moving away from just the Kor...
7) 1/1 soldier ally for WW that gets +1/+1 counter when it or other allies ETBF, and has first strike and Vigilance.
And if you're willing to play a non- soldier in that deck, he is still a Kor...
8) 2/2 for WWW, Pro black and exiles a black perm when it ETBF.
Not to mention since it's most likely a mono white deck, white gains some nice support cards as well.
Plus...M10 has some nice soldiers, Crusade, Harm's Way. And we still have Path as well.
So yeah...if you think all those cards suck, and arn't synergistic, and won't apply some hard pressure to an opponent, even vampires. Then yeah, I guess I can see where you're coming from when you say "soldiers suck hard in Zen".
Yeah protection from arthropod & protection from the letter H creatures don't die to it either
Point is that, even though it's priced at 7 cc to shriekmaw your opponent & get a mosquito, and it doesn't kill stuff at its lower cost (4cc for a 2/2 flyer, while shriekmaw has a kill abliity at its lower cost, which is far, far more important), the mosquito at least kills a significantly wider variety of stuff than shriekmaw does.
Tanglesap is a lot more interesting than a lot of the cards spoiled so far. It's the first green fog that feels more green than white.
With Tanglesap, a Terra Stomper can destroy a Baneslayer Angel with impunity. Lifelink? How about dealing no damage?
Pretty cool if you ask me. A fog that can be turned into something offensive.
